Hello all. I'm in desperate need of a project! I was planning on doing an m45 v8 & trans into a 1st gen Q45 (may still do it in the near future) but I stumbled across a rare 4x4 SUV with a dead ford motor (would have removed it anyways) but the truck is in excelent shape in and out... and I thought it would be interesting to swap an rb neo engine. A few concerns/questions i have are the lower torque issue cuz this is a heavy huge suv similar to the range rover. Also, can i use the skyline automatic transmission? Or should i use a different automatic trans like from an exterra? What work would be involved in both options? What transfer case can i use? Finally, what engine mods would be required to make the engine work in a heavy suv and possible some offroad use? thanks

Edit:

I'm starting to consider using a vq, vh, or vk engine instead since parts and trannies/stansfer cases are more easily available and installed. Plus those engines are aluminium and not heavy iron like the rb

I'll forgo all the "you better have a retarded amount of money" statements since that should be more than obvious, and ignore asking how would you plan on keeping the AWD. Are you really considering an n/a 2.5L for an SUV as a good option?

Yes, i do intend to power an suv with 2.5... I'm not trying to use the skyline's awd (this is a 4x4 off roader) but I'd like to use as many skyline components as possible. There are already some nico members who have swaped rb engines into their nissan patrol's (large suv, bigger than an escalade) but this vehicle comes with a compatible nissan transmission whereas mine doesnt. I'm not worried about cost, the only cost to me would be the parts

actually some of the patrols came with a RB30 from the factory.

p.s. youre crazy for even considering a NA rb25. that thing is gonna be slower than a 1.3l geo metro.

If it already has a dead ford engine in it. You are probably better off keeping it in the ford family and finding something that is close to bolt-in.

What SUV is it? SBF motor?

personally, if you have the money for it..id say go all out and get your hands on a TB48DE out of the nissan patrol...throw a turbo on that bad boy and love life.

OP--again, you still haven't answered the only question I asked. Are you planning on keep this an N/A 2.5L???

Yeah i would definitely toss in a turbo or two to whatever engine i choose. I did consider using a nissan diesel but i couldn't find one in the usa (i'm huge on ebay). At the end of the day, i'd like to use nissan drivetrain after all that's why i'm a nico member I just like this suv because it's rare and exotic but doesnt use exotic drivetrain so it won't be "tainted" by swapping it
