I'm just about done building my KA-T. I have all the goodies, Cams, Valves, Springs, Rods, Pistons, AEM Stand alone, etc.

I want to run a GT28R. The question I have is is there a differance in performance between a top or bottom mount manifold.

Suggestions?

I also forgot to mention the car will be for street use in the city.

mainly clearance issues... t28 should be fine bottom mount. My boys sr is.

I like bottom more then top mount only cause with top mount its sitting right on top of the heat and heat rises.

Wow man, if you already dumped that much cash into your car, dont run an undersized turbo.. You could have a freaken monster of a KA-T setup, you just need to go with a t3 sized turbo.

A t2 sized turbo will actually work as a restrictor at higher rpms, because the Ka24 is such a big 4 banger. While you wouldnt have much lag to speak of with a t28, your top end would lack power.

The 'best' turbo, meaning the overall most efficient one for our engines is a t3/t4 50 trim .63 ar turbo.

Those are just my suggestions, but you would probably get the same ones from the majority of the Ka-T crowd. Onto your question...

A topmount turbo are thought to be more efficient than a bottom mount turbo. Since heat rises easier than it falls, with a topmount you would be going with the laws of nature. However, i dont think it would be a noticeable difference. Its not like the gas's that are spinning your turbo are casually flowing out of the heads, looking for the path of least resistance to go through. I personally would rather go with a bottom mount t3 manifold like AMS's for weight distribution. A bottom mount would keep your center of gravity as low as possible. However a topmount just looks so cool ^^.

Honestly its up to you, either way you wouldnt notice much of a difference.

agreed all but the last statement, you would feel the difference a t 3 makes but top or bottom its on you, now you have some info and options do some research and pic what fits you, I like the whole where is your turbo aspect of bottom mounts. but as said top mounts are sexier look at mine(1st page) vs some of these other guys with t3 t3/4 turbos. your like ohh ooohh wheres it at.

So your thinking I should use a T30?

Is there a scale that shows size Vs. Specs? Such as .50/63AR equals a "GT35R" (Example)

I agree.

If you have money to spend (it seems like it from your set-up) or even if you need to save some more cash, I recommend you visit AMS' website and look at their turbo kit. http://www.amsperformance.com/...d=849

Heh i ment that last line in reference to his original question, Top or bottom mount.. Sa'l good ^^

To the OP ----> What do you mean by scale? You could learn to read a compressor map and compare them side by side..

Or you could just take our word for it hehe, trust me were right on the money. You dont need a t3/t4, but overall its the most efficient for our engines. However this doesnt mean its the BEST turbo for your goals. If you wanted a faster spool just get a GT30, or a GT32 or something like it, you wont be disappointed with any t3 sized turbo with your goals in mind. Considering your doing mostly city driving you might want to lean in that direction instead of a hybrid turbo.

Thanks for the help, I spoke with Precision Turbo last night. I'm going with a GT2871R. I gave him all the specs of my motor and fuel system. They said it should be good for around 400whp and still maintain great drivability. They also said I wouldn't really feel a big differance on lag between this one and the Disco Potato.
