Post Title: Powder Coating Services
Posted by: The_Chosen_One at 12:42 PM 5/10/2008

Alright guys I got approval to start offering Powder Coating services to you guys.

To give you a little background, I do powder coating on the side for fun. I do the painting out of my buddys garage. I've been coating since October so Im still new at this but pretty much have the hang of it.

To give you a run down of my prices for valve covers I usually charge a $15 per cylinder fee so 4 clynders are $65 Shipped. But the more cylinders the cheaper it will be. These prices are usually for Single Stages, Multiple stages are $10 extra which require a Base Coat and Top Coats.

Im very flexible on prices so if your on a tight budget I can work with you to try and get you covered.

I do offer warranties on the coatings which is 60days.

Because I do this for fun/side I only powdercoat on certain days, which are Tuesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays. I try to get them done as soon as I can but since I work at another job I may sometimes be called in. But I'll try to get everything done in a timely manner usually within the week of arrival.

Just a few examples that I've done in the past.

These are single stages, they vary from wrinkle, to mirror gloss, flats, etc etc.

These are considered Multiple Stages.

I'm no whiz when it comes to painting, especially powder coating. But IIRC, it has to be a metal object, correct?

I would like to get my engine cover painted, but it's plastic... So is this something that can be powdercoated?

If not the plastic, what about the top half of a plenum? It's aluminum...

Post Title:
Posted by: The_Chosen_One at 5:09 AM 6/15/2008

Yea it has to metal, there is research on having a low temp powder to do plastic but not available yet.

For the plenum if it fits your standard kitchen oven than I can coat it.

Julian, thank you!

Depends on the motor. If its for a SOHC or s13 DOHC than for an extra $15 I can purchase one for you. But if its like SR, RB, S14 DOHC than you'll have to send it in.

I can do a blue wrinkle. Are you looking for a dark blue, light blue?

$30 but the TB has to be disassembled. If I remember correctly the TB has a plastic bearing that will melt when baking.

Closest I can get to that color is this.

As for price its $45 Shipped plus $10 to order the wrinkle blue. So $55 Shipped.

ok sounds great.. now i just gotta find a S14 valve cover

Post Title:
Posted by: The_Chosen_One at 7:20 AM 7/2/2008

My friend asked me to make something on the wild side. I had a hard time coming up with a scheme. So I figured trying a 2tone.

I must say this cover was the MOST pain in the ***, I've never been so frustrated on a cover like this one. Overall Im happy with the concept its not perfect but overall Im pleased. The masking on this was ridiculous I think im gonna use painters tape next time instead of this crappy powder coaters tape.

This is a cover I did for a friend as well. I was having such a bad day with applying multiple coats so I had to shoot the pink when the cover was hot. This poses a problem of the powder hardening before I can wipe off the letters.

Post Title: Re: (The_Chosen_One)
Posted by: Warped161 at 2:21 PM 7/2/2008

nice the two tone is kinda hot

Post Title:
Posted by: The_Chosen_One at 5:05 PM 7/2/2008

You should see it in person, the sparkle is ridiculous. I did like 2 coats of the clear coat with sparkles. Its ridiculous my friend is extremly happy.

However I dont think I'd want to do it again. I've never been so agitated coating a cover like I was with this cover.

Yea unfortunatly the other side doesnt look to good :/ I didnt let the acetone dry up and well it bubbled so I gotta redo it. But I just wanted to see the color. Glad you like the color.

The red SOHC ka cover is gorgeous! how much to have my throttle body, intake plenum, valve cover, and fuel rail all done. single coat.

Dang you do some extrodinary work my friend... Why is this only a month special? I just painted my VC b/c I couldn't find anyone to powdercoat it... I get paid sat... lol And unfortunately thats the 12th.... I've got some other thing's i'd like done as well. I love this one....

If it had the letters wiped clean that would be sweet!

Post Title:
Posted by: The_Chosen_One at 7:51 PM 7/6/2008

Yea that was the first thing I ever powdercoated so I had no idea how to make or anything, it was done for a personal friend.

Dont worry man I'll still hook you up. What other things do you wanna get coated?

Post Title: Re: (The_Chosen_One)
Posted by: cmoody2006 at 10:35 PM 7/6/2008

Well I like how that thermostat housing turned out as well. Can you do the intake manifolds for the ka24de? I have mine off right now and it looks like total arss... Also can you do the throttle body on the dohc? or will it melt that piece you were talking about...? Could you also hook me up with that same kind of powder coating on my valve cover? I just want the intake mani a grey color or silver with like a glossy finish to it not the wrinkle effect...

Post Title:
Posted by: The_Chosen_One at 2:14 AM 7/7/2008

I can do the Intake manifolds, they break into 2 pieces so it will make it easier.

