Hey everyone. I am just curious to see how much of a demand there is out there from NICO to work on photos in Photoshop. These could be photo shoots of your Nissan/Infiniti, vacation pics, pics of the kids, very old pictures that need to be restored, whatever. Being in these forums for a couple of years, I've seen a lot of pictures that could use simple touch ups to look 10x better. To have this stuff done professionally can cost $45/hour (and up probably). I used to do this for a living for a few years and have worked on some award-winning shots (mainly because of the shot, not me, I just helped). People who have seen my projects or those that I have done projects for are encouraging me to get back into it. I would be willing to do it for more than half of the $45/hour for those here at NICO, and that would even depend on quality of the pic itself and the effort needed, so it could be even less, if there is enough interest. I've done random projects for some in the G forums and you can also see some of my own photo shoots of my G in there as well. I am not looking to do complex cutting stuff out, placing rims to see how they look on this, or any of that sort of thing, however I can cut things out to make the picture look better, that's not a problem. I'd just have to see the photo first really. Mainly this is all about color correction, lighting correction, various effects such as color and/or lighting...anything to make it look good. Even if you think a photo looks good as is, I can usually make it look even better.

So if this is something some of you may be interested in, just post up and say so. If need be, I can post up examples. Thanks.

Haha, es posible.

Boo State. How does that chant go? Not the GO GREEN, GO WHITE chant, but the CAN'T READ, CAN'T WRITE!!!

GO BLUE! HAIL!

Its ok, I've dealt with State my whole life, my dad's side of the family is State, my mom's side of the family is Go Blue all the way. I evidently grew up on the right side of the family.

Wouldn't it be a good idea for you to like... post a few examples of your work, or a link to your portfolio so people know you actually worth while?

Not to sound too rude, but I can't see many people jumping in line for the "Who wants to pay me to photoshop" thread with out some good examples of why its worth the money....?

I know you said you worked on a few award winning pieces... But you don't even say what awards they have won, or what the pieces were?

Most the time people are here can get even what you call "complex cutting stuff out, placing rims to see how they look on this, or any of that sort of thing" for free from other members... And with GIMP they can adjust their own levels for free.

Again, not trying to be rude or put you down... just that you may find more interest if you offer more credibility, and show them why your skills are worth the fee.

I said I could post examples, I have no problem with that. I just wanted to see if there was an initial interest before I start spamming the board with photos. If someone was really interested, all they had to do was ask, "Hey, I'm interested, can I see some examples?" Pretty simple and harmless.

Quote »I know you said you worked on a few award winning pieces... But you don't even say what awards they have won, or what the pieces were?
Couldn't tell ya what awards they were. None of them were like big national awards, more local/regional awards. If shots we worked on won awards, the customer usually just came back and said I won such and such award and brought us more stuff to do.

Quote »Most the time people are here can get even what you call "complex cutting stuff out, placing rims to see how they look on this, or any of that sort of thing" for free from other members... And with GIMP they can adjust their own levels for free.
And I said I wasn't going to do rims because I know people do it for free and its simply not something I want to do. Also, maybe my idea of complex cutting stuff out is different from yours. I can change backgrounds and what not, but when I used to do this customers would want something cut out that was nearly impossible. Adjusting levels can do a little bit to a photo to look better and its a very broad change, its the little things that make them look much better.

Quote »Again, not trying to be rude or put you down
No worries.

Examples to come. Check back later.

Alright here are some examples of a recent shoot I did with my G. Top pic is the original, bottom Photoshop.

I'll post up some different types of stuff as I find them and upload them (most are on CDs). My sig is also from that shoot with a couple effects applied on each other.

Mmmk, you've proven you can do cutesy effects and Auto Levels and Auto Color and maybe you darkened it a tad to reduce the glare. That glare detracted from the photo (when the outer area is dark and the inner area is bright, eyes automatically go to the bright, so the first thing that's noticed is the glare) so lets take 2 seconds to dial that down and why not highlight what makes the car look good--the reflection. Oh, and tell your friend to step away so he/she isn't in the picture. Photography 101.

Yea, look what you started haha.

Possibly. Its all in the eyes of the beholder. If "photoshop god" wanted that glare, so be it, that may have been what he was going after. With that glare, it wasn't a good photo to begin with, at least from a professional point of view. The real trick of Photoshop is trying to interpret what the photographer had in mind and if you weren't there, you have to recreate from experience of seeing tons of pictures.

Oh and yes, people do work in Photoshop for a living. You'd be amazed at how much people are willing to pay and how many of them are out there.

Here's a sample of a quite simple restoration.

I've done WWII pictures that had writing all over them, people circled and what not, torn and/or ripped, all to come out barely noticeable, not even noticeable if you didn't know what was wrong beforehand.

If anyone's interested, feel free to email me with any questions or to bounce ideas off of.

A simple and overlooked error in this picture is that you forgot to do what's in the windows, or at least it would be something I would do to make the background uniform and just have the car. And you still have glare from the brake light bleeding out.

Photoshop isn't just about applying effects.

*edit* I decided to go ahead and fix the bleeding for you and correct for some over- and underexposure. Not exactly sure which effect you've got goin on there so I didn't do the windows. Why are your pictures so dark anyway?

The glare is on purpose in both pictures! I did some layer blending especially to make it that way.

btw I'm still not impressed. You did some weird stuff to my photoshops (im guessing you messed with the image curve) and now the glare in the first one is not gradual anymore. looks all fake

btw, "shadow/highlights" doesn't make a picture better, it actually makes it worse IMO for the red g35.

Hey smockers83, I've got a nice little challenge for you. The hardest thing to do in photoshop is changing cars color realistically from black to white or silver and from white to silver or black.

if you can change this white car to silver then you are a worthy to earn that 45$ plus amount you talked about earlier

here's my attempt (didn't bother to clean some of the edges ):

Why? What glare was there in the 2nd one? The bleeding of the brake into the car? Why would you do that on purpose, people try and give their life to have glare taken out.

Quote »btw I'm still not impressed. You did some weird stuff to my photoshops (im guessing you messed with the image curve) and now the glare in the first one is not gradual anymore. looks all fake
It was a quick fix, hence the 2 seconds, I wasn't necessarily going for quality. I'm not looking to spend a whole lot of time on something like this that's not high-res and something I think is a bad photo for the sake of a contest. You did layer blending to make it that way? From your original, its the same thing, nothing different to it. From a professional stand point, you don't want that glare, it really does detract from the rest of the photo. And the 2nd photo, your blue spruce didn't even look like a blue spruce, you had too much green goin on.

Quote »btw, "shadow/highlights" doesn't make a picture better, it actually makes it worse IMO for the red g35.
All a matter of preference. I apparently like my pictures bright and vivid while you like yours dark. The 1st one is actually very close to the real life scene (bad exposure), the 2nd one is exaggerated, but on personal preference because lightening it up will start wash it out. No two people are the same, so you have to tweak it to the person's liking, hence why I never claimed victory when someone said it was possible.

you guys are really just competing over blur effects and hue saturation levels and whatnot. maybe if you two introduced some other mediums for us to look at, then we can see who knows more about photoshop, other than just restoration and level adjustments. just imo, im not bashing anything, you two are both good, just broaden the playing field.
