Post Title: Save the Zenki's, early model owners check in.
Posted by: FlatBlackIan at 11:43 PM 11/18/2008

So many people these days are doing conversions, and front end updates. Where is all the love for the early models.

Its time to represent.

The Japanese symbols mean "early model" which is what Zenki stands for, roughly translated.

I personally own both S13 and S14 model Zenki's and I love them both to death.

Lets hear it for the cars that came before the cars all the fanboi's love.

My S13

My S14

I could use a driver side fender, MAACO filled in the body line. Oh yeah a painted hood also.

Zenki FTMFW. Period. any zenki that has a kouki conversion is a disgrace to zenkis everywhere, owners of these cars should be ashamed of themselves if they converted zenki beauty into kouki muck, or should be seeking a retrofit back to their proper zenki form. Also is Blue Emerald Pearl, Paint Code FN2, A Limited Edition Color?

Bought my 95 in 2000. Eight years later, I still love it. 167,000 miles and still strong. Front end collision in 2003 ... added CF hood, rims, springs, H+R spacers, drilled/ dimpled rotors and steel braided lines. I still wish for a body kit, but even w/o it's still my favorite USDM style. Still workin' it.

For S13s I prefer the Zenki by far. As for the S14 its a toss up, the Kouki front end is more aggressive, but I think the Zenki front end flows with the rest of the car better.

welcome "NeedFaster240"

from what I have gathered on the intraweb....
zenki = japanese for "preceding model" or early model
pignose = what our front bumpers look like on S13 Zenkis
kouki = late model...

there are S13 and S14 Zenkis and koukis. use the search button and youll see the differences... all the cars on this post (should be) Zenki only... IE: my 1990 Zenki S13, pictured above... if your front bumper looks different, its kouki.

Anyone, please correct me.

No way man I want some glass German headlights. Those were painted like that when I got the car, and I just have a hard time scraping up nearly $500 for some headlights. I'd buy a Zenki over a Cooky anyday.

i actually do prefer the zenki S14 the S13 is a toss up but definitely prefer the S14 Zenki, i personally think it has a better flow and its in my opinion the best looking 240/Silvia made save for the S15 Spec R Aero which will always hold on to the number one in my heart

This is for USDM models.

1989-1990 240SX

Also known as pignose, or Zenki S13

Also known as Chuki, sharknose, overbite, or Kouki S13

Regarding the font choice, I would prefer something Calligraphic. Like the third one you posted, but slightly less italicized.

you know i'm right i'm not a fan of zenki s13s, s14 zenkis are alright. its fine by me if someone is proud of what they have. but to say that zenkis shouldnt be converted or that i shoudl have bought a chuki instead is kinda dumb. i know what i want my car to look like, but i happened to find a near flawless shell that was zenki, so i figured a bumper change is no big deal. besides, it'll be type x eventually anyways

Hahahaha, Had I stumbled upon a chuki as clean as your hatch, Id have been all over that. Sooner or later it would have ended up a pig though. I just prefer the edgier looks. Im an 80s styling kind of guy thats all. I have no problem with a conversion here and there, as long as they are done well.

I wanted to go 235&245 but was afraid of the "moon trooper" look, it would be better if I had coilovers.

At least I know I'm not alone. For some reason people just can't appreciate the Zenkis. I searched forever to try and find a somewhat stock s14 Zenki. I don't care what happens to the economy ill sell the DD before I would my Zenki.

Much love for the piggies too.

Who said it was a zenki to begin with, maybe it was a chuki.

That, and the S14 zenki front end was most likely removed to be replaced with a kouki, so technically he would be saving one.

Random pics over the last five years

Sweet black to chrome 20% tint

little too much speed around the corner, broke the tension rob, bent the lower arm, and snapped the tie rod, all good now

some punk asses broke my mirror off

putting a new alt and belts

after fixing the wiring problem in the driver side tail

installed LEDs in the A-Pillar and map light

light from the pulsing radio ring and the dome light

dome and map lights alone

my baby needs a garage

working on the wiring for my new 6x9's and you can see how I mounted them

installing new sway bar links, and looking over the underside

'03 when I installed my driving lights

last month I put new EL Glow gauge faces,

Earlier this week I put in a new steering wheel and am not quite finished the wiring yet and you can see the gauges glowing

haha yeah sry bout that, went a lil over board, the stereo ring is long since burnt out, and the wing will be coming off when I find a whole new lid for cheap.
There previously was a cargo rack on it so there's 22 holes in it now and I think its better that I just get a new one, and the junkyards around here are fresh outta 240sx for some odd reason

If you can weld that trunk lid would be fairly easy to fix. Little welding, grinding and fiberglassing and its done.

except for the fact i thought it be a genius idea to shoot expanding foam into the webbing on the underside of the lid to plug the holes...
IT DID, but, not the foams squeaks against the metal.
I made a test piece an nothing I used on it will eat that crap
fire will melt it right outta there, but possible warp the metal, and degrade its integrity against rust down the road

Ill post another thread for the sticker requests only, to unclutter this topic specific post. Sorry for the Threadjack flatblackian.

Can anyone please school me on zenki tail lights for the S13? I see JDM Chuki and JDM Type X but is there a Zenki JDM that is different than the USDM zenkis?

Keep the zenkis coming!!!! I think it would be a good idea for a zenki <3'r to start a zenki to chuki conversion thread, may be a good place to pick up zenki parts, hehe.

