small update.

here's my car in the new space

currently working on the upper door hinge patches. what a bitch...
left=original, middle=paper templates, right=roughly cut & bent

working on the driver's side first. after some trimming, fits like a gloovvvve

what it looks like without the patch (for comparison):

stay tuned

Good to see you got some inspiration from the meet it looks like lol.

Nice job, I pretty much suck at metal fab right now... but considering my lack of fab tools or experience I guess I shouldn't be concerned.

quite a project you've got going on there.

Look forward to seeing the finished product.

Are you leaving the factory turbo on the car initially, or doing some mods to the RB before you put it in?

i will be leaving the engine stock for a while. only things i will be replacing/upgrading for now are the normal swap-maintenance parts: timing belt/water pump/spark plugs/etc.

anyways, i finished the driver's side door hinge patches. just have to drill the holes for the bolts to go through. i didn't think it would come out as good as it did:

i will be working on the passenger's side in the next few days when i get a chance.

This... without a doubt.... is the most incredible restoration I've seen.
Do you have any idea the kind of inspiration you've given me to do all I can to keep my 240 going?

First thing I'm thinking of is the rust on the support rails.

SIR, I SALUTE YOU. (and give thumbs up)

thanks d00d, i appreciate it. i love being able to inspire others.

as for updates, idk when that is going to happen because my mom got in a really bad car accident 2 weeks ago so i've been focusing all of my time on being with her.

anyways, before that i had just started working on the frame rail pieces.
so be patient and i will update when i get back into it.

Amazing job!!!

I am actually doing similar type of restoration myself, mine rusted in exactly the same spots. So far I have fixed the drivers side strut tower bottom, both strut tower top plates, both rocker panels(reinforced them with 2x2 16 gauage channels on the inside), fixed driver side rail at the front, fixed rails at the back under the trunk, fixed drivers floor. and currently working on the driver side door hinge mount just like yours.
There is actually another piece underneith the top patch, but I think its ok, cause that thick piece inside where the door bolts go is structural. What gauage are you using for the patch? I am using 22 for the inside and planning to use 18 for the outside patch.
It is great to see someone doing the same type of restoration job.

yeah i know what you're talking about. there are 2 layers there because that's where the a-pillar and that bottom panel meet up so they overlap (over the other structural piece where the hinge bolts go). i found it to be pretty much the same thickness of metal to just throw on a single 16 gauge patch instead of 2 layers of thinner metal again (don't want to run the risk of them rusting out in between them again).

i got the (r33) crossmember seperately from jhot after i got the rb. and as far as being done soon/by the next philly meet, to be honest probably not (see one of my previous posts).

you guys going to d1 tomorrow? i'm gonna try and get there (it's about 20 mins from my house).
