Just wana poll here to see what setups u guys are running with your electric fans and what temps do u have them set to kick over at...

I need some idea's, cause my setup i think is kinda iffy...Both my 12 inch fans are hot wired into the harness that fed the single 10 inch elec fan, so they will kick on at 208 and when the a/c is kicked on...

i dont like the temps up near and above 200.

i think you should hardwire them to run constantly when the car is turned on

with my completely stock cooling system my water temps were always in the 180's always

i just broke my stock radiator so i put in a koyo, nismo t-stat and wired my a/c fan to turn on with the car. my temps stay in the 150's now.

i use dual fans from a taurus sho. the bigger fan is on a thermoswitch (from a/z) that comes on around 190. the smaller fan is on a seperate switch which i can control in the car.

if you dont have ac, just leave fan speed 1 on cold and the ac button turned on

then if you are under 15mph or so the ac fan always runs.

Running Nissan Sentra dual electric fans. One turns on at whatever the stock Sentra termostat turns on... the other works with the AC. I'm planning on hotwire everything so that they stay on if I want them to... track day for example.

interesting.............i was looking into a way to get the fans wired up without having them hooked up all the time. i hear when they are wired to b on all the time, the engine sometimes never warms up. so u wired it to the a/c plug thing. then would running a nismo thermostat lower the temp at which the fans would come on if the fans were wired into the a/c plug thing? correct me if im wrong..............

if you dont turn on the a/c then the fan wont turn on til the temp reaches 203 degrees

Its not my problem.. It was corrected.

But i think that 208 is kinda high for the fans to kick over at. Its worked fine in my previous 240's, but it was a simple install and i didnt have to have a separate therm control box.

I thougt about wiring one fan on all the time and one on with the a/c butWhile cruising on the hwy at hwy speeds, their is NO need to have any fans running cause their is enough air flow passing thru the radiator to keep the temps stable. Thats why i dont believe in running a fan or fans while acc is on. Thats just an elec draw on the system and wear and tear on the fan/s.

So, thats why both are wired into that circuit so that they ONLY kick on when the temp rises, but i think that 208 is high as Anthony stated...

Quote »then would running a nismo thermostat lower the temp at which the fans would come on if the fans were wired into the a/c plug thing? correct me if im wrong..............[/quote]No, that nismo thermostat only opens sooner than the oem / factory thermostat. I believe the oem opens at 195 F and the nismo opens at 169 which helps keep the water temps cooler... which means the fans dont have to kick on as often... I may be buying one to see if this helps..

oh ok. so if say the nismo t stat was installed and i turned on the a/c, would it come on at a lower temp tho or still the consistent 203? the other recommendation i received was the use of the Greddy MSS. i really would hate to spend 150 on it thought just to control my fans. granted it is the best thing out there since it can make ur fans come on at whatever temp or rpm or gear, the cost is like twice what i paid for the fans.....

NO, when u kick the a/c over, the fans kick on automatically and stay on regardless what the temp is. This falls TRUE for ther 240.

However, in my Hyundai Tucson, when we kick the a/c on, the fans will not kick over immediately. They stay off for a while, then the fans kick on for a minute or so, then shut back down, and this cycle continue's.. So i would assume that on their system, the fans are temp controlled with or without the a/c

That therm u are talking about is supposed to keep the water temps cooler than normal.. ( in theory ), but im gonna buy one very soon to see if it helps

i see what ur saying. so then there is no way to lower the temp at which the a/c circuit would kick in to activate the fan? or in other words, if i put both fans to the a/c plug thingy, there is no way (besides obviously turning on the a/c) to lower the 208 degree temp at which they would come on? sorry if it sounds redundant but i have electric fans collecting dust due to wiring predicament at hand................

No, it cant be changed. You are getting both these topics confused. The ecu has 2 different settings for the elec fan:

A: when u turn the a/c on... the elec fan turns on regardless of what the water temp is and the fan will stay ON until u shut the a/c off....

B: IF the a/c is OFF and the water temp reaches 203, the ecu will kick over the elec fan on its low speed side to help bring the water temps down. IF the water temps continue to rise and if it hits 212, then the ecu will kick the fan over to its high speed side. Now these temps are set in the ecu and cannot be changed to my knowledge... Maybe jwt can since they can re-map the inj duty cycle's and timming, i dont know... if they could. that would be sweet as hell

I tried to run off this same 10 inch elec fan and it worked great until i turned the a/c on, then it would overheat. Although the fan was on and running, it still overheated, so i had to shut the a/c off so that it would not overheat...

