Hi, this is my first post, but I have been lurking for a while.I know my title is a little confusing...sorry about that.Anyway, I have a 2007 M35 which I bought in January. I like the car for the most part, but there are a few items that really bug me.The first thing is that I can't seem to figure out how to set the Autodim on the rearview mirror to stay off when I turn the car on. I can turn it off manually, but it always turns back on when I start the car.The other thing is that I can't figure out how to set the locks to auto lock when driving. I thought I read that the M35 doesn't have this feature, but I just can't believe a $45k car doesn't have this option. Every car I've ever owned has this. thanks for your help.

Yep, no auto locking on the M. I have an '08 and looked thru the manual and asked the same question here.

They have auto up on the power windows but no auto door locking feature.

Go figure!

None of the Q45s or M series have auto lock. My wife's old crappy 2000 Ford Focus wagon had them, as does her new '08 Honda Civic EX-L coupe.WTG, Infiniti.

Also, the Civic coupe has lighted controls on the steering wheel, while my '05 Q45 does not.Another WTG for Infiniti.

I cannot imagine why or how these features common on among the lowest price vehicles on the market are not on the best luxury-performance cars available.

Maybe Nissian/Infiniti brass don't drive their own cars and aren't ware of these glaring shortcomings. Or maybe they just don't care.

Well, that's not what I wanted to hear. Not that this would have been a deal breaker, but I wish I had known that before I bought it...and I can't believe I never noticed, because I researched this car for months before I got it. I just assumed it had automatic locks. Oh well...So what about the rear view mirror? Does anyone know a way to permanently turn it off?

1) Uhh.. the lock button is pretty ergonomically placed from the driver's seat... doesn't really take all that effort.. not to sound like an ***.

2) My mirror autodim feature stopped it's auto-on after I turned it off while the car was running.

I guess this is one of those personal decision things.

I do not like auto-locking doors, so as far as I am concerned, I am glad that my car does not have them!

Don't be too discouraged: there are aftermarket solutions. Nissan may not have included automatic locks, but you can still add them. Here's one our Altima guys discovered a short while back: http://www.kptechnologies.com (it's yet another stupid flash website, so you'll have to navigate to it since I can't link straight there). It's even pretty inexpensive.

As for the mirror dimming, annoying as it is, that's not a Nissan deal. The mirrors are Homelink brand and it just so happens that Nissan, among many other auto manufacturers, offer them as a factory option.Actually, come to think of it, the OEM factory auto-dimming mirror in my 13-year-old Q45 was smarter than the new Homelink ones. Mine only goes into auto-dim mode if I have my headlights turned on. Have you checked if your Homelink one does that? I don't think the one in my dad's '04 Maxima does.

Agreed. I've driven GMs with this feature, and the first thing I did was disable it. I see a LOT of people complaining about Nissans and Infinitis not having auto-locking doors, though, so I definitely wonder why it hasn't happened yet.

Auto lock is good for those invovled in roll over or side impact wrecks. Most people can't operate a turn signal properly, so how can they be expected to operate door locks properly?

Then there is the personal security issues.

Thanks for the replies...and yes, I realize that the lock button is close, but I bought the car for my wife, so it's really a safety thing with me. I may be a little overly cautious, but I just feel better knowing she's a little safer...and having automatic door locks can't hurt...especially in this city.

Oh, I understand why people want their cars locked while driving. I usually lock mine, too. I just don't want the car to do it for me. When I want them locked, I'll lock them.

My Maxima was mildly insane and the locks would do strange things. Usually they'd end up locking when the driver's door closed. It annoyed the crap out of me (and my passengers, since driver door controls all other locks). My dad's Trailblazer does it, too, and it drove me nuts.

The Trailblazer does have an automatic lock feature I really like, though:If the doors ARE locked, when you put the car in park (and maybe take out the key, I don't remember for sure) they will UNLOCK automatically. It's really convenient.

Why is this a good thing? Some assumption that this will keep doors from opening? Not sure I understand... if someone hits me on side would think that would keep the door closed and it rolling over not sure why having a door lock on would make much difference.

(I've always had a concern about what happens if the doors are locked when in a wreck and they cannot be opened from outside).

Keeping the door closed if rolling in an accident is probably safer ... too easy for your body parts to get caught between door and frame in these situations. Could get severed body parts (or worse ) if you are partially thrown out of the car through an open door.

At least, that is how the argument goes! The locked door makes it a bit tougher for the door to open up during such an accident.

FWIW, I am not sure what is the correct thing to do. I tend to lock the doors with the button once I start moving, but I am simply do not know what is the best answer ... except to say "Don't have an accident and don't roll the car!"
