I have a 03 G35 and when I'm driving usually on the highway the engine will cut out and then kick back in and the slip light and other lights flicker on and off. It doesn't always happen sometimes i can drive the car for a week or two and nothing happens. Other times I can be on the highway and the lights on the dash will flicker but nothing happens.

My mechanic and the ones at the dealership don't know whats causing it and say they won't know until the car acutally breaks down. Has this happened to anyone.

How old is your battery?

I would check the connections, the battery cables and the battery ground cable to make sure there is no corrosion.

If nothing shows up there have the alternator and charging system checked.

Good luck

Yes, this happened to me years ago with my 84 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z POS.For me, it was using cheap gas. It was clogging my injectors. I dumped some injector cleaner in the tank, started buying better gas, and the problem went away. Perhaps you could try this. And, maybe a new fuel filter??

Regardless, check back in and let us know what the problem was!

And, Welcome to Nico!!

Or he/she could pet the car and whispers to the car "I love you" ..

Hey Rich

I can understand bad or water in the gas causing rough engine performance but the op was having an issue with flickering lights leading me to believe the problem was electrical related.

You can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe federal EPA regulations passed years ago required the removal of single bottom metal storage tanks and required the installation of double bottom plastic storage gasoline tanks. Not only did this prevent leakage but also condensation from forming in the storage tanks.

Here in NJ I occasionally I see the state inspectors taking lab samples from gasoline stations gasoline storage tanks.

I personally have never experienced a bad tank of gas. Any large volume gasoline station probably would never experience that problem.

It did happen along the Garden State Parkway a year or two ago from a bad delivery but its still a very rare occurrance.

Of course I can't speak for other area's

Yep, you could be right, but I got some bad gas just a few weeks ago.Sent my son after a couple gallons for the riding mower. Ran like crap!!! Shutting off, not wanting to keep running. I even replaced the fuel filter and tuned it. Still ran like crap. Ended up getting some new gas from the station I normally go to and diluted the tank with it. Gradually started running better. Now that it's on the good gas, running fine again.

Do they mix moonshine with the gas down there?

It sounds like your traction control is kicking in and cutting throttle back. Hence the drop in engine rpm and the slip light simultaneously.

It could be a YAW sensor, or any of the sensors for each wheel. GL finding out which.

How are your tires? Are you feeling them slip at all? Is in in the rain that it happens most?

I thought that it could be the traction too. My mechanic even told me to turn off the traction control if it acted up and when i did I still had the same problem.

I've thought everything to ask what the problem was from the fuel filter to even the charging system. Nissan says that nothing is coming up on they're computers and the service guy said that it might be the throttle getting ready to go but they won't know until what ever it is goes.

The funny thing is that this problem didn't start until the day after i got the car back after getting it serviced for one of the callipers in the back seizing

What other lights comming on and off when you have trouble? What else did they do to your car? Is it a coupe or sedan? Did they rotate your tires? Do you have same size of tires all around? What did they do to fix your brake?

Haven't had the tires rotated. I'm thinking its the fuel filter on due to the fact that i'm bad for driving the car on low f\uel until i have to get gas. Another thing I was wondering was that when i had the calipers done in the back only one side was done because at the time i was strapped for cash and the mechanic said only doing the one side was ok because the other side was ok.

I had the cam sensors changed the guys at Nissan said more than likely that was what it was that caused the stalling

Yes, this has happened to me, but never while in motion. It happened once soon after I started the G and the 2nd time while I was sitting at a light. Both times my A/C compressor was running I believe. It happened in May and then again in July maybe. Hasn't happened since. I have a post out there somewhere on this, probably on the Engine sub forum.

If it's the same kind of deal, my engine basically stalled but was able to keep running, then the lights come on and everything seems fine.