That is why i went to a set of dual 12's...

yeah the fans wouldn't turn on unless it hits 203. anthony confirmed this with me. however if i had my fan's constantly running. i can't maintain operating temp when it gets alittle chilly.

i can manuely turn on my fan with my a/c switch since my compressor doens't kick on for some reason and when i do that, the temp drops down to cold after 10 minutes and it can't maintain operating temp. i can drive for 30 minutes in traffic and leave the fans on and the temp will just drop. that is why i refuse to run mine on constantly.

the way it currently is, the car's needle doesn't seem to move ( i know its dampend and doesn't show movement until it gets seriously hot ) but when i manuely kick on the a/c in the summer i can sit in traffic for over 2 hours with the a/c blasting and the temp needle would never move. that is why i'm satisfied

I had the flexalite dual 12's with their fan controller and it was running for about 2 years before the controller crapped out.

Now I am designing my own dual fan controllers with individual temp settings to turn on the fan anywhere from 150-220F, with on-board relays & taps into factory temp sensor to simplify wiring.

i recently was driving around with a snapon scanner in my car and was watching the coolant temprature. Normal crusing around town was 176-178 degrees. Highway at 70 mph, 174-175 degrees for about 10 miles. Sitting still at idle 8-10mins the temps never went above 191. Snapon scanner with factory '96 coolant temprature sensor. Factory Radiator, factory mechacical fan w\ shroud inplace. 70% water\ 30% coolant. Out side temprature was around 82 degrees, with a 30x10x3 (core) spearco FMIC blocking direct airflow.

the A\C was off while i recorded the numbers and there really wasnt much change in tempratures, maybe +2 degrees around town.

Thats my setup right now.. I did this yrs ago on my s13 also. The only prob is the ecu is set to kick the fan over on low speed at 203 and high speed at 212 in the event the mechanical fan fails... So this is strictly a back up. which means the water temps should not be that high under normal conditions..

well what i'm saying is that i could be driving for a long time and the temp needle would be in the middle ( operating temp ) and when it rains i would have to turn on my a/c defogger. now when you turn on the a/c the electric fan would kick on. as you see from my sig i'm running a 89 sentra electric fan setup. so when those dual fans kick on and stay on for 10 or so minutes the needle would drop down to cold.

now imagine if those fans stayed on for the lenght of my drive ( usually i drive for 1 hour ) the car would never reach operating temp if the fan stays on from the moment i turn on the ignition.

Thats the way it should be, if ur driving on the hwy for a while at hwy speeds, the temps SHOULD stay solid.

lol your not understanding me. it doesn't stay solid if i manualy turn them on and keep them on. the needles drops past C. and it wouldn never go higher then the bottom part of C.

or maybe i'm not understanding you, when the ecu reads 150 degrees where is the needle positioned?

I busted a head gasket once due to a stuck thermostat not opening up. I just ditched it and I'm running it straight through. Just takes longer to warm the car up. So I just let it idle or shift at around 2-3krpms while the motor is warming up.

Does it really get that low..?? Mine on a normal 85-95 degree day, the temps with the fan ON will never drop below 180....When it gets cold out like below 70's, then i would see about 165-170 and again with the fans on...

Thats odd that ur temps drop that low...

I used to think the same thing when my E fans came on and I have a Greddy radiator. I was thinking the water temps were really droping but that's not the case. With the techtom the water temps don't drop like that. I don't really know why the coolant sensor for the needle does that but the water temps don't drop like that. The needle is completely misleading

haha here in nyc it gets as cold at 5 degrees. if i have 2 fans constantly running in all seasons, i car would never warm up. however in the summer when its above 70 degrees like you said, it will stay normal, but up here in nyc we only have 1 season where it will go higher then 70. right now we're in the 40 and 50's.

well unfortunately, i went ahead and got the greddy mss. i got it for a steal so it seems like the safest bet out there as i can control when the fans come on via rpm, boost, temp, gear etc. i will still see if i can shoot an email over to jwt or enthalpy about the question tho.

Update:Email has been sent to enthalpy

just to give yall the update, i emailed enthalpy about being able to reprogram the ecu for a lower temp for the a/c fan to kick on and i received a reply stating that he isnt accessing that part of the code at this time. i guess there is no way then to change the temp when the a/c fan will kick on unless u get some kind of thermal switch.....
