Thought I would start a new topic on the grill mesh since it got lost in my Hood Deflector thread seen here: zerothread/297888

Anyway, here is how the lower grill mesh turned out. I like the look. It is subtle and adds protection from rocks and debris hitting the AC condenser.

looks good. I want to do the same but take out the black plastic thing in there. Where did you get the mesh from and how did you attach it?

The mesh is a galvanized coated steel mesh available from Home Depot as a gutter protection mesh. It is quite strong and not flimsy as aluminum mesh can be. Available on eBay here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem It is attached with black mini zip ties in a similar fashion as the upper grill that I wrote up in the previous thread.

Mesh is $1.69 for a 6" X 36" piece at HD which fits perfect for the bottom with minimal trimming. Zipties are $2 -$5 pack.

Thanks for the idea of using the zip ties. I had planned on putting something for protection behind the grill but hadn't figured out a satisfactory way to secure it.

I had a full sheet of aluminum mesh left from a project here at home so I took a pair of tin snips to it and put the mesh on my grill, top and bottom, tonight. You are right. The bottom is really quite easy to do while the top grill is off. Just slip the longer piece in there and hook it on; no dissassembly required.

+1 to you my friend. Tastefully done. Finally someone who has done an inexpensive mod that did not turn out looking like dog ****. No offense to any others...
