« Re: Murano Price Paid / Lease Rate Thread (Timmbo)

Hello all,

Just joined NICOclub, great site.

I'm looking at a Murano '09 SL Lease. Actually visited the dealer inquiring about the current S AWD with convenience package lease special on Nissan's website. It is $2,670 down + TTL, with $329 + Tax for 39 months. It expires Feb 2.

The dealer did not have an S model with AWD and convenience package, so they wanted to get me into an SL. First offer was high at $4895 down with $499/month. I said no thanks.

But they were not about to let me walk out just yet. Bottom line offer is this:

- Murano SL FWD (base MSRP = $28,420)
- Platinum Graphite / Black
- Splash Guards
- Premium Package
- Floor Mats (3 piece)
- Cargo Area Protector
- Roof Rack Cross bars
- Tow Package
- Destination Charge

Total MSRP $31,420

Sales Price $28,700
Residual $16,024 (51%)
Miles yr/ 12,000
Term 39 months
All Scheduled Maintenance during the term of the lease
Down Payment $2,225, (includes 1st month's payment)
Out the door fees (ttl, etc) = $0, (included in Down Payment)

Monthly Payment $369 + Tax ($395 total, 7% sales in FL)

I could not get a straight answer on the money factor. I was told the interest rate was about 3.98%, which is equivalent to a .001658 MF. But using the above, I calculate it to .00208, which is more like 5%.

If you back out the 1st months payment, the down payment would be in the range for ttl, so I see it basically as a zero, or little down deal (couple hundred or so).

Does this sound like a good deal?

Thanks

Welcome to NICOclub yadrovm! Glad to have you as a new member of the Murano Forum!

That sounds like a fantastic deal! It is amazing that you can get a Murano for under $350/month. Nice work, post some pics of the new ride when you get it!

Hmmm. Well I keep hearing that the residual on the LE and the SL is different so the 49% and 54% appears to be fairly static no matter who I've contacted. It's a 36 mos. lease and the $550 includes tax. MSRP is $38070 and the sale price of $35070 is pretty much the lowest I've seen on any forum or been quoted by any relatively local dealer. Perhaps it's different in other parts of the country but so far, Seattle, WA dealers are not hurting as much as maybe others are...yet. If someone has a better deal somewhere on an LE lease, I'd love to hear it. Everything but the DVD and nav. I'm going to be pulling the trigger on or around 2.5.09 when my other lease is up. thanks!

Interesting, I still think there is more room to play on that. Did you check what your payment would be if you went to 39 months? I have an LE, with everything, and I have a payment of about $600/month for 60 months, and that is a purchase, not a lease. They should be able to knock of another $1000 on the unit you are looking at. Maybe the dealers aren't hurting as bad, just seems like there is more room to play. Good luck and let us know how things pan out!

Hello Shocker, Welcome and congrats on Murano!

I've also worked with Gardena Nissan but haven't made the deal yet. Looking at the same model, did you get it in tinted broze\beige?

Is the 37,161 out to door price?
Also you said after rebate, what rebate did you get?

Thanks!

I paid $37,161 plus tax and lic which is $500 over dealer invoice after rebate. The factory rebate is $500 and can be combined with the special rate of 2.9%, I would have gone for the 0% but that is over, and no I did not get the tinted bronze color, I got the platinum. I was in and out of there within 45 minutes, the most painless car buying experience I've ever had. Also, the manager Damian helped me out a lot with the financing, my equifax score is 688 (which is what NMAC uses) and he got the bank to give me a tier 1 approval instead of tier 2 which would have been 4.9%. Very happy with the straight forward service!

I don't think Nissan ever had 0% on the Murano. I know they have it on the the '08 Armada and '08 Sentra, but I don't think it was offered on the Murano.

Hey everyone..just signed up...accidentally found this site and so glad i did!! I bought a 2009 Brilliant Silver/Black Murano SL 2WD on Dec 6, 2008 and i absolutely LOVE this car. It has...

- Premium Package
- Dual Panel Moonroof
- Technology Package
- Leather Package
- Splash Guards
- Roof Rack Cross Bars

MSRP was 35,270 and i paid 32,270...after reading all these posts i see that i probably could have done better but i was happy with the deal. Car was bought at North Point Nissan in West Little Rock, AR....just in case anyone on here is from this area. They were great to deal with.

The only thing i got free was a tank of gas but everyone gets that so...no biggie. In just over a month i have put 3500 miles on it and its just awesome. Wish i had got the NAV but oh well.

You probably could have gotten it for a little less just like me, but at some point you have to understand that these salespeople deserve to make a little money because they have to put up with people like us buyers every day who go into the dealership asking for the world. I'm actually happy to see someone got a similar deal to mine and is ok with it and doesn't feel cheated. The Murano is a great car and is worth the money...

