i got a 95 240sx only thing is its a auto... i really wanted a 5spd... but at that time i was in a rush to get a 240.... neways i was thinkin bout swapin it to a 5spd.. but i figure that its to much money to spend...so then my second option was to put a turbo on it (my KA is already tune up)... i really need you guys opion on this one... its really worth spending money on a turbo kit even though its auto... so shudd i juss get it swap to a 5spd... or (last but not least) find a manual 240??? thanks

You don't need a manual car to have a turbo. Hell, auto is better IMO, you don't let off the throttle during shifts therefore boost just goes and goes. Just strengthen your transmission a bit. didja know it's the same transmission that's in a Skyline?and for drag racing, an AT (built properly) beats an MT.

ii beg to differ. My automatic 240 is slower then piss. and its not the engine, its the fact that it is a 4 speed. i hit 40 in first gear, and 72 in second. now you tell me that acceleration is gonna be faster then a manual and ill break a block over your head.

He said a built Auto will be faster than a manual. He's right. Auto's are also great with turbos.

Oh, and a stock manual 240 is still slow as piss. =\

turbo charge it! u can worry about the 5spd later...with long gear ratios of an auto and the extra horse power from the turbo it will make the power seem just about right..

Parts shouldn't be more than $500. Buy a holesaw bit and do it yourself. I've done more than a handful of Auto-Manual swaps in the street in a couple hours. Expect a little longer your first time but it's really not that hard, especially with a friend.

Oh, and don't be weak so you can just benchpress the transmission down.

500 tops on a transmission, I scored one for 150 and I am going to put it in for free

So by my calculations

150 < 3000

But idk I could be wrong??

my transmission came free with my shell, but in buying parts for complete the swap i estimate i have spent $20 so far and im about $40 away from having everything.

A transmission swap is only 400-500$, and you will most definintly notice more power and better handeling. IMO I would do the transmission swap, then go turbo. I have a great writeup on transmission swaps stickied in the tech section. Pretty easy to do, you will want some friends to help though. You have friends right? I did the transmission swap myself in my garage and I'm not really mechanically inclined

yeah it shifts like butter.im thinkin it should be fine, i mean 50,000 is super low for a 240, and the original owner was an lady that bought it new so its never been beaten on. which is good

heat is the #1 killer of automatic transmissions,if you are serious about keeping the auto in it and adding more power trow in an aftermarket transmission cooler with a temp gauge to monitor it .that should do the trick.

Just run a good quality oil cooler and good auto fluid and i'm sure you'll be fine. I'm assuming you're looking at a cxracing kit?

What a horrid horrid thread of fail.....

A good used 5 speed and new trimmings for all quality performance parts will run close in the 1K range yes. (rear main seal $50, lightweight flywheel $300, good clutch kit $300, slave, trans pedal, shaft etc and lines $400)

But a quality turbo build done right will cost mush much more.

And your not tuned for turbo already, please read the wealth of info we have please.

$3,000 for a transmission swap? Ive been given an estimate of $3,500 for a SR Blacktop swap WITH the auto to 5 speed conversion!!! Parts and labor.

I can't believe this thread lasted this long!!! IT IS A f***ING SPORTS CAR! so stop with this automatic crap and don't sell your soul. Five speed swaps on 240's are the easiest in the market. I've done old '80s BMW auto-to-stick and that was a nightmare... besides what makes you think the 4-speed is going to handle 300whp? you will need a beef-up and and then you are out a couple of grand.... I'm just sayin'
