I'm a new user to the site and I could use a little help. I have a 92Q and I'm having problems with the a/c control unit. First, the digital display does not work. Second, the system constantly blows. I've checked the fuses and they are o.k. The off button will not shut the system down. My only solution thus far is to pull the fuses to keep the air from blowing. Any sugestions?

You have 2 problems

THe display is bad... Duh! but they are a common failure on the Q... Jerry Tucker rebuilds them for $100, sometimes you can get lucky and score one from a used one.. generlaly not worth it...

the darlington resistor behind the glovebox is bad... Something like $50 to replace and like 30mins to do it...

Is this resistor different than the a/c amplifier?

Don't know if anyone knows the specs??

Maybe try one of our sponsors (see sticky at top of Infiniti General forum) and see if they have the specs or can locate them for you.

You may well have 3 problems in that a bad fan motor usually causes failure in the Darlington transistor unit. If you don't want to repeat the labor, fix the motor while you are in there, or you will be back soon for another Darlington transistor bridge.

Makes sense indeed... You know the last time I had that out, i took my blower motor apart and cleaned hte internals... Youd be amazed how much crap is inside the motor... Took the back plate off (2 screws), sprayed some brake cleaner, let it dry, then put a little WD40.. Let it dry completely for an hour or so, and it worked great.....

Anytime your in there i think its probably good maintenance and only takes about 10 mins to swap the blowers... I ahve 2 so i can swap em in ready to go.

I did the same, but had to sand down the brushes, because the dust had wore grooves in them. Now it runs like new!
