Post Title: Sonics opens in North Jersey, Forced to turn away customers....
Posted by: RCA at 10:51 PM 6/23/2009

A Sonic was opened in north Jersey and people flocked. Nearly a 2hr wait for fast food...This caused serious traffic on Rt. 17 and many people had to park nearly half a mile to then walk in and wait to place an order...

All that fuss over Sonic???? It's not that great (at least not here)

Wendy's ftw!!!

Sonic has AWESOME DRINKS. The food is just okay.

I still wouldn't wait in line. I go during happy hour for half off a fruit slush.

is sonics really that bad? me and my friends have been meaning to go (2hr drive round trip) and since its summer we don't really have an excuse not to...but if the food is that bad i don't think i want to waste that much gas haha

Post Title:

the food is the same as any other fast food joint except they have a decent value menu and drinks that other places don't have, plus they have been bombarding us with commercials for the past few years with the nearest one like 100 miles away.

Post Title: Re: FN-QR (ADDirishboy)

Commercials for Sonic have been on TV here in NJ for over 5 years...

And the nearest one (until recently) was in PA so this was way over due.

I will sleep outside the first WaWa that opens up near me...

But not Sonic

Wtf is a WaWa?

Even so, Wendy's pretty much pwns all fast food with its consistency. But I can't deny, an In N Out burger hits the spot sometimes when you're "in the mood."

He's addicted to Dave Thomas's meat

Well IDK if a WaWa would be considered fast food....
Its like a Quick Check or a 7-11...

But a WaWa is like walking into the best Deli, coffee shop, grocery store, sandwich shop and gas station ever combined...

they just opened up the first Sonic in NY about an hour upstate from me. i still havent made the trip, doesnt seem worth it. i'd do it for in n out burger though, that place is amazing. best burgers ive ever had when i was out in cali.

oh and about WaWa's......half the gas stations around here look like that, some better, some much better. that's nothing special.

we used to have wawa's around here. i think they're all gone. i've been curous about sonic, but not curious enough to wait in line like that, or to make a pilgrimage. we have duchess. duchess > everything.

Post Title:

Sonic is pretty good. The drinks and tater tots are what make it worthwhile. Unfortunately, the one near me screws up the order every time. Their biggest screw up was the times they gave me 4 sandwiches, 2 large orders of onion rings and 2 large fries when I order 2 kids combo meals. I tried to explain, but they didn't want to listen ... so I drove to McD's and grabbed some drinks and we ate as much as we could.

To me WaWa will always be Swanee Swifty. It's the down south version of 7-11.

Post Title:

when sonic had their 5 burgers for $5 deal, my friends and i went over there made our order, and when we got back to the house i got my burger, bit into it, and immediately noticed there was no meat in there! i wasnt mad as i probably shouldve been, i called the sonic and got it taken care off and laughed it off

Sonic isn't that great at all. Jesda said it best, good drinks are their main thing. I am a fan of the Jack in the Box but we dont' have em here. I have drove 3 hours for that lol.

They have like everything. I've only been to one though, and it was in Minnesota.

They have the usual burgers, fries, etc... But they also have fried chicken, steak, fish/shrimp, hot dogs, and even soup/salad. They have a bunch of shakes, sundaes, and cake too I think.

So yeah, EVERYTHING. I'm actually wanting to go there today. I've seen a few around here but they're across town.

How can people afford to drive that far simply to go to a fast food restaurant?

For the people here that have made road trips like that, did you do something else in the area to justify the trip?

I guess I can understand the wastefulness.

Wow...all that for a Sonic?

That place honestly sucks. Other than the fact that they sell tater tots, its not ever gonna do anything for me. That, and I grew up near them. I guess its because they hyped it up by airing commercials in areas that they didn't have them.

Tito- a White Castle? Near your house?

If there were that many people at any food establishment, why the f*** would people keep stopping? I dont care if Im going to my favorite restaraunt, if I wait more than 10 mins to be seated (unless they have a good bar), Im turning around.

No fast food is worth any wait.(hence the name) and most of the time, its not worth eating right away.

My wife passes this Sonic on the way to work and told me they've had to have police present there the past few days to direct traffic. One lane of the highway was shut down because of waiting vehicles.

Aside from the hype of a Sonic opening in NJ, that area of the state is an extremely high volume area for almost any restaurant/eating establishment that opens up there.

They're building a Sonic about 15 minutes from me, in a Walmart complex. It set pretty far off the road. Waittress service in your car hasn't been around here in a long time. I can't vouch for the food yet. We'll see.

IMHO White Castle tastes best when you're drunk as they sliiiiide down nicely. . But the #1 best fast food joint is historic Pat's steaks,
9th and Passyunk in South Philly. Nuthin burps better than a real Philly cheezesteak. (Buuuuurp, aaaah)!!

Post Title: Re: (AZ89two4Tsx)

most of you with whom are stateing that sonic blows...need to go to the one in south carolina...every weekend to every other weekend there is about a 2 to 2 1/2 hour time span where me a whole group of my boys and about 40 to 50 other people used to gather with a type of mini car show...girls n cars everywhere....the funniest part is when the old lincoln people try to drive through to eat...lmao...that place will never close...after the 2 1/2 hour time span you have to watch out though cops will break it up (nothing unusual) they allow a certain limit then after they break it up they watch cars n start pulling people over and following others....all in all it's a nice spot though...

edit...reason......not sure if it's still going at this time due to i currently live in mass...will be moveing down there in 1 month i will keep you informed to if this is still running if anyone is interested, or around the area...

The reason I care about Sonic is BREAKFAST.

They'll serve me a real fried egg sandwich. No pre-formed crap, just a real egg on actual toast.

EDIT: I had no idea that AM-PM was a US chain also, I thought it was only in Japan.

I just googled, and apparently even Family Mart is going to come here, although it'll be called "Famima". Super Cool!

I hope they have bento!

You can't go wrong with Wendy's, usually they're fresh and good. However, I love Jack in the Box sourdough jack. One of my favorite burgers there. Sonic burgers away fall apart because all of the condiments they put on the bottom bun.

Now if they opened an In N Out in Denver, I'd be there in a heart beat. Don't really care for the orange sauce they put in the burger though.

NJ Officer Recovering After Accident At Sonic's

http://wcbstv.com/topstories/o....html

Quote »
Borough police officer Corey Lange was directing traffic at the Sonic drive-in on Route 17 when, prosecutors said, he was dragged by an unlicensed driver of an Acura identified as Daniel Yi.

"The vehicle came across Route 17 northbound lanes, hit the middle divider. Another vehicle hit Mr. Yi's car pinning the officer in between the two cars," said John Molinelli, Bergen County prosecutor.

Things are getting crazy over there at Sonics

I like that look...
But is it legal to drive a pick up with out the bed???

Sure it is. You still need lights and a bumper to be legal but you can have those without a bed.

You can even buy "Chassis cab" versions of most trucks that come without a bed, ready to be fitted with whatever aftermarket bed replacement you might need.

A similar thing happened when the In-N-Out opened in St. George.

Here is a Google Map of it:

The drive through line when around the back of the huge building there which has a Best Buy, Kohls, and Bed Bath And Beyond in it. The line had over 200 cars in it and the wait was about 2.5 hours.

I try not to be a "grammar nazi" but I would of never thought I would see the day some one replaces "hours" with "ours". There and their, fine not difficult to mess up, but OURs?

Update Sonics on Rt 17 and Rt 46 both still have a police directing traffic
