hey guys

found a problem with the 01 qx4 today, havent touched the seats in a long time but today my girl wanted to drive and i went to move the seat forward and it doesnt go!!, the recliner knob works but the back and forth one does not, it makes a relay clicking noise from the switch when you move it though.

One thing I should point out, my girl said one day she went to move it back and forth and it didnt work for her, but insteadshe said she felt something moving the BOTTOM of the seat (where your *** is) UP and DOWN, like towards the ceiling (ofcourse she didnt say anything)

I cant see anyway to get access to the switch or anything so I really dont even know how to diagnose this.

Anyone got any ideas or tricks of the trade?

Thanks

This probably doesn't help a great deal, as I don't have power seats in my Pathy, but I seem to remember a while back that there was a discussion around this problem, and that it is more common than one would think. I also remember reading something in the Maxima forum about power seat failures.Try a search and see what you get. Good luck.

my first pathfinder had the same problem. i took the seat out and just disconnected all the plugs and i couldnt figure anything out. so i plugged it back in and the seat was working. it stopped again later and i just did the same thing and it worked again. you may also have something in the track small bic lighters fit in there pretty nicely.

i hope you have the same luck as i did.

if you havent removed the seat yet, make sure you disconnect the battery. just to make sure you dont deploy any airbags if you disconnect the yellow connector. good luck

This same thing has been happening in my 01 QX4 for some time now. This is funny because everything that's wrong with my car is currently being posted on this board, what a great forum! The up and down action works and so does the recline but no front back motion. I also have the same problem with my Passenger seat, what a pain! Thanks for posting.

I had a similar problem in my QX4. I narrowed the problem down to the Power Seat Motor. (There was power going to it when the button was pushed)

I have worked on Electric Motors before and know that sometimes they get "Stuck". I tapped the motor a few times with a hammer and it started working again. No problems since. (Its been about a year)

Where exactly did you tap it? Thanks

Fixed it

Like the guy posted a few posts up there, all it took was to disconnect the power from the motor, then I disconected my battery, connected the seat plug, then connected the battery.

WORKS AGAIN!!! WOOO

I just tapped the motor itself. I hit it a few times lightly but tried a little harder when it would not come loose. Maybe quarter swings.

1st I like to say, Thanks for every information that was posted. Very helpful info.I had a similar problem in my QX4 2001. The up and down action works and so does the recline but no front back motion, and it makes a relay clicking noise from the switch when you move it though. I tapped the motor a few times with a long metal object with a hammer and it started working again. No problems since. It's has been about 5 days. I hope it will continued to work.

Sorry, but where exactly did you guys tap it? From the front, the side, the back, just random tapping from all around? I guess I'll go tap on anything I see, but was wondering where the best spot was!thanks

Try to taping it from the back side. Slide the seat forward to get a better view of the motor. Good luck

Hi WOT,

I stumbled onto this topic since my wife's QX4 is having the same issue as everyone else has described. Could you tell me if:- you had to remove the seat or were the seat connections accessible without removing anything- is there a diagram for QX4 power seats available on line anywhere (is it needed?)- has the "fix" lasted...is your seat still working?

Thanks (to you and all that post on this forum)...this isn't the first time I've come to this forum for a QX4 fix! I'm sure that I've saved several hundred dollars because of this forum.

Regards,Gary

Hey, no i didnt have to remove the seat at all, the motor is like right in the middle and maybe 4" back from the front of the seat you cant miss it if you get your head down there. There isnt a mahual needed (or atleast I didnt), I simply undid the 2 connections that go to the motor, cleaned them with electrical spray cleaner, reassembled, gave it a few taps with a small ratchet and voila it worked, dont know if it was the electrical or the tapping that fixed it, but its still working great to this day....

I keep getting this problem over and over again maybe because the seat is always as far back as it can go, but i noticed it seems to sit in its own little groove right at the end.

so what i do is put my hand in the crease of the seat and hold forward on the button than give it a good couple tugs and it works. I pull it toward the steering wheel but it seems to get it out of that spot and it works again.

I must say I'm amazed by 'old school' mechanics. Like the others, I had power seat motors that didn't budge (the up/down/tilt motors), despite voltage at the motor terminals. I figured the motors were bad.

A couple taps on one motor with a hammer, and one was working.

The second one took a couple more taps, and I manually turned the shaft with some pliers. It too took to working right away.

I love fixed that don't involve cash outlays, just a little knowledge.

Thanks forum members for doling out the knowledge.

Not unusual for the motor to go out. Happened on mine twice. had it replaced under warranty.

I think mine stopped working when the rear seat belt connection cover came loose and jammed the front seat when I tried to move it back. Will be trying the "hit" trick if it happens again.

Ahhhh the old tap/bang methodology. Definitely worked on the wife......hey you left that one wide open for me....haha

I'm going to try this on my drivers side up/down motor in a few minutes - been out for 4 months now.

Thanks for the great post!

this is my 3rd car and these pathfinder seats are the worst seats in the world. It wont slide front to back and i had an old mechanic check it out and hes stumped... they are so uncomfortable and i even have the heated lethar seats... Its almost worth buying a chevy for the seats

Am having this same issue on my 05 G35. Tried tapping the motor with no luck. The motor is working, it just gets jammed. Like the seat tries to pivot. Any advice?
