when the powersteering pump on my es300 was just about done for, it started to make a whining sound. maybe you could look into that.

Does it do it at idle? Or is it under load during driving conditions.

Need more details to help.

i could of sworn i covered this...after it warms up lets say 5 or so minutes it starts whining...like i said with the power steering belt off so that means power steering pump is not working...this is driving me crazy i cant point nothing out but the turbo maybe going out...i need more insight on this from people who have more experience with sr motors but all the forums are slow on response or people dont want to post...post if you have any ideas at all thanks

if your not too worried about your belt. try thisyou say it doesnt whine at idle right? get a penny or something and place it in the throttle plate so that it's above idle grab a can of wd-40 or other type of oil-based lubricant, while its idling spray each pulley one at a time listen to see if the whine stops, if it does then you've found the problem, if it doesnt move onto the next pulley. but don't spray the alternator, idk what would happen but it cant be good.

Could just be a loose belt too.

I'm trying to rule things out. It could be a billion things.

Does it do it at idle? Does it does while you driving under load? Or does it during both?

Can you tell if the whine is coming from any particular side?

Note: I had a whine coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. I heard it under light load starting at about 3000 RPM. I heard it most often coming off the freeway. Replaced my alternator, now it's gone.

After the car is warmed up, or after driving it and it makes that sound, park the car and have someone gas it a bit with their foot on the brake (putting load on it). Open the hood and check to see where the sound is coming from. Alternators can whine when they are going bad. Have the alternator checked out, and/or perform a voltage check. Turbo bearings can do this too ... any exhaust smoke??? Since you already ruled out belts, it's not the power steering. Is the temperature okay? Check the water pump. Are you certain it's from the front (sounds can echo or carry) ... check the fuel pump too.

Good luck with it; I know first hand this stuff can drive you batty!