Ended up finding one about 2 1/2 hrs from Seattle. Tinted Bronze, Black int. LE. No Nav or DVD. MSRP was $38635. Owner's wife had been driving so got them down to $33,500. Residual is 49%. With taxes my payments should be around $539 (lease). This was the only Tinted bronze, black that I found in a 3-4 hr drive of us so very happy. Pick it up on Saturday. Will post the final #s then.

Hi Everyone,

First post here.

just picked up a Brilliant Silver Murano this morning. Took advantage of the 2.9% for 60 months and the $500 rebate.

The car has the Leather and Performance packages.

Got it for $30,514 (after rebate) but before tax. Also had $1,174.52 on my old lease absorbed at this price. Nissan gave a $0 early term fee in order for the deal to get done.

Had a 2006 Murano that was coming off the lease, so I grabbed this one.

Haven't purchased a car in many years, and being that I plan on owning this car for quite some time I actually also bought the extended warranty - got 6 years/75,000 miles for $982. From one of the other forums here I checked out some of the internet sites for the extended warranties and they came nowhere close to this. I was pleasantly surprised.

Hope I didn't get hosed on this deal.

What is the deal on residuals on a lease? Are the dealers able to tweak it? The one I'm probably going to go with is telling me the LE residual is 49% on car that already has 4800 miles on it (owner's wife). Yet other dealership with another LE is saying 54%. Is this beyond their control or where they make some $$?

The dealer can't change the residual, it's set by the bank, the other dealer is giving you a different model if the residual is 5% different, probably the SL AWD.

When I first looked at the LE (when it first came out) there were no great deals and the "fundamentals of the economy" were still strong... It was way too pricey.

Then in April, I went to look at another dealership and worked with a kid who was new. He priced out an LE for me loaded and when I got to the F&I part the deal was for an SL not an LE. I was livid and about to walk and tell all of my bad experience. The Sales Manager came in and tried to convince me it was the same car as I wanted - not! I told him if I did the deal, everytime I looked at the wheels, it would remind me of his slimey manner. No, no, he said, it was an honest mistake... I said prove it.

So I drove out with a fully loaded LE, having financed a total of 32K with a 4K trade for my 04 Pathfinder (on which I owed 9K). I told him on the way out that he wanted to give me a rear cargo protector - he smiled and said I guess I do...

I never saw a sales guy sweat as much as he did... I consider it a part of the deal!

Hello all,

Here is an update of my post on 1/13. I had taken the silver/black SL, premium pkg, cloth seats Murano home with a deal worked out but not signed (47 mins after closing time!). The original deal was at $395/month, 39 months, 12,000 miles/yr. After reading some of the leasing posts here on NICOClub, I felt I could have got the leather package as well for the same price range. I went to another dealer I had contacted before and got a deal for a similar SL with but with the leather pkg for the same price. I went to return the cloth seat SL and told them I was not happy and should be able to do better. Bottom line, I was able to get a different SL from a sister store, with the leather package I wanted, plus the technology package, at $388/month, ($7 less!).

Needless to say, I am much happier with this deal.

Here are the details:

- Murano SL FWD (base MSRP = $29,230)
- Brilliant Silver / Black
- Splash Guards
- Premium Package
- Floor Mats (3 piece)
- Leather Package
- Technology Package
- Destination Charge

Total MSRP with options: $34,755

Sales Price $30,274
Acquisition Fee $595
Basic Maintenance $461
(All Scheduled Maintenance during the term of the lease)
Residual $17,019 (51%)

Term 39 months
Miles yr/ 12,000

Down Payment $2,893
Out the door fees (ttl, etc) = $0, (included in Down Payment)

Money Factor 0.00145
Monthly Payment $363 + Tax ($388 total, 7% sales in FL)

2009 Murano LE AWD (black exterior, beige leather interior)
Navigation, Dual Panel Moonroof, Splash Guards, 3 Carpeted Floor Mat Set, Illuminated Door Sills, Black Roof Rail Crossbars, Cargo Area Protector, Wheel locks (dealer threw in the locks)

154 miles on it at the time of purchase

MSRP quoted by dealer: $41,060.00

E-Price initially offered by dealer: $37,228.00 (before tax, title, etc.)

Total Selling Price Including Accessories (before sales tax, title, all other fees, before the $500 rebate & before my $300 trade-in): $35,220.36

[Note: As you can see, I was able to knock $2,000 off the E-Price initially being offered]

Total Drive-out Purchase Price I Paid (including sales tax, title, all other fees, after the $500 rebate & after my $300 trade-in): $37,199.52

[Note: Keep in mind the number of options included in this deal]

Additionals the Dealer Threw In: First oil change free

Additional comments:

I purchased this LE on February 5, 2009 at Team Nissan of Marietta (Georgia). From January 21 - February 4, I emailed 15 Atlanta area Nissan dealerships and didn't settle on Team Marietta until all of the 14 other dealerships had dropped out of the bidding, leaving me with Team Marietta as the only one still standing (I got treated very decently by Team, I might add).

