You won't get them the same color as your low beams because aftermarket conversion kits don't come in 4300k AFAIK. If you want them to match you'll have to replace the low beams with the same color temp. You would perform it like any normal halogen to HID conversion. Add in the ballasts and lamps and your set, it should be fairly straight forward.funnyman82 wrote:Hey all,
Is it possible to change the stock fogs on the 2002 QX4 to make them HID similar color to the stock headlights? If so, how would I start?
Thanks!
Where did you find a 4300K kit? Most of the resellers I've seen go from 3000K-5000K. How the kit so far? Any failures?01-QX4 wrote:As like everyone here mentioned, you probably won't get an EXACT color match with your headlights, but it will come close. I have done this to mine (replace the foglights with HIDs). I used a color temp. HID kit that is 4300k which is pretty close to the headlights.
I've bought kits from HID Guy. If you want them to match exactly you can buy D2R low beam globes from the same supplier. Usually you can get a pair of lamps for $35-$55. I trust HID Guy because they test every kit before it goes out so chances of DOA are less likely. Quality control seems to be a issue with many of the HID kit resellers, most likely because they're Chinese made and not tested. I've got over 200K miles on my stock HID lamps and they're still working great, I doubt you'll get that out of a Chinese aftermarket kit.funnyman82 wrote:thank you for your reply. where would i be able to buy a kit like this? and if i were to just change the low beams would i just need to get bulbs or is it more to that?
sorry but i am a noob at this..
thank you!
Billy, the place where I bought the kit is no longer in business. As far as failure...it hasn't happened YET (I'm keeping my fingers crossed). I had these on my QX4 for 3 years now, and not a hiccup. I use my QX4 on dark mountain roads and the snow country. You mentioned you only find that most resellers only carries 3000k-5000k. Any 3000k you will have a yellowish hue to it like a very high output yellow foglights. A 5000k is kind of an weird output, because any company that manufactures/carries them probably had some HID bulbs that they were made trying to produce a 4300k or 6000k kit, but it happened to be somewhere in between. IMHO, a 4300k HID kit gives the absolute best performance interms of light output. A 6000k kit gives more of a blueish hue to it which I find alot of people like mainly because of looks, but you will somewhat suffer interms of performance. Anything above a 6000k such as 8000k, 10000k, etc., I myself tend to stay away from because to me it very blue and doesn't give you much of light output. I've experienced and use to sell HID kits when they were first being made way back in the mid 90's. Here are a few places I found that carries 4300k HID kits >>> http://www.carhidkits.com/xeno....html and here http://www.tophidkits.com/4300khidkits.htmlEmpty V wrote:

I'm not sure which site I would buy from, but if I had to choose I would choose the first one I've listed >> http://www.carhidkits.com/xeno....html On the TOPHIDKITS website's kit is seems more trouble than it's worth. I only listed these sites more or less for reference to some 4300k HID kits.funnyman82 wrote:which site do you recommend to purchase the HID kit from? The fog lights are H3 i believe. Should I go with 4300K or 6000K for the best look?
On the TOPHIDKITS website, they mention you must first assemble everything without the relay and then disconnect and add the relay. Why do they say this?
Thank you for all your help!
I didn't take any pictures of the install process if that's what you're look for, but if you're looking for pictures of them currently installed I can take some of them when I have time.funnyman82 wrote:01-QX4, do you have any pics of your install?
Thanks.
Is it "required"? I'd say no...funnyman82 wrote:is a relay required for the QX4 hid fogs?
Stock is 4300K but HID lamps change color and light output over time. If you replaced one of your stock lamps you'd probably see a big difference from the old one. Plus no 2 bulbs are identical. You can have 10 lamps all lined up and chances are none of them will read the same exact color temp on a meter.funnyman82 wrote:Hey all,
I installed my 4300k HID fogs and they do not look like my stock HID low beams....
what K is the originals???
yes you do. the bulb is inside the housing and there's 3 wires coming out to attach to the ballast. without the hole, you have no way of connecting to the ballast.funnyman82 wrote:do i have to make a hole in the fog light casing to make this work?