Post Title: Re: Save the Zenki's, early model owners check in. (S133P3R)
Posted by: White Comet at 8:58 PM 11/25/2008

heres a break down of the s13 hatch tail lights
1. US SPEC- normal tail lights seen on all stock hatches in the US, for both zenkis and chukis

2. JDM/EURO SPEC- exactly the same as the us spec lights but the center garnish says 180sx instead of 240sx in japan and 200sx instead of 240sx in Europe. again, no differences for zenki or chuki

(the signal section is amber stock, i just painted mine)
3. Type X- commonly referred to as kouki lights even though that isnt entirely true, seeing as not all kouki s13s had them, only the type x did.

I like all the 240's.... but have special love for my own. Especially after bringing it bad from the dead (My friend crashed his 240 like 5 years ago and was gonna junk it, I told him to give it to me instead... it spend like 2 years in a truck lot, it went through 2 hurricanes with the windshield broken, I had to replace the rad support, windshield, radiator, lights.... Most would say I was crazy for even bothering fixing that piece of junk, but in the end it was worth it, ... it's like when a chick who dresses really bad puts a real nice dress, does her hair and nice make up and your like daaaaaaaaam.......

My car is mostly stock, but if you had seen it before (wish I had taken pictures) you would say, what a difference!!!

You dont need to upload, just quote this post, and copy the URL below, then paste it into your sig. Its not only a picture, but also a link to this thread. Its clickable.

that is a very good question that i was going to bring up once I got the demos done. For my set Ill prolly make them for INSIDE my quarter panel glass on each side, so they will be cut to stick on the inside of the glass and read from the outside. Im hoping they have the damn drivers installed this week, we dont cut alot of decals so its kind of a low priority but ill work to get these done.

And a very rare, and hard to find picture of myself. Posed next to the S13 after Lake Superior Performance Rally. In the background is the Portage Lake lift bridge. I ran open downpipe on my rb20 for a straight month and nobody ever batted an eye. You could hear it from a mile away, no joke. They fit perfectly. I dont like wheels that stick out, and I would prefer not having anymore camber than I already do (-3 degrees).

I choose the wheels because they fit the flow of the car, and the price was right. The pictures do no justice. Ask one of the members who have seen it in person, it just works.

Its not a drift car, I put on around 300 miles a week during the summer on some of the worst roads in the state. I prefer to have a little tire, not only for the safety of the wheel itself, but also because I prefer the look.

So why not just save the money you used for your Chuki bumper and put it towards whatever else you wanted?

excellent suggestion, but since its only temporary i wouldn't spend money on it. i was gonna trade for one, but then got one in exchange for wiring up type x bumper lights

I second that the meisters look the best.

Post Title:

Meisters we're a really heavy wheel. About 27 lbs per wheel, but I loved the huge lip.

4" front and 4.5" rear

Fronts

Rears

The Advan RG-II's I currently have are very light compared to the Meisters and VS-XX! 18lbs a wheel!

I love how the spokes flex. Gives the car an aggressive look.

And yes that is a Greddy front lip spoiler in some of the pics. I used to run a JDM bumper with Greddy lip before I got my hands on the Navan bumper.

Hey Brian, did you ever think about getting a front grille for that S14? I know it's too late now since the car is gone but every time I see the front of that S14 I think it's totally missing something. Would have looked great with a Navan grille there. Even a 96 OEM grille would have looked pretty nice too.

Here's what she would have looked like with a Navan grille:

I'm liking it.

How wide are the cobra wheels? Do you have any rubbing on any problems?

They're both 90 models. Gold one was a base auto wheni got it now i added power locks remote start keyless security, dropped it, and manual swapped it.

Red one was a sohc pignose se non sunroof or lip. I dohc swapped it and boosted and swapped out the front bumper and dropped it a bit.

Those are actually my buddies wheels, they are OEM cobra wheels so you should be able to google the wheel sizes and offsets. I'm not sure on tire sizes but I'm thinking like 285 rear and 265 front. I would go with a slightly smaller tire myself, but the rears were only rubbing on the fender lip as far as I could tell.

I can see mustang wheels beginning to be more common as some 240 owners are opening to new ideas instead of being so close-minded about anything non-nissan. Most of them fit pretty well but not all of them look that great, but I think the cobra wheels are really cool.

BTW I completely re-did my cooling system this weekend- New radiator, water pump, thermostat, and headgasket. The Zenki should be ready for some events this summer, yay!

Before... 96 base, auto, 4 lug, front end damage

Now...5 lug, manual, front end fixed, r33 vlsd/axles, z32 front/rear brakes+ebrake, aluminum ds, freshened up ka, some suspension stuff, urethane bushings, z32tt wheels, jdm power folding mirrors... blah blah blah

picture kinda sucks but you get the idea.

Not officially mines yet but if all goes well I should have keys for it in a week or 2. :D I'm excited. Also here's a picture of my former car (I miss her).

Former Car (this is only a few days after I got her, I did not have the tools necessary to correct the previous owner's wheel mixup, the Wheel Police later ticketed me for "Failure to put on wheels right")

If all goes well I will be getting this car, car

and both of them hanging out.

If you look carefully at the front wheels you'll notice they're put on "backwards" like this <| and the rear wheels are on correctly |>. If I did my reading correct the designers of the Z32 made the wheels like that so that the wheels would funnel air onto the brake discs to cool them.

Notice how my front wheel's "vent" is like <| and my rear one is |> sorry lol it's the closest shape i can make with a keyboard to it.

I didn't even know the wheels were on wrong until I signed up on 300zxclub.com and they were like "Wheel Police" and I was like "WTFGAY" but later realized the truth AFTER my ticket :D

My S14 going bye bye forever.

Thats right, its a Chuki

To the dark side, I have crossed, make amends I must.

Its ok though, its only a matter of time before I ditch it, then its time for a pig bumper.
