(I'll thumbnail all of the pictures so it's 56k safe since I'm in a picture happy mood)What could be in there? It's my turbo kit!

Now all I need to do is get my car up and running and I am ready to apply some SOHC ownage to all the domestic hot-heads that seem to plague my home town

(I decided to leave the Greddy DP in its box so it isn't pictured here)

That gentlemen is an equal length, top mount manifold. I don't know of anyone else that makes them for the SOHC motor. If you want more pictures send me a request I'll take some before it goes on the car. The welds are awesome. I can see inside where someone took a dremel and smoothed out the rough spots. The metal is stainless steel I believe.

Tial 38mm wastegate

braided oil lines (the small one is the feed line. it is of such a size that it acts as a pressure regulator, insuring that I won't blow the seals on the turbo) comes with an adaptor that screws in place of my oil pressure sensor and T's off so it can be reconnected. the return line of course comes to a connector that I'll have to tap into my oil pan. the bonus is the hardware included makes is so I don't have to weld on the oil pan or remove it if I don't want to.

Custom made T3/T4 turbo. .48ar on the exhaust side and ?? on the intake. It looks like a .58 or .60 to me but I'm not totally sure. 360 degree thrust bearing and ZERO shaft play

and the coupe de' grace. they sent me a can of PB blaster for the exhaust studs and a Snickers bar to snack on while I'm waiting for the sealant to dry around the bung on my oil pan.

This kit is manufactured by IAP and ran me 2,999$ shipped.

I'll reply to this after installation and once I get the car broken in (new turbo, I'm going to have to allow at least 500 miles as a break in period)

looks like us SOHC guys are getting some more options (they make DOHC kits as well)

-Aaron

yes stage 1

I EXPECT 200 rwhp at 7psi. (my motor has more mileage than i care to share) I would be very happy with 225rwhp at 8psi though. I'll have to see how things go (I do plan on dynoing it as a baseline before I get into modding it more heavily. )

Quote »btw turbos dont need a break in period. squirt some oil in the center cartriage then mount and start her up then go boosting[/quote]I figure since the battery is going to be pulled it will allow time for my computer to adapt and all my worn out seals to adapt to the increase in stress. I like to overkill safety measures sometimes)

List of mods so far:3" BRM exhaust w/ 3" test pipebelt driven fan delete.

that's it as far as power goes. so I am interested to see where I'm at.I just picked up a spare motor 2 weeks ago so after it gets rebuilt I'll be looking at alot bigger numbers. in the interim I'm just planning fuel upgrades.

also the kit came with a Walboro 255lph fuel pump. I forgot to list it in my excitement.

That looks great and I am happy to see that IAP has a sense of humor that is great! I would have taken just the correct parts with my Greddy kit......

i am curious why you got the top mount for the SOHC? will you be able to take out your spark plugs with the turbo and mani on? did you go with top mount to keep your a/c? you should make your hp goals with that turbo, i am running a strainght t3 .42 a/r @ 10psi and it is jsut amazing. no dyno numbers yet but its soo much better than NA. good luck with the project and keep us updates. always cool seeing another SOHC ka-t.

Very nice. Have fun installing and driving it man. Just make sure you do everything correctly. Overkill is just added insurance. And insurance is never money or time wasted. ::"unless its car insurance.lol"::: Good luck.

thanks for the kind words. The spark plugs wires should fit nicely between the runners without issue (I can already tell I'm going to have to wrap the manifold though unless I want to burn through them) I don't forsee an issue removing the plugs. i may have to get a jointed extention for my socket but I doubt it. Thanks for the observation though I'll post a definite response to that issue after it's installed. I removed all my AC components . I just like tubular, equal-length, top mount manifolds the best. Reason 1: turbo selection. I eventually want to be in the upper 400 to mid 500 hp range when I'm done. a top-mount manifold will give me the ability to use alot larger of turbos than a bottom mount. Reason 2: lack of selection. I only know of this manifold and top/bottom mount log-style manifolds for the SOHC. I REALLY wanted a tubular-equal length manifold for the difference in performance (I dont like having to spend money twice) I think there was a thread about the performance advantages earlier so I won't get in to that here.

Thanks again to everyone for the kind words and encouragement. i REALLY look forward to getting all this installed and experiencing the difference

sweet man, looking nice!

I dont want to be a killjoy but just be careful with that manifold. I personally know of three people who got their manifolds from IAP and had that wastegate extension thing crack or break completely off. Be sure to keep your eye on it!

Otherwise looks really sweet, I'm glad they decided to change from deltagates to Tials-- that's a good sign... and you cant beat the PB and snickers!

Keep us posted man!

thank's for the head's up fiz. I'll be sure to watch it. The manifold is warrantied if that happens I should be covered

I'm picking up some exhaust wrap today and I'm going to go buck wild on the downpipe and 02 housing, I may even hit the manifold while I'm at it.

Looks nice, I visited IAP's site and I'm pretty impressed...$3000 for a COMPLETE turbo kit and a brand new turbo built to YOUR specs is a very good deal, especially considering how nice the manifold looks...

