my roommate works in houston but brought his bike up last weekend, then left it here. i couldnt sleep last night and i got tired of it sitting in the garage taunting me, so i got up around 2am and really rode it for the first time. today i got bored and took it out on some long open backroads and experimented with leaning. i love it so much im worried that driving my cars will never be enough again. i already started looking for my own bike.

Good for you for not being a p**** and just jumping on and teching yourself how to ride. I have ridden a little bit, not much, mostly on KZ900s . My buddy just let me take out his GSX-R1000. Now I've got the itch too. I know how you feel.

Awesome! riding bikes is such a different experience from driving cars...its' freedom of the open road...don't lean too much, lol...

if you can find a frame for an 03-04 cbr 600rr, i can sell you the rest of the bike...my frame is cracked from "stunting" lol...but seriously, i came down to hard once and it snapped...so i'm parting it out but if your really interested...get a frame and i can put the rest of it together for you.

Riding can be a to of fun, but remember

- Wear Gear (if nothing else it makes it easy for them to pick up your pieces)- Cagers (car drivers) never see you and then they think it's your fault they didn't.- Road conditions make a huge difference in traction- You will drop a bike, just be prepared to fall and slide (this is where gear helps)- Buy old used and small. Then a few months later, you can sell it easily and buy the beast you want.

Bikes are a blast, but there is a real chance you can die every time you get on one .

awareness is your friend.

I need money to get a bike...and decide what to get...I'm thinking a 650 on/off might be fun

I started riding with a coworker a few weeks ago. I don't think I can look at cars the same way ever again, it's just not the same anymore. We rode out to PA (about an hour each way) and it was the most fun (legal type of fun) I had in a while. I also just ordered a helmet and gloves to use for the MSF course. It's very addicting.

If you only have 3 hours of riding experience, you need to take a few steps back before taking that bike out any more. For 1- you need to take the MSF classes. They should be offered somewhere close to you.2- at LEAST get your temps. if you take the said classes, you can take the test at the end of them and get your endorsement.3- Get insured, and don't skimp on it either.4- Ride with other experienced riders, and only during the daytime (if by yourself) for at least the rest of this riding season. There are way too many dangerous road conditions to list that you need to be able to recognize and react to in the DAYLIGHT let alone trying to see them with just a headlight or a crappy road lighting.5- Don't take anyone else for a ride. Everything changes with a passenger.

If you've done some of the above steps- my apologies for beating a dead horse, however you'd rather be safe than sorry. Trust me.I've had enough close calls that if I hadn't been an experienced rider, I would be dead. And no, I'm not exaggerating that statement one bit. It's worth taking the time to learn and be safe. You don't want to be stuck in a wheelchair of lose a limb if you can prevent it.

The motorcycle bug has bit me as well. For the past couple of weeks all I have been thinking about is getting a bike. Yesterday I went to go test drive Honda's new 600RR with ABS. It has to be the most comfortable sports bike I've ever ridden. Been thinking about getting me either a used 600RR or a used Triumph 675 Daytona. Kinda leaning towards the Triumph, that thing looks and sounds orgasmic.

Dude, sounds like you're not in over your head...if you can take the thing out at 2 am and come home alive without a giant piece of scratchy metal and plastic, then I say you're doing just fine. As long as you respect the machine for what it is and what it can do, and you're only stupid in a relatively controlled environment, you'll be just fine.

I took the safety course and I wear a helmet, but not for the obvious reasons:-I was tired of getting bugs/grit in my mouth-the safety course gave me a discount on my insurance

I also have full leathers, but I only wear them when we go on real rides, not s***ty interstates where we have to deal with idiot cagers (I like that; I think I'm going to start using it!)

Have too much fun man, and keep the shiny side up.

d!ck, dont ride over your head....just take it easy for a while, I know it easy to become comfortable quickly, but with your experience you should just take her easy...no patronizing you, just take my advise...Im a riding instructor and have raced for years...I actually dont even ride on the street anymore...

Wear your helmet and dont be crazy on that thing...have fun buddy, youve opened a whole can of worms now...

Riding bikes is like a horrid meth addiction, without the bad teeth

again, have a blast and be respectful of the machine

The thing I don't like about Kawis is you can't let maintenance slide at all; they're like Ducs. This is what happens when you're hard on a zx6r and you forget to change the fork seals:

Personally, I'd recommend a CBR600 F4i. Fuel injected, 600cc, and very tame under 7k rpm, not to mention it's a fairly forgiving bike for a 600. I learned to ride on an '01 F4i... Man, I miss that bike. I've ridden once since I sold the thing, and that wasn't the best experience of my life... I assumed because the owner had just gotten done riding for 20 minutes the rear was warmed up, so I rode it hard. Turns out the tire was ice cold and came right out when I dipped it down for a turn. Ground down a slider, the end of the brake lever, and the can. Of course, I didn't have my gear with me (well, I used his helmet at least. And I made d**m sure it didn't touch the ground when I landed. I didn't feel like replacing a $700 Arai) at the time (wasn't expecting to ride given the fact that I didn't have a bike), and as it turns out, a hoodie's sleeves will roll up on you as you're sliding along the ground at 35mph (side note: bikes make really cool sparks when they lowside).

Basically, this is why you wear a good leather jacket:

I now have a dent in my elbow and one wrist, where even some of the fat was taken off. My arm still has rash scar (and probably always will), and that was only at 35mph. If you've never experienced road rash (serious rash. Not the "I fell off my bicycle at 2mph and got a boo-boo" rash), it's fun. Burns like hell, especially when you scrub it to get the asphalt out of it, leaks plasma like a sieve, and looks like bacon when it finally starts to scab over 2 weeks after you get it. The good side? Chicks dig scars and if you act like it doesn't hurt (which it f**king does lol), you look like a bada**

After you go down, which at some point you will, you definitely respect the bike a lot more. I've been run off the road by semi's because they didn't see me.....now that wakes you up when you're going to work. Take it slow and respect the bike. When you get comfortable thats when you get in trouble. Always respect the bike and remember how easy you can be skidding down the road when you ride. But with all that said, they're a blast and you're making me want to go out and take mine for a spin.

ive wanted to get a bike for a long time as well. I just keep thinking about what could happen. Had a family friend die a few months ago from motorcycle crash. I might be more apt to get a bike if healthcare was free LOL. I dont want to get all screwed up and then have to pay for it for the rest of my natural born life.