I believe I got an excellent price for this FULLY-LOADED and brand new LE (seven Murano options total). The fact all the other dealers finally dropped out when we got down to the nitty gritty was pretty telling.

By the way, my extremely cheap $300.00 trade-in vehicle was a 1995 Acura Integra LS with one foot in the grave (believe me, when it came to this trade-in, I couldn't have done any better than I did). So the trade-in factor was basically non-existent.

I purchased it on 2/5/09. My down payment was $12,290.65... leaving me with a balance of $24,908.87. My monthly payments are $400.00 (4.9% APR for 72 months). The 4.9% APR option for 72 months was one of two low-financing specials that were part of the 2009 Murano customer incentives for February (the other was 2.9% APR for 60 months). It's a rare combo of incentives: low financing PLUS a $500 rebate. Don't let any dealers try to tell you that you can't get both of those customer incentives for the 2009 Murano this month. You can get BOTH low financing and the rebate during this month of February (this was a January combo of Murano incentives that was carried over into February).

What I did was contact 15 Atlanta area Nissan dealerships by email only. Initially, I resisted all their efforts to bait me into calling them or visiting them and kept all my communications to emails only... until I got some solid numbers from them (their asking price and their drive-out price, along with a breakdown of ALL their fees, taxes, etc.). I also asked each of them to give me the VIN number of the vehicle they claimed to have in their lot... what I found was that several dealerships were claiming to have the very same vehicle in their lot (what they planned to do was a dealer purchase or dealer trade-out to get the vehicle in question over to their lot).

I pitted the dealerships against each other and forced them to bid for my business. This had the net effect of bringing down the price quotes while adding up more optional equipment for the vehicle.

Once I finally boiled things down to four dealerships that were in serious competition for my business (after the other 11 had dropped out), I made my first phone calls to them and paid my first visits to their dealerships. Any sooner than that and it would have been a waste of time and effort.

Cheers

Thanks for your advice. I've had so many dealers tell me to come in before they would give me pricing. I keep telling them that this is n ot the purpose of internet sales, I want to make the deal and come in just to sign the papers.

Can you tell me how you checked the VIN numbers and whether the dealer had that car on their lot? Thanks so much!

When you get one dealer to give you pricing (and price breakdowns) via email, you use that as leverage with the other dealers, telling all of them that so-and-so dealer was willing to give you that information (this should prompt them to do the same). Be honest and tell them you are in touch with X-amount of area dealerships by email (in my case, I was in touch with 15 area dealerships and I let all of them know that). Then they will know that they are going to have to work to earn your business.

Put your foot down and be firm with them: that you are not calling a single one of them or going in to see a single one of them until you have narrowed your list of dealerships down to the ones who are in your numbers range. Let them know you have not yet called or seen one single dealership yet (then they'll know the playing field is level, all are being treated the same, and that therefore they've still got a shot with you). Basically what you're saying to them is: I've already decided which vehicle I want and which options I want at a minimum... now all I'm doing is selecting my dealership... and the dealership I go with will obviously be the one who gives me the best drive-out price for the kind of vehicle I have my eyes on. Tell them that. Be completely upfront and honest with them.

Whenever I got a VIN from a dealer, I simply did a GOOGLE search on that number. All you have to do is put the 17-digit number into the GOOGLE search window. If the vehicle is being advertised online at a dealership then it will come up immediately (you're likely to get more than one GOOGLE result, in fact). So you'll be able to check over the information concerning the vehicle itself and which dealership it's really located at. Also, you should get a Carmax result from your GOOGLE search that should also verify the make and model, etc.

You want to avoid problems like some dealer switching you (either accidentally or intentionally) to an SL when what you're talking about is an LE. Knowing the VIN number will help keep things on the straight and narrow. The only time they won't have the VIN is if they haven't ordered the vehicle yet from groundstock.

When I did this, I learned that several area dealerships were offering me various price quotes for the same exact vehicle that was located at a local dealership lot. Nothing wrong with that as long as they didn't lie to me by saying it was, at that moment, at their lot when it really wasn't. If dealers want to try to get a car from another dealer's lot, by way of a dealer trade-in or dealer purchase or whatever, and then sell it to you at a lower price than what the dealer who actually has the car is willing to sell it to you for, that's perfectly fine. Just make sure you know what's really going on concerning where that vehicle is really located and what the dealership is planning to do to get you a better price. Don't be afraid to ask them why they can offer you a lower price for the same vehicle than the home dealer.

Knowledge is power. You want as much information as you can get. Get the information. Then make a great deal by pitting the dealerships against each other to bid you the best price you can get for the vehicle you want.

So much easier to just make an appointment, pay $500 over invoice, and move on with life. I can't believe the things some of you go through to buy a car.