As for the Throttle body. If you can disassemble it than I can coat it. If I remember correctly the TB has a plastic bearing that will melt. If the TB was 100% metal than there would be no problem.

So you wanna do a Black chrome which is the color of that thermostat housing. I can do that for you. If you can disassemble the TB than $170 Shipped. If you cant $140 Shipped.

I have a couple motorcycle parts that I would love to send you! (I am repo's little brother) I saw the single cam valve cover and thats how I feel about it. SO... here is a pic of what I would send you. It is a trim ring and a cast metal piece. Both are currently chrome (there's chrome under the black paint, but the black paint was removed). There are little red arrows in the pic but they are somewhat hard to see. I would request flat black for the projector surround and black chrome for the trim ring. And depending on price, I would send the handlebar your way for some black crinkle. I'd love to know how much and how fast! Thanks.

Modified by Simmsled at 3:45 AM 7/10/2008

Post Title:
Posted by: The_Chosen_One at 7:41 PM 7/9/2008

I'll have to ask the pros on the powder coating forum on how to do the chrome parts. In order to get a good coat it has to be bare metal however chrome can be powdercoated no problem just want to make sure its not a problem down the road.

With Handle bars $70 Shipped, without $40 Shipped.

I just got some flat black in a few days ago :p

Turn around time is usually a week plus shipping time.

Post Title: Re: (The_Chosen_One)
Posted by: Simmsled at 7:47 PM 7/9/2008

Awesome. Let me know if I should have these things sand blasted to get rid of the chrome. It is not that big of a deal for me to go get em stripped.

Post Title:
Posted by: The_Chosen_One at 7:48 PM 7/9/2008

If you can the chrome stripped cleaning than your price is $45 Shipped.

How much for rb26 pieces.. timing cover, cam gear back cover, timing gear front cover, valve covers, and the spark plug cover..

I am seeking the maroon texture you have on your sig... but particularly the intensity that is shown on the bolt hole of that ecu...

$150 Shipped for all the pieces.

How close could you get to this (It's Duplicolor metal cast orange):

Let me know!

Also would this be achievable with a 1 or 2 stage powder?

Oh and one last thing... What's the progress in getting better equipment and doing other things than valve covers?

The closest I can get to that is either candy orange or candy burnt orange. I'd probably say Candy Burnt Orange.

Im not limited to types of object Im just limited to space. Trust me I would love to do bigger stuff but the required oven costs about $3000-$10000. If it fits your standard kitchen oven and is metal I can coat it.

I have a set of Aluminum 300zx front calipers (2 halves per caliper for 4 parts total) I'd like coated. They're fully assembled off of a junk yard car, I'm going to pull them apart but I think they'd probably need to be sand blasted before they could coated.

I'd love to do that calipers in red with the "NISSAN" lettering in black. Is that possible/difficult? If it's a pain just red with bare metal lettering is fine.

1. Do you have the ability to sand blast stuff or would I need to have that done before shipping?

2. How much to paint the two calipers?

What kind of red you lookin for? Candy Red, Mirror Red? I can try doing the Black Lettering. Havent done raised letters in a different color but Im sure I could pull it off, although I think Red with Chrome/Brushed aluminum would look better

I actually have a order that im doing Z32 brakes and the customer wants me to do it in a 2 tone color so it'll give me a chance to experiment.

Eventually I would like to powder coat my z32 calipers, front and rear, a glossy black. Right now they are painted red, but it is chipping cause they had a leak and I was very messy when I bled them (my first time). My question is, if you powder coat the calipers, will they glossy black chip off? or will it be on the calipers preety good?

Post Title:
Posted by: The_Chosen_One at 12:52 PM 10/21/2008

Powder Coating is one of the most durable coatings. When done correctly a powder coated object can withstand a 3ft drop without chipping. However though solvents can break down powder coating.

To answer your question yes powder coating will be on there pretty good, it bonds to the metal.

I saw Z32 Calipers in your gallery how much does a caliper cost to coat and does it need to be disassembled?

P.S. After the holidays I have a valvecover for a DOHC KA. I like that golden yellow on your gallery pics that's on the SOHC cover. Hopefully sending Z32 brakes afterwards for the same color.

I know that is some quality artwork just a layout and general color reference I do like that yellow in the gallery tho...

I dont think im gonna do anymore brake calipers. I think im just gonna stick to Valve Covers and small items like brackets etc.

I didn't have much fun doing the Z32 calipers. Plus with Valve Covers I get to do crazy stuff.

Which Gold SOHC cover were you talking about? The KA SOHC or the Honda SOHC?

Post Title: Re: (The_Chosen_One)

KA SOHC it seemed a bit more golden yellow not lemonade yellow... LOL

The yellow in my MS Paint drawing is close to what I want.

