When you look at the software version, it is mentioned 2007-2008.
I can't believe this.
Many roads and highways in quebec built in the last 3 years are not shown.

In my neighborhood, there are some gas stations listed but those stations do not exist anymore since at least 5 years...<

So far, I've had no problems with navigation accuracy, just across the Ottawa river in Ontario.

On a barely related note, does anyone know if there's a way to download additional destination icons for the GPS? I think they're great, but would like more variety, maybe even custom ones.

Go to Zenrin.com, it appears an upgrade will happen late 2008.

Map update will be available fall winter 2008
Information found on Zemrin site

although the things you all mention wanting are -possible- they probably won't happen.

Mainly because the headaches it would cause warranty are't worth introducing features that weren't tested at the factory. if custom icons somehow broke something....would it be right for infiniti to support/fix it?

btw, a Garmin can do that.

I do hope that nav systems evolve to something that is more of a blank computer in your car that looks integrated, but can be customized/upgraded with whatever.

To get an idea of cost. The DVD upgrade for a 2007 FX is $190.00 !

Yes its going to be ridiculous.

You'd think that paying the exorbinant price for built in nav would subsidize some of the cost for updates.

but really Garmin is no better, I think they charge $80 for their updates.

I've found some SIGNIFICANT errors in my EX35's nav maps (yes, I've reported them to Zenrin). One of the worst was when I was going to a location on a curved (horseshoe shaped) road. The intersecting road dead-ended near one end of the "horseshoe" and the location I needed to get to was at the other end of the horseshoe. No biggie there, but then the Nav system had me turn right directly into the WRONG end of the horseshoe of the target road. Just as I got to the WRONG dead-end, the Nav announced I had reached my destination. I double-checked the address and, yep, I had entered it correctly. The actual address was almost a mile away at the other end of the road. And this wasn't a new area by any means. The street has been there for at least 15 years, if not 20.

(BTW, I have subsequently returned to that location when I was in my other car using my TomTom portable GPS. It had no trouble finding the correct address.)

I've already alerted my dealer that I feel the map information contained in the EX35 is SO mistake-ridden (especially compared to my TomTom) that I feel it is "defective" and it is something that should be updated under warranty. We'll see how cooperative they are once the update is available. I'm not paying $200 to fix existing map mistakes!

Mark

The Navigation can be a headache in San Francisco. It does not know that on most streets, turning left is forbidden. The Garmin knows better.

On the other hand, the Garmin Nuvi has navigated us to a non existent gas station deep in the woods of NY and wanted to go up a road that had been closed for at least 40 years in Vermont. So, nothing is perfect.

good luck with that.

as much as I would like to believe otherwise, it is not a high priority for car manufacturers to be keeping up with all the map changes. I do agree that some stuff should be more up to date (we have 5yo POIs that aren't in the database) with Garmin and TomTom, their livelihood depends on having up to date maps.

It shocks me that after all of these years, Garmin or TomTom has not signed up a car company like XM and sirius does to provide the in car nav.

How much is 6.7 and how do you go about installing it?

I found the answer to my own question... On hard drive-based navigation systems (such as the EX35), new map data is installed using the "Consult-III" diagnostic device:

http://www.auto-diagnostics.info/nissan_consult3

So, getting a new Map DVD is useless without also having a Consult-III.

Nissan/Infiniti and the nav software providers have successfully found a way to thwart folks that are simply selling burned copies of the navigation software.

BTW, the Consult III is simply specialized software installed on a Panasonic Toughbook Windows laptop. I've found numerous references to it all over the web, including sites that sell older versions of the software to be installed on any Windows laptop. Apparently, it connects to the vehicle via the OBD port so a special cable is needed too.

If anyone comes across a site that has the CURRENT Consult-III software with appropriate cable, please let us know.

Mark

The name of the Co has been changed to from Zenrin to Navteq.

http://www.navigation.com/is-b...irect

This is sucha rip off. Note that every upgrade its USD $190.00 + whatever the Dealership will charge you to upload the new map data to your hard drive

Digging up an old topic to tell of my "luck" on the Navigation software front.

As I mentioned last July in this thread, I was VERY unhappy with the Navigation software in my EX35. Missing streets and flat out incorrect directions. I discovered this quickly after getting my EX35 in Dec '07. I was so unhappy I made an official complaint to Infiniti Consumer Affairs in January '08. That complaint just paid off!

Because I had a complaint on record from over a year ago, Infiniti Consumer Affairs has agreed to reimburse me in full for the cost of purchasing the recently released Map Update and software installation. They requested that I order the map activation code and have my dealer complete the install and, once I fax them paperwork proving I've had it done, they will refund me for all costs associated with the map update.

I am grateful to Infiniti Consumer Affairs for their excellent customer service in this matter. I can only hope the map update corrects some of the errors I've discovered.

Mark

Mark Booth and others,

Not to burst your bubble, I am in contact with CA and also the nav manufacture about the new map update. The 09 is also missing many streets. I can not find 100 streets on my 07-08. I have a case in with CA, they agreed to update my map free to 08-09. I gave them a list of 30 streets that I know exist on yahoo maps to look up on the new software. To my suprise, they can not be located them on the new updated 09.

Back to square one~~~

Good luck with that.

What is the latest on the map software update? I noticed mine was 2007-08 version also. Can/will the dealer handle the update. Thanks..

Three months ago, I got my update for 2009-2010 and it works well. The dealer did this for free. Streets are still missing.
