Ok this is my write up On how to install rear wheel bearings.

Difficulty- lowTime- 1-3 hoursTools- metric wrenches, sockets, impact gun, and pressParts- rear wheel bearings

1. first you must take off the wheels.2. Now remove the caliper and then slide off the rotor.3. remove the cotter pin on the hub and the lock collar then with a impact remove the 36mm nut on the shaft.4. there are 4 bolts on the rear of the hub. rotate the axles so that you can remove them.5. once these are removed, grab the spindle and shake it loose off the splines.6. the tuff part is pressing the bearings off the spindle. I used a hydralic press to do it. the only pain was that the inside race of the bearing wouldnt come off so I had to cut it off.7. now press it all back together. make sure it is all the way to the stop of the spindle.8. reinstall it back to the hub, those 4 bolts, not forgetting to clean off splines.9. Now the spindle nut must be torqued down to at least 206 ftlbs and no more than 276 ftlbs. after that is down add the lock collar and install a NEW cotter pin.10. reinstall rotor and caliper and wheel.

This is a pretty decent basic write up. I think the majority of people should just bring the spindle to a machine shop to have the bearings pressed. It usually costs all of $15, and it helps avoid many headaches. Ive seen some pretty nasty business caused by kids trying to press bearings in/out. Most people dont have access to a shop press, and without one there is really no good way to get the bearings in properly. Good write up though.

the fronts from what I understand are sold as a set, meaning spindle and bearing. so yes I would think it would be easier.

And I totally agree, if you dont have a press DONT attempt. I dont even know where I would begin to take that off without one. it seems the guy before me did and it definetly showed, plus the wheel bearings he installed already failed. I think he didnt torque the spindle nut.

If a moderator thinks this is sufficient for a custom title, I would like...Nico's Pig Farmer...thanks

I dont use a press for removing the old bearing, it takes to long, I just knock the bearing out with my air hammer. Putting things back together is where the press comes in handy.

Yeah I haven't actually seen the part that they sell only a generic photo on autozone.com. I actually don't even know how many people supply the part, it doesn't show up on courtesyparts.com

With 204,000 miles on my S14, Ive got OE front bearings. Im guessing they dont go bad unless something else is involved (curb).

the bearing could fall apart and when it does it is possible for the hub to slam onto the spindle and snap it....this is very very worst case

Well I have 300zx drum brakes also and we can't get it to come off? Any other bolts besides those four? Any 300zx owners have to do this?? I'm kind of stuck.

i know this thread is super old but i was wondering if anybody knows where i could buy just the rear wheel bearings and not have to buy the wheel bearing already in the housing. I already have the housing i just need a new rear bearing but i cant find anyone who will sell just the bearing without the whole housing.

and rear s13 4 lug bearings cant be pressed into rear s14 5 lug hubs can they?

VERY HELPFUL WRITE UP!!

i went to the local store and got a 36MM socket and that was all i needed! only problem i had was getting the hub to break loose and come off..

DEF Recommend a Air Chisel for aftermarket wheel bearings..the stock one came off NO PROB but the aftermarket took all night w a mini sledge hammer..

FYI to remove the hub pound it so that the whole assembly moves so the old bolt holes dont line up then it comes off
