Wow, never heard of a LM7.I acually had to research what it was all about!Odd choice of engines but it is diffrent and I love that!

I couldn't find any suplimental info off the internet so I am guessing this is the first S chassis LM7 swap on the internet.

Make sure to post every detail and tons of PICTURES! BEST OF LUCK sileighty_stev0n

tons of pictures will be posted, but its nowhere near the first one. it's a very popular "budget" swap.

the LM7 in the vortec 5.3l out of newer chevy trucks. It's a member of the LSx family & pretty much an underbored LS1 - except w/ an iron block & a LOT cheaper than an ls1.In a 240 you have to use ls1 accessories, intake, fuel rail, etc.

Well you sir have just lost you "+1 for originality".

I tried Google and NICO and couldn't find a S1x LM7 swap. But I thought the this whole time a LSx swap was a budget swap Now to find out the LM7 is a budget LSx swap! Wow good stuff.

When updateing your thread:Are you going to keep editing your first post? This way the whole project can be viewed at one glance?

the ls1's average rating is approx. 350 crank hp. super chevy dynoed a stock 5.3 last month and it made 340 crank horse and 370 lb-ft of torque.

wikipedia rates the lq4 at +5 hp and +35 tq over the lm7. so i guess not ideally the budget swap since a 6.0 pullout goes for nearly double what a 5.3 goes for.

the 5.3 was rated at liek 295hp, the LQ was rated at like 350 hp,a dn supposedly with the ls ehads the LQ makes mroe like 450

if you want real budget keep the stock motor and put a fatty turbo on it

and the LQ still goes for a fraction of what the LS goes for, they're all still pushrod sbc's to me

only the lq9 was rated at 350, the lq4 (the more abundant motor) was a lot less. and you're right the 5.3 was rated at 295 - i just put where super chevy dynoed a stock one at 340. But in my opinion a 5.3 and t56 for the same price you'd pay for a bare lq (no accessories, harness, ecu, trans) is by far the budget swap, ya know? If i had been willing to spend the extra money i would've gone lq.

yeah, as far as heads go, they say 6.0/L92 heads is a GREAT combo.

you're right about budget/turbo - there's a fairmont w/ a 5.3 & chinese ebay turbo completely budget built running 9's.

Motor is looking awesome. I live in Nashville and would love to come up and help you sometime with this, as I hope to be getting started on mine within the next few months. I will be doing a LM7 with a 4l60e because I havent found a T56 less than a grand.. Where did you get your motor from? Do they have anymore at that price? LOL

the motor i got over in somerset about an hour and a half away. He could probably get another motor for cheap. as far as a transmission, there is another ls240 guy in town that has a 4l60e he will sell for probably really cheap. shoot me an email [email protected] i'm down in nashville alot to visit friends (used to work down there).

i've got the crossmember notched & the new mounts waiting for my bellhousing to get here so i can line it all up and weld them on.

the fuel system is now done & complete. I got my new CXRacing twin pass radiator in today, as well as a new walbro pump, & alternator.

Trying to find a used copy of hp tuners or efi live somewhere seems to be the most difficult part.

I'll have some new pics up soon. lost my internet so i'm at the local public library right now.

gonna run the original c5 vette manifolds for now. probably make a custom set later on.actually 5.0 mustang headers are the exact same dimensions, so i might modify a set of longtubes since they can be had for cheap.

The build is looking good. I don't remember how many time we took my engine in and out but we had the radiator support out so it was a little easier. Hang in there and get it done! I want to see it finished.

It was great talking to you in Nashville and I am glad you enjoyed the ride. I did the calculation when I got home and we lost the sunroof trim somewhere around 120mph LOL. Let me know if you need any help.

Yeah mine was the same, no support and was test ran with the rad support held in by zip ties of coarse
