Thermostat temperatures

1990 240sx. Should I buy a cooler one for the summer and a 195 degree for the winter? That's how it worked on the old camaros.Or should I keep a 195 degree in there all the time?

If you are running a stock engine i would say just stick with the 195 degree thermostat.

(D-Sport magazine) had a great article about this subject...they ran a few test's with cooler thermos and hot thermos on a dyno...result was hotter engine temps when controlled produce more power...this makes perfect sence and heat transfer is how horsepower is created...so its really a prefrence that up to you as a tuner...i do recomend reading that article online from the D-Sport website if ya can find it..

I was wondering what temp is OEM.

According to my source the OEM thermostat opens at 170 degrees F.

Hmmmm 170 sounds low though. NOX is cleaner at higher temps.

I'm going to try the 195 the next time I have a day to pull apart the top of the engine...

The thermostat is buried under the steering pump in a SOHC
