Well, for me anyway ... hehe ... well, now that I got your attention. Take a look at this, aint it pretty?!

Okay, okay it's not a 'new' mod. In fact, I'm going back to the belt driven clutch style fan in place of my dual electric Flex-a-Lite units that went bad. My buddy has a KA spittin' 700+HP with no issues using the stock fans. Shoud've just not wasted the money in the first place. Did that mod over five years ago and they had replacement warranty then for units less than a year old. I don't even think the car had 2000 miles on it with these pieces of crap. Eh, I look at it like this, if the engine's spinning so is the fan and thus you're cooling. It's unnerving to watch your temp gage crawl upwards all because the electric motors crapped out. Flex-a-Lite can Flex-a-Bite me.

people are foolish to spend the money on complex e-fans/controllers/relays.

Yep. I got sucked into the beauty of it. A buddy of mine more experienced with the 240's performance (aka Mr. 700+HP guy) tried to tell me all those years ago. But NOOOoooo, I wouldn't listen. Hahahaha, hell in reality, I can't even stand the huge gaping hole between the front of the engine and the radiator by removing the shroud/fan assembly in the first place.

hey if it works, it works. I removed my clutch fan, but I put the dual altima fans in, not the flex-a-lite. They work without a problem, considering they were like 30 bucks. I removed the clutch fan because I was bored, not because I thought it was useless

my current car is the first one that i've kept the clutch fan on after doing the swap (out of 4 SR's total)...and i love it. took me a while to source the shroud...but now i have two (always looking ahead to the next car).

for the clutch fan.

to whoever tattoo's it on their forehead.

Yeah I agree with this one. Though I replaced mine because after a fender bender a couple of tabs broke on the shroud and the clutch fan decided to eat the electric condenser fan. but yeah I kinda miss it

I put it a 14 and a 10 inch fan and the 14 died now running only off of the 10

I like my flex a lite fans, haven't had a problem and been running them for years. I think I changed mostly because they are not as loud and it frees up the front of the engine making it easier to work on.

My flex a lite fans went bad too, I bought a new module from Jegs http://www.jegs.com/i/Flex-a-l...02/-1 , they work great now. Think the module that comes with it is just a pos that stops workin after a while i had the same lil black box

electric fans are nice, not that i hate the clutch fan, but electric fans are adjustable and it frees up tons of space and makes it easier on whoever is working the engine, even changing headlight bulbs is easier! Down with the CLUTCH FANS LOL but IMO the shroud i think is very helpful.

So I finished the conversion back to the clutch and cooling fans. Ran the car up to operating temp while at idle with the AC on. Then ran it a few times up and down the street. It ran good with no heat issues, however the cooling fan never did kick on. I'll keep an eye on it, but no problems so far. In fact, I think the engine bay even looks more 'together' with the shroud back in, lol!

i just dont like how clutch fans make your car sound like an airplane taking off.... and they rob power.... but to each his own.

The Flex-a-Lite dual fans were actually louder when they kicked on. And as for robbing power? Well that would be negligible ... at least on my car.

I can only hear my exhaust when driving my car, and my old e-fan was louder than my clutch fan.So it's not an issue for me.

lol well it could be argued that the extra drag from the electric fans through the alternator blah blah blag....

im shakey on e fans cuz my camaro with a 4 row radiator would run hot in traffic with the advanced auto 1300cfm fans... two of em...

so im more inclined to get something more proven to work... right now i have no shroud and just the condensor fan and it works so i ono....

I'm a little confused. Is it me, or did you just contradict yourself? LOL! All in good humor my friend.

For years I have only used the auxiliary stock fan for the a/c and have had no issues with overheating. Granted, I don't run A/C, so I've never had to worry about those hot summer days and overloading my system. But I have my fan hooked up to a factory temp switch from an 89-90 S13 in the lower rad hose. Works very nicely and is a very clean alternative to using flex-a-lites.

... Anyway, maybe a flex fan is an alternative for you? Not the electric; the clutch fan replacement variety. I've had them in few other cars from my past. Should help soothe the ears.

I think it's safe to say that nothing is 'fail safe'. What I did not want to do is install a cheaply made electric fan again. So I'm opting back to the original design of the clutch fan/electric cooling fan assembly that has been proven to cool effectively in a few friends 240's, two of which are running much higher HP and temps and are driven hard. So far so good with the clutch fan. Funny how it's the OEM electric cooling fan that is giving me trouble now!

lol ill prolly be sourcing some altima fans or something to that matter.... the FC guys are always getting ford tauras and crownvic e-fans or something like that.... i know from my experience as a technician that ford fans move tons of air... but they need heavy gauge wiring and relays...

btw flex fans scare me... i accidentally got hit by one moving.... stupid. didnt do anything but black and blue my hand but yea.. and have you seen one explode....

I'm pretty sure the guy around here with a mid-500HP KA-T is running a clutch fan. I'll be staying that route in the future when I make some power.
