Yesterday I witnessed the most incredible outpouring of love and support I have ever seen...
10+ NICO members rolled into the hospital room to visit Stacey yesterday, filling her room with flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, cards, gifts, and best of all love and laughter. Stories of the past few days were shared, everyone got a first-hand update, and everyone offered up their words of hope, encouragement and support
(Brian's words were especially touching: "F*** this mother****ing cancer bull****, we're gonna kick it in its f****** a** and laugh in its face, y'know?")
Stacey's periodic walking excursions up and down the hallway were accompanied by a full entourage (she calls them her "pit crew"), and the people here at the hospital are pretty certain she's something of a celebrity...
Later in the night, I go back to the house, expecting to have to leave Stacey alone for the night for the first time... The front yard is packed with Nissans, there are 20+ NICO folks there, hanging out with the NICOtots, the house is filled with food, the kids are playing video games and working on a car in the garage with the guys, the girls have straightened up the house, and a few of the guys had already planned to spend the night and keep an eye on the kids so I could come back to the hospital and help Stacey.
The fact that it's a Saturday night, and all of these people could have been anywhere but there was truly amazing.
I am humbled.
From now on, anyone who wonders, "What's wrong with kids these days?" is certainly not talking about NICO people. They are selfless and caring, plain and simple. I can guarantee you there's NO other "car club" that can boast of an experience like this.
Dammit, I love you guys.
