I already replaced the starter cause it didn't start the first time so I took it off, bench tested it and it was bad. So now it still does not start, I went to put in the new starter that I know is good. But now with the new one in it still does not start. The plugs are all done right, lights everything else turns on, stays on. I have a red top optima trunk mounted with 2 gauge wire for positive and ground. I only switched out the speedo sensor on the transmission, I don't know if I need the others off the KA or if the SR's will do; I had to use the KA plugs for the sr sensors. Fuel pump primes and the starter relay is clicking when I turn the key yet no starter start. Lights never dim at all, I put in brand new plugs with proper gap. It's a redtop into a 92 S13. Can't think of anything else... If there is anymore info needed let me know. All the grounds are solid, no connections or wires are loose. And yes, I already tried searching...Thanks for any and all help.

^^^^^if those two things are present, then I would say you need to check the wiring. follow it from the relay back to the starter, at that point I would even consider a replacement, just to be sure because its easy.

It's not trying to turn over because it can't.

I have 3 different starters for it now. And I bench tested all 3 at work and they all failed for some reason. They all have enough power (as in amperage is sufficient) but the starter gear that spins the flywheel does not get ejected.I am getting fuel cause I can hear my fuel pump prime and I put in a new Z32 fuel filter. And no, I never saw any red eye on the ECU. I probably will replace the starter relay, but I can hear the starter relay clicking everytime I go to try to start the thing, so I don't think the relay can really be the issue.

I am considering using my KA starter and put the guts of it into the SR one, has anyone ever done this before? I would be using the starter off the KADE... I used the search button and found a couple but the pictures that are matched to the words are confusing a little bit. I am not sure which parts I am switching out exactly. Oh well, might as well and just take the thing apart and start tinkering.

If anyone might have any ideas as to why 3 starters would all bench test bad let me know, because the 2 I bought were supposedly good on the other red tops they came off of. Plus they also failed when I had them on the car AND when I used a push button on them. The push button made the little starter gear turn, but never go out to connect with the flywheel.

ARGH! This is the only thing keeping me from having a running car again...

Put the car in neutral and try to turn the engine from the crank pulley with a breaker bar to make sure it isn't seized. As for the starters the selinoid sounds bad. Did you do a auto- manual conversion? If you really want to see if it runs just try clutch kicking it.

Well I will try to turn the crank with a breaker bar. But the thing is is that the car was already converted from auto to manual when I bought the car 3 1/2 years ago. And I can't clutch kick it cause the rear driver caliper constantly locking up on me so I can roll it out my garage, and my driveway would be an uphill push. And I don't think the solenoids are bad but I will try switching them out cause when I hook up the starter to the bench tester I by passed the solenoid all together and the gear did not shoot out. But I will try it again, it could always work a second time.

you may have a short in your fuse boxes and accessory harness.

IS THE ECU SPITTING CODES?

It really sounds like you have a wiring/fuse/relay issue. Also, you need to let someone else test the starters in order to get a second opinion.

You also may need to find another local SR guy to go through your wiring making sure that your wiring job matches his. YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR WIRING!!!! I can't stress that enough. With another modified harness you can make sure everything is matched up and that will eliminate a lot of confusion as you troubleshoot.

check all of your fuses and relays. Check your fuel lines and make sure they are in the right place. if you motor is not turning over you should have fuel in the line that is NOT connected to your FPR.

It just seems like you have not covered some of your bases the simple way. Getting someone with a working sr into and s13 would greatly decrease troubleshooting difficulty.