Valve covers look amazing by the way.

Interested in a powdercoat job for my wifes rb valve covers. I see that you have a rainbow flake color with a black base. Can we have that done in another base color? Also how much would it be for the powder coat job as technically its 2 valve covers?

Post Title:
Posted by: The_Chosen_One at 2:06 PM 1/3/2009

I charge $85 Shipped for RB covers and $30 more for the timing cover.

That black with the rainbow is called Prismatic Black the rainbow is built into that color. I checked with my supplier they dont sell it another base color nor in a additive form. I can do a clear coat in rainbow sparkles but it wont give that color changing effect.

I'm your guy. I charge $65 Shipped. My price includes prep/shipping/and painting.

I appreciate the gesture of offering to sand blast, but I would advise not sand blasting a valve cover especially if the baffles are rivted and can't be removed. The reason for this is that the blast media will make its way into the baffles and make it increasingly difficult to remove. You dont want it to be floating around in your oil eating up your bearings.

For valve covers I use a chemical stripper to remove all coatings and get it down to bare metal, the leftover chemical gets burnt off in the oven when baking. I'll run it on a Wire Brush wheel to get what the stripper couldn't get.

Post Title:
Posted by: Logan76 at 6:39 PM 2/14/2009

oh snap, its 65 shipped? damn thats a good price, im removing the baffles before I send you it, I guess I have to get my nipples for my catch can welded on too, hah i forgot about them. Ill E-mail you when im ready, but you for sure have my business. thanks for the quick response.

Well I was considering sending you my valve covers and timing cover, and just letting you go wild on them. Just do whatever you want, make them awesome as hell. The car will be going to NOPI in Atlanta this year, and I would be happy to whore out your work like crazy.

I mean, I was supposed to do this a long time ago, right? Well in a week my car will finally be apart long enough to have it done. The paint that's on there is chipping, dull, and faded.

My only request would be that somewhere on there you used some of that awesome black that I made you buy way back when and then never sent you my valve covers to use it on.

Technically yes you can powder coat the exhaust manifold, unfortunately it will flake off from the intense heat. However you can get whats called Ceramic Coating, this actually improves performance and gain a little extra horsepower.

On a note the more parts you have me coat the more discounts you get.

Here are the prices for each item I charge.

Valve Cover $65
Intake Manifold $70
Intercooler Piping $20 per section
Thermo. Housing $10
Ecu $30
Small Brackets $10 a piece.

Since I dont know how many pieces you have for the brackets and intercooler piping. Once I know I can give you a discounted price.

Post Title: Re: (The_Chosen_One)
Posted by: S13xCrazy at 6:44 PM 3/29/2009

I'll have to check on the brackets, but we'll just exclude that for now.
So let's figure valvecover, intake manifold, ecu, 5 intercooler pipes, and the thermo housing.

can i get a price with you stripping them down to metal, and then one with me stripping them down to metal?

Post Title:
Posted by: The_Chosen_One at 6:56 PM 3/29/2009

Alright the new price break down.

Valve Cover $50
Intake Manifold $60
ECU $20
Intercooler $15 per piece so $75.
Thermo. Housing FREE

Total $205 Shipped.

If parts stripped already $165.

What color you plan on doing?

the DOHC is short and says "Nissan Twin Cam 16 Valve" on 1 side and has spark plug holes down the middle.

the SOHC is very tall and says "2400 12 Valve" down the middle in a block with a bunch of lines running down the middle. Says Nissan near the rear exhaust side of the cover. Has no spark plug holes.

Sorry but I don't understand what exactly you wrote.

The pic is very blurry. Is it a textured black like a wrinkle black? Or you looking for something slightly flat and slightly glossy.

And what do you mean by outline of a decal on the side? Are you saying you want a decal put on and spraying so that it leaves a outline?

Post Title: Re: (The_Chosen_One)
Posted by: rootS13 at 8:34 PM 6/23/2009

Unfortunately, I dont have my car with me right now, and thats the only sample that I have of the color that I want. Its a charcoal color... sort of a greenish-black with some flakes on it.

And yes I want an outline of a decal that I will provide to be put on the top of the valve cover... on the opposite side of where the "Nissan Twin Cam
16-Valve" is.

Let me know.

I live in BC, canada.. would you be able to do ca valve and spark plug covers?
i like the sparkly black and rainbow sparkles one... and i was also thinking almost mint green for the valve covers, and like violet for the spark plug cover.. like a softer version of the hulk..
*tokes..*

Yes I can, just remember shipping to Canada can be a little bit hefty I think around $30-$40 for that large of package/weight.

This is our Mint Green

this is Surf Green

This is called Purple Wave.
