Your build is inspiring to continue to push through the rust and junk i find on my build. You have any pics of the new sections of frame rails you welded in?Thanks Nick

this thread is down right amazing. this is exactly what i want to do to a s13. tear it down fix everything, start rebuilding it then have fun w/ it. you are doing an amazing job at everything. is anybody helping you with this? i know you said youve done it all by yourself but i didnt know if your dad or someone else helped ya out alot. this is especially sweet because you are doing everything correctly. Where are you doing it all? in your garage?

thanks man. glad to be inspiring i actually haven't got to replacing those pieces of frame rails yet. will definitely post pics when i do (as usual). | Quote, originally posted by sldewyz » | | this thread is down right amazing. this is exactly what i want to do to a s13. tear it down fix everything, start rebuilding it then have fun w/ it. you are doing an amazing job at everything. is anybody helping you with this? i know you said youve done it all by yourself but i didnt know if your dad or someone else helped ya out alot. this is especially sweet because you are doing everything correctly. thanks so far everything up to this point has been done only by myself. my dad helped me out with the dolly and loaning me some of his tools every once in a while, but all the car related work has only been done by me. and yes, it all goes down in my garage. | Quote, originally posted by S13_love » | | that is some true dedication right there, well anyways im about to get an s13 240, so can anyone tell me should i be expecting some major rust problems, cause i heard thats what 240's were known to have |
depends on where you live, how the previous owner(s) took care of the car, etc. imo, look over the car really good before you make any decisions, especially underneath. if some pieces of the suspension are rusty and the actual chassis is good, i would still get it. those kinds of parts can be easily replaced. but cutting/welding on the chassis is a lot harder obviously. just do some looking around for the right one and be patient.

honestly i don't know. i hope to have all the rust gone by the end of the month/beginning of october. once i get over that hump, it will be a lot easier for everything else to get done.

bandwidth got reset today. i made some more photobucket accounts and updated my older posts with new links so that i don't go over anymore alright so here are some updates.
got the bottom quarter panel piece welded up. i tried my best not to warp it, but it still warped a little. not that big of a deal though since that area will require a little bit of bodywork anyways.

how's my welding now?
can't really tell that well from this pic, but rear bumper fitment is like perfectly aligned.
ready to blast the interior.

blasted and treated with metal prep acid.

remember these areas?

BAM!

and this guy:

patches cut out and trimmed down, prepped, and ready to be welded up:

did i forget to mention i got some new parts? picked up an authentic gp sports g-sonic type r rear valance.

AND... i got my latest nissan order

z32 2+2 e-brake cables
fog light kit. came with everything but the switch and directions :/

speaking of switches...
cigarette lighter assembly, door strikers, hood bumpers
hood hinges, transmission shifter boot
all new lock cylinders. before anyone asks, yeah they are all different and each come with a different set of keys. ALL of the packaged sets were discontinued, and this was the only way to get new ones. i'm gonna have to get them all repinned to one key to make everything easier.
picked up this jdm tyte lighted ignition key ring from ebay

z32 e-brake shoe set, front/rear caliper hardware
front s14 dust shields
new door handles (the dull area is just grease from lubing that spring)
zomg new power window switch bezel/door handles (with new passenger switch)
these actually have a texture on them. not like the shiny worn down ones you always see.
new rear 5-lug hubs and expensive z32 bearings with the lip
bunch of random screws/bolts/nuts/clips/plugs/etc
i guess that's it for now. got a little more sandblasting to do. then some welding and painting underneath, and it will be ready for the body shop!

I can promise you that it is not anywhere near a SMALL fortune. And the car will easily be worth WAY more then 10 Grand when hes done. I would say at least, 14 Grand with everything but the engine in it. Tr4nch you better not Ever sell it. And if you one day decide oh i wanna give up on it i will be the first on the list. I would be more then happy to pay that much for that thing Painted with no engine. Do you plan to race it? or just restore it and collect it? maybe a little bit of both? Beautiful man, Just beautiful! Keep up the good work! Are you keeping record of all the part numbers you are ordering?

thank you everyone for the comments | Quote, originally posted by Ghostdrifter88 » | i think you should get a custom title for this great ****. great work man. |
if i could get one, it would have to be "insane rust killer" apparently my chassis dolly write up isn't worthy of a custom title so i was thinking if i have time i might do one for how to fix rust the right way as for the cost of the oem stuff. it's actually not all that bad. only thing i regret getting was the stupid expensive z32 rear bearings with the lip on them. i could have sourced the "other" anchor pins for the e-brake assembly and got the cheap non-lip bearings and saved myself almost $200 oh well. i was going to get all new glass also but it would have been another $2,300 for everything after the 20% discount i might still just get a new windshield but i'll worry about that later. and like i said before, i don't plan on ever selling it. my plan for the car is mostly daily driving, only in nice weather of course. i probably won't drive it in the rain anymore, and definitely not in the winter (or at least up until the first snow falls). the only water this car will see is when i wash it haha. and it will be garage kept. i will be doing spirited driving and might do some autocross at the track occasionally just for fun, but that's about it. most likely won't be doing any drifting. i think grip is cooler anyways and yes, i have a huge excel sheet with all the parts i've ordered, and others on there if i need them in the future.
