IM redoing the sticky at the top and I need some Y33 owners to chime in

There aren’t any issues out of the ordinary with these cars, aside from normal wear and tear with age. The only things reported on this board are items like Knock sensors, O2 sensors, and suspension/brake components, they wear out and need replacing as they would on any car. In the later models with the adjustable suspension (99-01 Touring), replacement shocks and struts can be very expensive. Consumer Reports give the 97-01 Q45 a used car “Best Buy” rating, and it scores no less than 4 out of 5 in any area on JD Powers. Here is an outline of what you might expect. - They seem to have less issues with injectors than the 90-93 Q, most injector failures on these seem to be in areas with less than stellar gasoline. - knock sensor failure at higher miles (really more of a funtion of age, lower mileage ones should have some life left on them).- Suspension rehab can be expensive due to the lack of aftermarket shocks, this is especially true for the adjustable 99-01 Touring model.- Expect coil pack failure along with knock sensors as these cars age.

Wes, you might want to add the Turbine Sensor leaking issue. I've had mine replaced at 80K.

I like it, you took some of what we worked on and are getting more. I think having a separate thread for each generation will be Extremely helpful. Good work.

Eventually I will take all these threads and take the information and combine them inot a mega-sticky...

Id like to wait a week for people to chime in and keep adding things.

Nope. Happened on my Q45t G50 with only 30K. Never happened (yet) on the Y33 with 72K.

Remember the Alternator and Wheel recalls.

I know about the wheels (and forgot) but there was a recall on the alternators?

Here are the few recalls I am aware of.

Recall Date: DEC 14, 1998 Summary: VEHICLE DESRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE IGNITION KEY CAN BE REMOVED WHEN THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF WITHOUT PLACING THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER IN THE "PARK" POSITION. THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 102, "TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER SEQUENCE, STARTER INTERLOCK, AND TRANSMISSION BRAKING EFFECT." Consequence: IF THIS OCCURRED AND THE DRIVER FAILED TO MOVE THE SHIFT LEVER TO 'PARK' OR ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE, THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL AWAY IF PARKED ON A SLOPE. Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT. Potential Units Affected: 22000 Notes: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.

Recall Date: JUN 24, 2002 Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, ONE OF THE DIODES USED IN THE ALTERNATOR MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED WHEN BUILT. THIS CAN EVENTUALLY RESULT IN FAILURE OF THE DIODE AND AN ELECTRICAL SHORT WHICH COULD MELT THE PLASTIC HOUSING. Consequence: IF THE COMBUSTIBLE GAS EMITTED BY THE MELTING PLASTIC DOES NOT DISPERSE DUE TO AIR FLOW THROUGH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, IT COULD IGNITE AND IN TURN IGNITE THE FAN GUIDE IN THE ALTERNATOR. Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 29, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200. Potential Units Affected: 161000 Notes: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.

But the 99's and up have a different harness with 2 extra plugs. This might be good to add.

To be honest, I don't know. I paid my mechanic to replace it.

The KS harness is shared with Manifold Absolute Pressure Switch Solenoid Valve, and EGRC Solenoid Valve.

The Coolant Temperature Sensor shares the harness with the pass side injectors.

There was also an issue with the leaky headlamp assembly, it was a recall or TSB I think.

We should also put in something about how to get higher performance shocks and springs since Faulk has a line on those and is being most helpful to get us setup.

1997, I believe. Same time as the Maxima, I recall. I can search for the TSB if no one else knows.

The springs? Yes, but not with the computer automatic shock switching available in 1998 and later on the t and 2k ae model.

According to your VIN with the touring package, the front spring part number is 54010-3H000, and 55020-6P005 for the rear..

for everything the same, except non touring, i pulled 54010-6P105 for the front, and 55020-6P009 for the rear.....

That is not to say they are not interchangeable, but definitley different part numbers.

GOD, THIS JUST FIGURES

Is there anyway to figure out what the difference is? Im almost wondering if it's just different spring tensions. But on the other hand, it could be a totally different design.

Dude, they'll work fine, I'd be absolutely shocked if they don't. The strut assembly is identical, therefore the spring seats are identical. Just install them, they will fit 100% for sure. The ONLY difference is likely the spring rate, the size and shape is the same, and in any case, the spring rate on the TEIN's is different too.

OK, I feel better now

The anticipation is just killing me then this pops up. You can see why I got nervous. As long as you say they will work, Im happy.

Wes, I would also add the info about the Anniversary Edition and the Touring models having electronically adjusted suspension components (struts) which makes it more expensive to RR.

And the assisted closing trunk came along by 2k model year. Side air bags and other stuff detailed in another post were added each year until 2001.

I guess I will forward that on to Wes.
