I leave my iPod mini hooked up to my 2008 G35 permanently, and the iPod battery completely drains. The problem appears to be that the car doesn't shut the iPod off when the car is turned off (I checked the iPod 20 minutes after the car was shut off, and one time the iPod was off and another time it was still on).

Not only does this problem cause the iPod to unusable if removed from the car (since the battery is drained), but it causes it to lose track of what it was last playing when the car is started again.

Anyone also have this problem? Maybe it's a problem with the iPod mini only?

thanks.

Hey Singularity! Welcome to Nicoclub! Don't forget to post pics of your beauty on the members rides thread at the top of this forum. Also, be sure to check out the search button at the top to see if anyone else has discussed this topic in the past... it helps you find info quickly!

I recently purchased an adapter for my '07 Sedan and have noticed that you have to shut the IPOD off when exiting the vehichle... my wife drove it the other day and didn't know to shut off the IPOD and it drained just like yours does... I'm a little disappointed in the interface with the IPOD and the G... you cannot change songs & Albums on the steering wheel which is a distraction while driving... I definately purchased the auxilary jack that connects to the bottom of the IPOD as I like to watch video when I'm waiting in a parking lot... (Must have the E-brake on)

I have also noticed major differences in the type of IPOD you have... My wife has the 80G video Ipod which I can watch video in the car, but when I connect my IPOD Nano, I cannot watch video on the car's screen... must be a software issue. I'm sure someone with experience in this dept. will chime in soon... You'll find everyone here very helpful

Hope you enjoy the new G and be sure to let us know how you like it!

I have a similar problem with my ipod mini on my other car (sequoia) I installed an ipod adapter that connects it through the factory head unit. I can advance the song but thats about it, through the factory nav screen and steering wheel control but that is about it, it doesn't display any info on the screen, it uses the sat. connection. It does charge my ipod when plugged in and sometimes turns off when the car is turned off and sometimes it doesn't. It may be an issue with the mini, it seems totally random as I have tried to simulate when it turns off and when it doesn't. Unfortunately the 2007 G35's didn't have ipod connection as an option, so I can't see if it would behave the same way in my G.

AZferrell:What type of adapter did you install in your 2007? Is it the an adapter that hooks up to the audio/video inputs in the center console. If not, do you have control thought the headunit screen? You said no steering wheel control but if you can control it through the screen its better than nothing. Trying to change songs/albums using the ipod can be quite dangerous.

Thanks,Joe

Hey Joe,

I bought the Apple Adapter that connects to the center console... there are 3 inputs (YELLOW/WHITE/RED) in the car, but there are 5 Wires with the adapter (YELLOW/RED/WHITE/BLUE/GREEN)... I've tried different combinations witht the blue and green wires, but no such luck... I cannot change anything on the audio console in dash or on the steering wheel... I don't like to use the IPOD, because you are right... it takes your eyes off the road too long... On the info screen in the car, it only say's "AUX" when I connect the IPOD...

I figured that I would buy the Apple Adapter as that would probably be the most compatible, but I think I may have wasted the $50 for the good adapter... any other suggestions would be helpful...

The AUX in the console was a big + when I bought my G but your correct there is no cool way to control the IPOD.

I 've tried everything and eventually just stopped bring the IPOD with me it wasn't worth the hassel when I have a 6 disc changer in the dash .

Strangely, sometimes the iPod shuts off when I exit the car, and other times it doesn't. I'm going to try to figure out if it's random, or if there is a pattern (for instance, this morning it shut off, and I happened to be using the iPod source at the time I shut the engine off...)

The iPod isn't going to turn off because its not docked to anything, its just connected through a mini-jack to RCAs just as if your headphones were in...at least that's going to be my assumption for this post because I haven't seen the interface on the 08s but I have on the 07s and its just RCAs.

iPods won't turn off when the car is shut off with this type of connection because the iPod doesn't know the car has shut off. For all it knows your headphones are still plugged in and so its going to keep playing. You could just unplug it from the mini-jack and it'll automatically pause and automatically shut off. If there was an actual dock, then that'd be a different story. The randomness in shutting off may be due to the playlist ending at some point, in which the iPod stops and after its inactive for a few minutes, automatically shuts off.

Actually, the 08 interface is a dock connector (that's one of the main stereo differences from 07)

Hmm, well then, I guess its just a poorly designed interface. That sucks.

arizona...if that blue wire is blue/white, that's most likely your turn on lead so you could wire that to the wire that is the factory switch turn on (there's a constant 12V wire and a switch turn on wire that actually allows the unit to turn on when the ignition is in the ACC or on position). See what that wire actually is in the adapter manual and find a wiring diagram for the G, someone's posted them before in here.

Jeff,No CJ-5 here, just the 07 G35 Sport with premium package and 05 Sequoia Limited with Luxury package Nav and RSE. You must not have the music box since you have 6 disc in dash changer so the following doesn't help you. Not that you are missing much without the music box though.

I used the ipod w/the mini plug and audio in the G but it was a PITA. Where to put the ipod and my phone and my coffee mug. I do rip cds to the "music box". To get them from my itunes into the music box i first rip an audio cd....NOT an mp3 cd...(you can change how to save to cd in settings in itunes)..then put it into the cd player of the G and it records it to the 9gig music box. The only thing is that the playlist in itunes becomes the album name. For instance i burned the "purchased" folder for all my itunes bought music to cds. Audio cds hold much less than mp3 cds(about as much as a regular store bought cd album) so I had to use 5-6 cds to rip my purchased folder. Well on the Music box all those are listed under the album "purchased" 5-6 "purchased" albums. Kind of annoying but I can list them by artist plus I don't have any complete albums bought from itunes.

So if you burn to audio cds from itunes make a playlist with the album name from a single artist burn it and rip it to the music box and the alblum name should be correct. I haven't done this yet as I barely have time to sleep with work and all these days. I've been meaning to get a 4 gig CF card and try that but haven't gotten around to it.

On top of all this there is a 6 disc changer in the trunk which has never even been used in the 7 months I have owned the G and put over 12k on it driving 30 miles to work each day.Joe

Okay, so I'm bringing this one back from the dead. Everyday I search youtube to see if there are any new videos for the G35/G37. Today, I did my usual search and this video comes up from "LUCID" showing the IPOD integration into the G35...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTcv7E5DMrQ

Question 1: is this the same "LUCID" that is a nicoclub.com member?Question 2: The video mentions that the jack comes included in the car???? NOT MINE! I had to buy an apple jack from best buy... Infiniti did not give me oneQuestion 3: How did this person get the Ipod to interface with the display screen and the steering column controls?

If anyone knows these answers, I would like to know how this is done as I'm currently holding my IPOD on my lap and switching songs/playlists manually (Kinda dangerous, I know, but I always keep my eyes on the road when in motion)

Help is appreciated.

Dave

Well, it is an 08...good chance they updated the ipod integration system. I would call everythingg35 and see if it is a different integrator.
