Tomorrow I'm going to get a j30 vlsd and I was wondering if I need to get the axles to? Or will have to use the stock axles?? I read the tech article but I don't think it said any thing about what axles to use. This is for an S13. If theres some kind of article that I missed that's not in the tech article section that has more info on what I'm inquiring that'd be great if you could post a link to it. Thanks!!

J30 uses 5 bolt axles so you will need them....

Neither of these newbs know what they are talking about.

5 bolt star pattern J30's are 1994 and before.

1995-96 J30's have the same pattern as the 240SX, all that is needed are the J30's two long support bolts from near the drive shaft and the washers that go with them. Some people say you need to swap your regular 240SX drive shaft for a shaft from a ABS equipped model, but mine has been fine for 3 years now no problems...

S13's need to swap over the cover from the old diff to the J30's. Buy a gasket for it at any parts store, Most RWD Nissan diffs use the same gasket.

so the axles will fit on the s13 hubs though? If so would I be better off to just go ahead and do that? Btw its a 95 J30.

Hubs? Axles? I'm not sure what you are saying, but you don't need any hubs or whatnot.

Okay, I will repeat it again in a different way.

All you do is swap the cover from your S13's old diff onto your J30 diff and bolt the whole thing in if it truly is from a 95. You can't use the two bolts from the S13 to bolt in the drive shaft side because the S13 bolts are not long enough (use the ones from the J30).

Does that help?

Okay I understand what your saying about the two bolts that you have to have from the J30 to bolt in the draftshaft I got ya. My question that I'm trying to get at is... Will my stock s13 axles fit in the new j30 diff.?? I'm assuming they do since it hasn't been mentioned. The next ? is will the J30 axles that are already in the J30 diff. hookup to the s13 hubs??? I hope you understand what I'm asking thanks!

That is what "bolt in" means, right?

They are called output shafts, not hubs. Once again, I already answered this question. I said:

This means that it will bolt right up. Just re-read everything I wrote earlier carefully and everything will work just fine.

Well, I did it once, and I know it is better if you do not only get the diff because if you are not lucky enough, chances are it is not a bolt on.

I looked up craigslist and I found somebody was parting out a J30. So I went ahead and take the diff, both axles, and all the bolts that was from the J30.

I think it is the best if you have a chance to measure if your diff is the same length as the J30 one. By doing so, you will know you can use the stock drive shaft or not. The other thing to check on the diff is if the output shaft is 5 or 6 bolts. If it is 5, then you need the axle (make sure you get the bolts cause they are bigger than the stock ones from the 6 bolt axles); if 6, then you can use your stock units. And make sure you get the 2 big bolts that holds the diff onto the sub frame (stock ones are too short). After these checks, you can know for sure if the diff can fit in your car.

Hope this helpsJesse Tang

All I'm trying to do is get exact details on what I'm getting tomorrow and that's it. So sorry for inconveniencing you my bad...

since its a 95 all you need is the diff itself and the aforementioned j30 bolts. ur preexisting axles and hubs will be fine

i think hes asking if he can use the j30 output shafts, maybe he doesnt like his s13 ones. We know the s13 ones bolt up to the dif, but do the j30 ones work in their place?

Or the guy could just get a Silvia/180sx VLSD and it's a true bolt in with no hassle.
