Well I have a 06 M45 and have not modded the Arm rest DVD player to play DVDs while the car is moving...as of yet . But I tried to find other uses for it but I have not found anything. I've been trying to find music cds on a DVD disc to play in that drive but have been really unsuccessfull.

What do you guys use that armrest dvd drive for?

Right now the drive is a complete waste.

Do you know where I can find Music on a DVD format?

Easy - it will play conventional "concert" DVD's of which there are probably well over 1000 to choose from. Pick one with a "DTS" soundtrack if you want better sound quality. You can watch the video when the car is stopped and the music will keep playing when you start to drive.

Now to really see what it can do, you want to buy a "DVD Audio" or simply "DVD-A". Do some searches on ebay or your local music store. These are getting hard to find but there are still some good deals out there.

You can also buy some DVD authoring software and create your own DVD's using a bunch of MP3's but I can't for the life of me see why someone would want to scroll through 1000 MP3's one a time. The CD changer in the dash does a much better job of that if you want to burn some discs.

I have no idea what your musical taste is, but I'm certain you can find some good concert DVD's or DVD-A's to suit you. Two I would recommend for starters are the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" on DVD (DTS) and Steely Dan Gaucho on DVD-A. Both are stellar and will show you what the stereo in this car is really capable of.

Enjoy !

For the best sound you need to listen to DVD-A discs. The concert DVD's will play and are in 5.1 surround, but they are usually mixed with the music in the front channels and the crowd & ambient sounds in the rear. DVD-A discs are studio recordings mixed in 5.1 surround with instruments & vocals in the rear. The player will also play CD's mixed in 5.1 surround which are listed as DTS 5.1 Music Disc's. I don't believe thet SACD or Super Audio CD's will play in the player. I haven't tried one yet so I can't be sure. It's hard to find DVD-A or 5.1 DTS CD's in the retail music stores. Your best bet is on line. I have bought several DVD-A discs on ebay and Amazon.com. The number of titles that are available is limited and most are out of print, so be prepared to pay $25 & up. Hotel California, if you can find it, goes for $75 or more. I have bought several disc's in the 4 months I've had my M-35, and my favorite by far is Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. The sound is absolutely amazing.
