I got custom made(home) CAI with filter hidden in the cavity behind front bumper (to get cooler air). Well, I don't like it. My fuel consuption dropped to about 15-17MPG I don't like it! Positive side is there is a noticable improvement in mid range accel (2000-an-up RPM). I am going back to stock air box (most likely). Total money on the project spent 32$ K&N+22 (for 45 elbow(3 inch)) and silicone coupler (8$). I don't like it. Wipe test revealed no oil on MAF grid or on inside of pipes. TB loocks ok at this point. I will clean it soon anyways as pasrt of a PM. I like the performance, but I don't like the drop in MPG!Cheers!

Just out of curiosity, did you reset the ECU on the car? The idea behind the intake is to make the induction of air more effecient and in the end helping milage. If you didn't reset the ECU though it will still be running a program "Learned" through years of driving. To reset it you should disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 30 min and step on the brake pedal for 30 sec or so. You can also leave the parking lights on. The idea is to drain all the capaciters the computer and various circuts that might hold a charge. Just an idea, then drive it for a week or so and let it re-learn your new intake.

"a program "Learned" through years of driving" ...............say what.

Contrary to popular belief.............the ecu has a very short memory and gets totally rest in less than 30 miles of driving.

What adaptive means is the ability to adapt [the fuel trim] to changing weather conditions.......lower temperature, low barometric pressure ----- going up/down a mountain.

Injector pulse width is set according to MAF V output. Strategy is the more V needed to keep heated element "hot" the longer injector duration to prevent lean condition. Block learn "learns" in 1-2 drive cycles so in real life there is no need to erase "memory" on EFI OBDII car. Speed density system is less prone for CAI changes because there is no MAF in it. Mas air flow (MAF) systems is more sensitive to changes in air flow thus may cuse different reaction from ECU if CAI is installed. So, I will run 1 more tank of gas and determine what to do.Cheers!

That loud sucking sound you like to hear is the sound of cash leaving your pockets.

It's been done!I have gone back to stock setup. I replaced every filter, cleaned TB, filled BG44 and ready to hit the hiway, because it didn't work my way! I got 0W40 M1 filled in crankcase. See what I get out of it!Cheers!

The explaination for the decreased mileage is simple. More air(if there really was an increase) requires more fuel. The more likely cause of this decrease though is that your foot mysteriously turned to lead and slammed on the gas ever chance you got.
