well guys. Its been a while since ive posted on NICO and ive been on the drift forums and decided it was better to ask on these forums about tech stuff. Sooo I had an S13 SR and was happy until i had a run in with a deer...so...i pulled the S13 SR and sold it to a buddy with an S12 and am now looking to do the S15 SR20DET swap (i just want something that's a bit unique, dont need terrible amounts of power to drift or drive). I've learned so far that most of the pain is in the wiring and getting the speedometer to read. And since i had HUD before and it never worked, i dont mind myself lacking a speedometer, and i probably could get a GPS or something to take care of that. Anywho, I was wondering, since i dont care about the speedo, in order to get the S15 transmission to work in the S13, do i still need to get the differential housing? (iirc the only reason i have to swap it is because that's where the speed sensor hooks up)

and if anyone knows...is there a length difference between the S15 and S13 SR20 transmissions? and if so, who would i go to to get a driveshaft for this application if im gonna stick with the S13 differential housing?

Any tips on the swap itself?

im definitely gonna take my 255lph fuel pump from my old shell and install it on my car and probably get a new Nismo t-stat with alum radiator and all. I'll probably end up using the stock clutch fan the electricity gnomes dont screw me over when i need fans. I do have a front mount ready to go, but i need to get pipes, and i was wondering what pipe kit is the easiest to fit on the S13 w/ S15 SR20DET.

Anyone have any links/suggestions about the pipe coming off of the turbo since its angled rather than straight up like the t25's?

Any tips about wiring up the S15 SR?

and do the S13 rocker arm stoppers need any modification to be installed on the S15 SR?

Thanks mucho guys!

There is no length difference between the s13, s14, and s15 transmission. They crammed the 6th speed in there.

And rocker arms will bolt up the same since they fit all s13, s14, and s15 engines. The only thing you will have to do is grind a slot in the s15 valve cover for the RAS to clear. S14 valve cover is the same.

The best thing for the speedometer is to get a dakota digital speedometer converter. Not sure the proper name but its made by dakota digital.

As far as intercooler, you should be able to use everything you have on your s13 front mount except for the cold pipe. I have a s14/s15 cold pipe for sale if you need it. Its a greddy cold pipe but should work with any intercooler brand. If you don't already have a front mount, then you should buy a s14/s15 one. May need to modify some mounting points but thats easy.

And as far as the angle for the turbo. You can buy clocking adaptors. I actually have some for sale. I can get you a pic. Just send me an email at [email protected] if interested in either the coldpipe or clocking adaptors.

THANKS MUCHO!

and in regards to the turbo outlet pipe...

vs

the outlet pipe on the S13 t25 is pointed straight up while the S15 t28 is pointed about 45 degrees...and i was wondering if there was a smoother, cleaner way about sorting out the hot side.

Thanks mucho bro!

I acutally used a 45* coupler off of the stock ic piping and just cut my "t25 hotpipe* straight to mate into it. It is the cheapest solution by far and has never given any trouble!

Wow that long coupler like that looks so janky. Do it right. Buy clocking adaptors.

I have some clocking adaptors for sale. They are circuit sport ones. Email me at [email protected] if interested.

it's not so much the clocking of the turbo itself...the s13 t25 leading into the hotpipe is straight up and the s15 t28 to hot pipe is angled 45 degrees towards the front of the car.

if you look at the first picture...thats the S13 hot pipe and where it is located in regards to the s15 turbo.

you don't need adaptor to clock the turbo. The link I posted is for clocking adaptor to clock the inlet and hotpipe of the turbo.

Hell yeah, clocking adapters for the turbo hot outlet is the cleanest way imo.

since you don't have s13 intercooler piping already you could use an s14 hotpipe that has the angle in the pipe.

garagelu do you have any pics of what needs to be ground down on the s14 valve cover for the rocker arm stoppers?

I used the older version of the dakota SGI-5 (signal interface)It takes the speed sensor signal and manipulates it to match up with other devices. In my case my S14 speedometer. However the Speed sensor for the S15 is in the differential so that wont work in your application unless you're proposing installing a speed sensor somewhere else.

I had messed with this 15 transformation quite a bit, the flywheel is different the starter is different flywheel bolts are different, the speedometer sensor is in the deferential not the transmission to driveshaft is different that the whole Lotta work and a whole lot a complication for not much gain though I have to admit it is a really nice shifting transmission but clutch assembly weighs a ton and is not readily available and this country I've been wondering what I'm going to do when I finally made a clutch cry

yeah, the dual mass flywheel is HEAVY. i took mine right off and installed an exedy hyper. the exedy hyper with flywheel is lighter than the stock flywheel alone.

The S15 SR into S13 is such a nice swap. The close ration transmission, the Helical diff and a bit of power work so well. Dual mass flywheel is a bit heavy, but so smooth to drive. You don;t even feel the clutch engage...

We have done a bunch of these. Wiring is not tough either, just needs to be done well, so the VTC works.

BTW, the transmission is completely different from S13 ad S14. The S15 trans is skinnier and i dont' think has a single interchangeable part to the S13 or S14. Once thing it lacks as well, as said above, is the speed sensor.

I would recommend getting the s15 diff as well with the swap.

As far as the frequency modulator goes, the latest Dakota DIgital SG 5 works well. But, i am sure there are many other units that can do the trick.

We can also do the wiring very easily. Link:http://wiringspecialties.com/s15srins1324.html

Hope this help.
