I love my M45. Two easy kills so far, and I was not even pushing it! Letting the automatic transmission do all the shifting.

1. BMW 740iL. Guy had been cutting me off down a two lane slope. So we pulled up next to each other at a red light. When it changed green, we both went for it. In about 100 yds, I was four or five car lengths ahead of him and I wasn't even flooring it! He tucked in behind me at the next light! :D

2. Lexus LS430. Stopped at a light (same place where I also got a SL 500 in my Q45 some time back). Light changes ... we went for it. No contest! I was a car length ahead of him in 50 or 60 feet! He backed off quickly at that point.

Dusted a 350Z during a freeway entrance. Was entering a freeway on a long sweeping entrance ramp in my usual spirited fashion, and noticed the Z tucked in close behind. Had clear traffic to enter the freeway and nailed it from a rolling 60. Z was in hot pursuit, but fading badly behind the M. Unfortunately, had the spousal unit in the right seat and got the evil eye at about 90. I backed off and the Z closed the gap and screamed by. It was over before I had a chance to completely humiliate him. But he knew, and he knew that I knew.

I use the manual mode mostly for everday driving. Downshifting for corners, and preventing upshifts in heavy traffic. When the right foot is fully extended, the manual mode is actually pretty useless. Under full throttle, the trans will upshift when it's damn good and ready, no matter if you're in manual or auto mode. The good news is that it seems to be pretty capable at making smart upshift decisions when the hammer's down. Not having to watch the tach and precisely time shifts during hard acceleration runs allows me to devote more of my faculties to situational awareness. It's a good trade.

Okay, folks, here is my latest dose of M45 kills - albeit by a lot less than I have done to others! I love this car! :D

Today, I was stopped at a red light next to a screaming red Ferrari 308 GTB (I think that was the model number). We started out from the light about at almost the same time. He got a bit of a jump on me till about 50mph (or so ... I wasn't exactly concentrating on my speedometer) and he was about half a car length ahead. But when we hit about 80mph, I was a bit more than a car length ahead of him. Then we both had to brake for the next light ... he turned right at the light :chicken !

Don't forget to post some of these stories to the Infiniti Speeding Stories thread. One of the most out standing threads on NICO, IMHO.

Sounds like some good kills. Get some mean exhaust on that M. I'd love to hear that.

To be honest, I was a bit surprised too! I suspect that at the top end, he is probably way faster - the Ferrari 308 should be able to do 175mph without difficulty, I would think. But in the 45 to 120mph acceleration range, the M45 (and my older Q's too) seem to be just amazingly quick to gain speed. :)

Ah, but that is the joy of the Q and the M! Super stealthy power without fuss and noise. :D

It's definitely the newest incarnation of the 90-93 Q45.

Just curious, whats the performance numbers of the Q45 next to the M45?

I saw this one ad for the M45 in a mag once, it said a smart muscle car, or something like that. I loved it, mostly cuz it's true.

Q45Zero to 60 mph 6.0

From what I could find, it's about 150 lbs heavier, same motor.

Sorry for the long delayed response. I was out of commission for a little while ... another December hospital surgical visit :( and I missed this question.

From a standing start, the M45 easily gets to 60mph faster than both the 91Q and 95Q I used to have. Very strong acceleration! To get the best results (particularly if you are trying to beat another fast car), the VDC needs to be switched off. Else the launches seem a bit more tentative.

From 60mph to 120mph, the M45 still accelerates faster than either Q I had, But the differences are a bit less obvious - particularly when compared the 91Q (see caveat below).

Above 120mph, I cannot comment as I have not yet taken my M above that speed. My 91Q felt very stable at high speeds (driving 145mph for long distances was easy), but I never felt that comfortable in my 95Q, so the fastest I ever drove it was about 135mph.

Some day soon, I plan to drive to Los Angeles and find a quiet stretch of I-5 to see how the M45 feels at very high speeds. :D

(Caveat: I should add that I sold my 91 Q in 1998, so my memory on its performance is a bit rusty.)

Z, hope it wasn't anything serious, and with HIPAA, I won't ask :D.

Just hope all's well, and tell us about the M-runs.

Cant tell you how many times this has happened to me. Ruin perfectly good cloverleaf ramps to the interstate and highspeed chases.

Oh, way minor this time compared to last year. My friends (and wife) are all teasing me about my yearly maintenance requirements! :DQuote »Just hope all's well, and tell us about the M-runs. [/quote]

Will do so. Had fun with an RX-7 last night. I will write it up shortly.

Okay, this morning, I satisfied myself that the M45 is also way faster from 60 to 120 mph than my older Q45s. I guess I had not yet properly floored it earlier. :D

Starting out from a metering light, this "Mountaineer" SUV (with an AWD V8 sign on the back) deliberately sped up from my left and then cut me off on a narrowing on-ramp. I wasn't trying to race but that irritated me to no end. So I backed off behind him and once we both merged (at about 50 mph), I swung around to the middle lane and punched it. The acceleration was a blast! :D The car dropped down to third and took off hard. I was at 110mph in a heartbeat (or two :D )! (The guy in the SUV was also accelerating , but I was by him before I hit 70mph.)

I had a bit of fun with an RX-7 last night. Not the last of that generation, but one version earlier (late eighties, early nineties).

Starting from a light, up Silver Creek Valley Road (winding into the Evergreen Hills east of 101). I went up the slope and reached 90+mph on the curves. In my Q45, on that same section of road, I had just touched 85+ mph before I felt too uncomfortable to go any faster (with new tires!)

The RX-7 started out behind me, so I gave him the lane after I went by the car on the right and let him come up even to me before I punched it. By the time I ht 60mph, he was many car lengths behind me.

Looking at your pic of that sweet rig [even tho its bowtie ...] reminded me of a video clip I just watched of a Ford F350 Turbo Diesel Crew Cab ... lifted about 10" with at leat 35's on it .. tires.

Ever seen a 7500 lb+ Diesel truck run 11.9's in the 1/4 ??? Un freakin beleiveable!!!