When I turbocharged my KA-T back in the day (almost 2 years ago this summer), there were 3 kits available for it and only 3 kits, all over priced and with low-performance manifolds compared to the ones available today: F-max, N-Sport, and XS-Engineering, all which cost at least $3650 + shipping and took MONTHS to arrive.

Now there's a host of complete, higher quality turbo kits and manifold for the KA24DE and KA24E, at a lot cheaper prices (boost designs, IAP, GReddy, etc). Phat KA-T and now full race make some of the nicest manifolds I've ever seen. It's ridiculous how the scene has exploded...

Good luck man!

i have the IAP:Exhaust manifoldIntercooler kitOil LineDown pipeand ITS Turbo.

I had to fix every single one of those parts.

The bolts that hold the turbo onto the manifold are BARELY long enough. The wastegate tube, i had to cut and angle differently so the TIAL wastegate didnt push against my A/C line.

The Downlipe had to be cut and welded at a different angle just so it would bolt to my turbo. And yes i had the on center housing, i got my turbo through IAp.

The intercooler piping sucked. I had to change all pipes except one, and it came with no mounting hardware. the intake for the turbo didnt fit. Had to cut my INJEN 90 bend to make it a 45 so it would work.

Oil line instructions were no good, had to arrange it off of the pressure sensor port a differnt way (not a big deal but at the time was icing on the cake)

Marc was friendly customer service but the product was terrible.~Sam

mmm top mount with SOHC. I remember the first time I needed to change my plugs hahahahah. Let me save you some time, go to sears and buy the spark plug tool that has the swivel/pivot on it if you don't want to take your turbo off every time you change plugs

thanks for the advice, wild_maxx brought this up too. I've been looking for an excuse to get some more Craftsman toys anyhow

Well I promised a review with pics once I got the kit installed. Here it is (car isn't running yet due to two missing parts but it's pretty much finished)

Here's what I started with. I know my engine bay is FILTHY I'm going to get some degreaser/Simple Green and go to town this coming weekend. So no crap about the dirty engine bay plz.

here's the block w/ the exhaust stripped. I went ahead and removed the AC compressor and bracket while I was at it. In the background you can see the EGR pipe. there isnt' a spot to attach it to the O2 housing so I capped it until I get more time to pull my intake plenum and clean out the EGR B.S. Also the O2 housing hits against the AC line (the one w/ the O2 harness ziptied to it) and I was forced to cut it at the firewall. This isn's a big deal to me since I removed the AC condensor when I did my electric fan install.

And the dreaded Oil return install. there was some hardware included with the kit that was intended to enable you to install the oil return line without removing the oil pan. sound too good to be true? It was for me. I tried to install it then said screw it after about an hour, took the oil pan off my spare block, mounted it to my drill press and lined out the bracket and bolted it on w/ plenty of silicon gasket. I know I should have welded it but We're out of gas for the MIG welder and don't have the right sized wire/ this should work fine for the time being. A HUUUGE thanks to my brother J.T. and good friend Wendell for all the help on this. It's a good thing I dropped the pan too. there were ALOT of shavings in it from my attempt to ½a$s the install.

here's a shot of the manifold installed. I had to relocate my ignition coil because the compressor housing hit against it when I reclocked the turbo. no big deal, just an extra 5 mins w/ the dremel.

finally turbo and O2 housing installed. I decided to wrap the O2 housing w/ fiberglass wrap since I had some laying around. I'll install a heat shield on the turbo in the near future. until then I wrapped my brake fluid reservoir w/ a few layers of fiberglass as well.

3" BRM exhaust. I got bored while I was waiting on my turbo kit so I decided to paint it flat black (with the exception of the muffler and resonator) it matches the Greddy 3" DP perfectly. The exhaust is missing a couple of hangers and the car is jacked up on one side so it's not seated correctly in this picture.

my lower hot pipe with Greddy Type S BOV

I'll get some more pictures tomorrow or Wednesday. I still need to finish installing the intercooler and putting my bumper back on. I removed my pass. fender because I kissed guard rail @ 70mph and am replacing it w/ a different one.

everything fit just fine the only problem I had was relocating the Ignition coil and it would have been cool if there was another 45 degree bend in the upper hot-pipe but it still fit fine. The install instructions did suck quite a bit but I've called Mark a couple of times and he was very kind and helpful in assisting me. I'm going to send him a few of the pictures I took so hopefully he can improve his install instructions for the future.

Overall I am very happy with the kit as of now (I have yet to drive it so I'm still skeptacle) I'll get more pictures up later this week and a driving impression. I haven't done a leakdown test on my motor because I'm at 230xxx miles right now and im in the process of rebuilding another motor to toss in.

Comments/suggestions welcomed

oh almost forgot! regarding the spark plugs I don't think I'll have much of a problem removing them w/ the swivel headed socket from Sears. my only worry is how close the plug wires for cylinder 2/3 sit to the exhaust housing.

its nice to see someone went through with this kit i ordered it but did'nt turbo my sohc. I will probly use the intercooler and piping for my ca swap even though i might have to modify it. Now i just need to sell the stuff i can't use for my ca. Good luck with the project hope it all goes well for you.
