Also, we just replaced the timing chains so be careful because it happens right around 60-65k miles from what I am told and it is very expensive. Let me know if you find anything out on the odometer because they want to charge me $500 to fix. Thanks!to renee, i thought these run on timing BELTS... then they need to be changed in a timely manner or the INTERFERENCE engine will bend valves when the belt breaks... on my 3.3L engine that is... 105,ooo mile interval
i dunno about the 3.5L if they switch to timing CHAINS...there should be no interval changes for a chain...
edit: you got ripped off if you changed out the timing chains on your 3.5L 2005 quest this early in the game!

| It uses a detuned Z engine of 3.5 liters and twin overhead cams. The timing belt is gone, and a chain now does the job of moving camshafts. Will our customers change the oil enough times to keep the chain in shape? Time will tell. |
keep the oil clean so the hydraulic tensioner will keep the chain "tight"
ps: also heard the rear spark plugs are a biatch for this engine

| I researched the service procedures and when the rear spark plugs were removed, it starts with "drain the coolant." I am not liking this. The rear spark plugs are now a major job, which is a real step backward. Were technicians thought of when this new van was designed? I would say no. It is futuristic but that future is not the one a technician dreams about. We want to have access to those parts that normally wear out, need replacement or service. As I have said so many times before, a little thought ahead of time would save techs time, customers service dollars, and warranty claims would be less expensive. |
