Official submission thread for 2009 Vert Calendar

I need everyone’s help to get our 2009 NiCO Vert calendar together! First things first, we need pictures for the monthly features!

I want everyone to submit the best pictures of your car in this thread (resized to 800x600).

Let’s lay down some ground rules:

1. This is for members of our forum only. If the car belongs to someone and they aren’t a member here, it won’t be accepted.

2. Pictures need to be as large as possible and have the highest resolution possible. The bottom line is we’re not going to print crappy pictures – no matter how awesome the car might be. We prefer quality pictures over heavily modified cars.

3. You must use your own pictures or have permission from the photographer to use someone else’s picture of your car.

4. No large watermarks or tags. If you’re using a picture taken by a professional photographer or something along those lines (including copyrighted material), please ask that they use a smaller tag. We don’t mind them taking credit for their excellent pictures, but we also don’t want to provide them with a bunch of free advertising.

5. All submissions must be posted by Friday, October 31, 2008 at 11:59.59pm EST. Anything after that will be excluded from the running. Do not submit pictures if you do not have large, high resolution versions of the pictures you are submitting. I do not want the process to be delayed because we have pictures that won’t work. Again, we want this to look good.

6. After a submission has been made, you will have 3 days to send the large, high-res pictures to [email protected]. If they are not received within 72 hours of the time of submission, you will have to resubmit. Make sure you get everything in within the allotted timeframe.

7. Minimum size for pictures sent to me are 8.5"x11" at 200dpi (1700x2200 pixel). If they're smaller than this, the picture is going to look crappy. Remember, we want quality photographs.

I think that should cover everything as far as rules. Now here’s what I need with each submission:

1. Three of the most excellent pictures of your vert. Pick three pictures that best convey your car’s purpose and what you’ve done to make your car unique. For example, if you race your vert, get a shot of it in action for the main picture, then maybe an action shot from building the car as well as a picture of your engine bay or something like that. If you’re into style and stereo, get a picture of your car hardparking as well as a picture of your sound system and then maybe a picture of your car cruising. If you have no idea what to submit, just submit 5-6 pictures and my editorial team will pick something for you.

2. Provide information about the car: Obviously, we know it’s a vert and that kind of makes the year make and model unnecessary. Give a mod list including swaps (engine/transmission), conversions, body kits, wheels, suspension, or anything you think stands out.

3. Provide your personal information: Name, age (this will be interesting), Nico ID, City, State, and anything else you think is important. Depending on what kind of submissions we get and what we can put together, I’d like to incorporate all of these things into the calendar. I have a grand scheme all ready in mind and would love to pull it off if I get the cooperation I need. If all else fails, we can still do a plain calendar that will still be cool.

Once the deadline has passed, we will take one week to let everyone vote for the top 12 cars to be used as the monthly features. We’ll figure out how to do that as the time approaches.

I have an idea for the cover too and am going to ask for your help on that as well in the next few weeks!

Also, is the sky really that color or was that PSed? I ask because every time I see CSI Miami, everything looks like that. I figure it's just special effects... The sky is always gray up here... LOL.

I'm just glad it's motivating people to get their cars done.

But guys, don't break yourselves or starve your children or cash in your annuity just to get your car in the calendar. There's always next year!

But just so you know, the vert forum is HUGE on project cars, so we might run something with a not-finished car... hmmm... in fact.... that gives me an idea for the cover....

Finish shouldn't matter. If it's unique and has some character, it should be in calendar. Good example is jrsink's s13.4 and startbuck's fully caged s13. I love their aggresive look. It doesn't have to be super clean and in show car condition. Am I right, Dex?

The bottom line is don't hesitate to submit pictures of your vert! We all know how it is because 90% of us have been up to our eyeballs in a vert project.

But yeah, a car doesn't need to be all sparkly and pristine to be calendar worthy - this ain't some ricer magazine sponsored calendar! This is the Nico Vert Members' calendar. I'd love to see a beat up track slut vert or a vert completely stripped down and on jackstands with sparks flying all over or something of the sort.

Guys, I have a little problem. I don't know squat about taking pics and don't have a real good camera. could anybody look at the shots I took today and see if any could be edited or fixed up to make a good submission. (besides Dexter, I all ready e-mailed him and asked)

We'll get there. I'm going to get the car out next weekend when the fall foliage is in full color. Then i'll get some nice pics and see if I can get them online.

I'm not so sure I'll even make the calender.. there are a ton of fantastic cars on this site. We'll let the group decide.

Bill, your pictures are sweet, except that front license plate on the red one... looks buck-toothed with that thing on there... LOL. I'll see if our photo-shoppers can edit that out. I'll email you to let you know what pics I want.

Everyone who's making submissions, don't forget that I need your information as well: name, Nico name, city, state, mod list. Stuff like that.

Also, if you want to see some cars in particular in the calendar, like Greg, or Mickey, or JrSink, post nominations with their screen names. If they don't show up within a week or so, I'll have my editorial team track them down and let them know that they're wanted. However, if they don't send me pictures, they won't be in the calendar. That's just the way it has to be. PLEASE don't bombard them with emails and messages yourselves. We'll contact them. Unless, of course, you know them pretty well, then give them a little nudge or something.
