I first want to say Hi and I really love my new nissan. However I recently bought a '02 sentra and am having some electrical problems.

1: My fog lights don't work. They didn't work when I bought them but on day they randomly worked w/o having the switch on or even the headlights or car on... wierd

2: Then a week ago I'm sitting at a light and I turn on my heat and my car dies. It didn't putter and die tho, it just shut off. I restarted the car and my heat and ac still worked. However my dome light doesn't turn on when I open the door but does when I flip the switch. My rear defroster doesn't work anymore. Worst of all my power door locks don't work which consequently made my keyless entry not work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated b/c me and all of my friends and family are stumped.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard!

Definitely some weird activity going no there - Sure you didn't get a "Katrina car"?

You said the "fog lights didn't work when you bought them" - You mean when you bought the car?

You haven't done any electrical work on the car, right? No stereo stuff?

The other stuff almost sounds like a Body Control Module - I'm not sure where it's located on a Sentra, but that affects a lot of the systems you mentioned.

Go through EVERY fuse in the fuse panel, making sure they're all intact and functional.

I'm leaning towards the BCM as the culprit here...

I bought the car from an Acura dealership and was assured it had a clear title and thats what I got in the mail. I haven't personally done any electrical work but it does have an aftermarket radio (AIWA).

The fog lights haven't worked since I purchased the car until randomly one day without the car on (almost ran my battry down and needed a jump). Then I pulled out the fuse and they turned off. Never had the problem again. (They still don't turn on tho)

I've checked both fuse boxes (under hood and dash) but couldn't find any fuses that were blown.

Oh. And I forgot to mention my cruise control doesn't work either. It turns on but it doesn't set a speed.

AS IS is a warning that you must PAY an OUTSIDE expert to evaluate any used car prior to purchase. Spending a few hundred for a total evaluation sure beats spending multiple thousands from buying a mistake.

Used cars always have problems that's the main reason they are resold. [the trick is to buy one that need only a thousand not $3,000].

Flood damage doesn't have to be from a hurricane, the first thing I assume with electrical problems..............after market stereo is always a warning of the type of previous owner.

I understand I should have had a professional look at it... my mistake. But what recommendations can you give me to fix the problem. I am pretty good with maintenance as I have done multiple electrical, engine, and other modifications to my other car. I've checked all the fuse boxes and havn't noticed any corrosion on the terminals so I really don't think it is flood/liquid damage. Above some one recommended me check out the BCM. Does anyone know where this is located on the SE-R Sentra...? Does anyone have a wiring diagram as I can't find a service manual anywhere.

How wierd is it that everything started to work fine yesterday! The night it stopped working and my car died I picked up a grill from my g/f parents and put it in my trunk. Its a portable fully-functional grill in a duffle bag (perfect for tailgating). Well it took me awhile to get it out b/c of how busy I've been. I took it out two days ago and yesterday I reopened and shut my trunk (2nd time since getting the grill). Now everything is working (except my fogs, which haven't worked since I've owned the car). How weird is that! Extremely fustrating
