Project Bus Parking....

Just got back from picking up a new S13 shell for the fresh start to my drift car build. A lot of you have probably seen my other drift car (Michelle) build on here (zerothread?id=358846). With this project I'm planning on building the car up from the ground better than the current chassis and swapping everything over.

Currently the shell has:-6pt cage w/o door bars-stripped sound deadening-50mm rear overfenders-30mm front fenders-bushinged rack-cut and folded fenders

For now the project is on hold until I can find a storage facility in Austin; had to leave the shell back on the family land in Houston for now. Updates to come....

So...Project Bus Parking? Yeah...last night some friends and I were at an IHOP at 1am and there was no parking for the truck and trailer except for a bus parking spot. So a buddy decides to get some duct tape (originally wanted to spray paint it on) and put 'BUS' on the side of the car. At the time it was hilarious and I dubbed the project "Bus Parking"...good times, now for the pics!

Bus Parking

The duct taping

Interior

No windshield...

Clean bay

Fenders

It kinda fit

said it had cut and folded fenders, so when the car is lowered and has wheels with a sick offset with the overfenders put on. the tire won't rub the original fenders

yep, its got stock suspension on it right now, it just looks high because a couple inches were hacked out of the rear fenders for the overfenders

That rollcage is gonna need to be cut out, you won't pass tech at any real drift events with the cage welded up on the lower portion of the back seat, it needs to be on the floor. I just went through this hassle yesterday at an event where we were not allowed to run due to improper cage mounting. You might wanna check before you get o far into it so you can change it now while it's easy to fix and hasn't been painted. We had already completely painted and rust proofed our interior and then found out I have to redo my cage, kinda sucks........

Car looks good though, I like the rear fender wells, I don't have the guts to do that to my car, wish I did,,,,,,,,,,,,,

which portion of the back seat and why?

I was told the cage should be spec, but I definitely kept my mind open that it might not be and would have to change it. Meh, I'll deal with it when I can. I just need to know what exactly is wrong and where it should be mounted...

In my car I just want rear roll support in the event my car ever flips and a harness bar.

Can some one in paint draw lines and explain a good cage from a death trap?

Maybe explain why certain bends are useless or are not recommended.

The mounting points should be okay for SCCA and NASA. The mounting plates, however, look kind of shoddy.

Hmm, looks good, but what I find interesting is that I don't see a lot of consensus on where to weld in the cage. Example: a friend of mine who competes on a professional drifting level has the cage welded in on the seat section similar to where mine is... here is the photo of it: http://i10.photobucket.com/alb...2.jpg

And yes, this car will get a good going over and the cage looked at more closely once I can get the current space/time situation handled.

As I mentioned in the 1st post I picked this up to build it right from the ground. My RB S13 chassis is a good car, but it started life with ABS and Hicas (which both have been deleted) and has 280,000 miles on the chassis. Instead of taking the RB out to stitch weld and paint the bay, replacing the abs hardlines, buy a full cage, beef it up, strip and repaint I decided I'd pick up this shell - build it right - and swap everything from the black S13 to this shell once it is all prepped.

Originally I just wanted the 4 overfenders from this guy for $300 a few months ago...but he recently brought down the price of the whole car (cage, overfenders, rack and all) to $500. I bought this shell before my turbo blew and just had a chance to go pick it up a few days ago.

That's an incredibly clean engine bay. Good luck with the build, you're one of the very few females on this board that gets their hands dirty.

I never post in the 240 forum anymore... gave up years ago.

Yep. Mine's identical to that, trix, and I've been told it's plenty fine. I read the SCCA rules and they mention that it just needs to be six points in the passenger compartment. Nothing specific about where inside the compartment. Check it:

Yeah, I didn't figure it would matter where it was mounted as long as the tubing, etc was up to spec. Who was it at what event that told you to move your cage mount points Steve?
