i have a 2001 i30 with 135k miles on it. i just bought it a few months ago and the CEL came on a few weeks ago. i had the codes pulled and it came back with P1440, P1448, & P0455. they are the EVAP system. i talked to a service tech at the infiniti dealership and he said that the EVAP Canister, Evap Solenoid, and gas cap need replacing. i was wondering if anyone has had these problems? how hard is it to change them out yourself? is the dealer accurate with this? i really don't want to spend $200 for a diagnostic. from my understanding its right under the car back by the rear tires by the fuel tank. any help with the is appreciated.

All of the fault codes point to a leak in the EVAP Canister Purge System. The problem may be as simple as a leaking Fuel Filler Cap. Open the filler cap and check its condition - crack/etc. Also check the filler neck and remove any corrosion, if applicable. Make sure the filler cap is an OEM one as after-market cap may not seat properly, causing the leak. It's possible that PO bought an after-market cap.

If the cap and filler neck are OK, then check all the tubings/hoses connected to the EVAP canister (located at the rear, driver side, between the fuel tank and filler cap. Look for crack, blockage or loose fitting, especially for the EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve, and fix as required. Make sure you take note of the connection of each tube before doing any disconnection (take picture, if possible).

If problem persisted, probable cause are as follows:-EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve-EVAP Control System Pressure Sensor & circuit-Water Separator-Vacuum Cut Valve

Refer to the FSM (Factory Service Manual) provided by 'tiger,' EC-564 (Engine Control System) and EC-531 for additional info.

Are you cramming gas into your tank when u fill up? From whatI understand you should not overfill because the gas could goback into the evap canister

i did the first time i filled it up, just trying to get it to an even dollar, but it overflowed. since then i've only filled it up to when it clicks. would or could the gas still be in there from the one time, if it even got in there.

Try what Loystock says above then clear the code. If the condition returns then you should get it fixed. The unburned fuel can damage your cat converter if it gets in it from what I have read about this

Just to be on the safe side, check and see if your EGR valve is working
