I use synthetic, I was wondering when (how many miles, intervals) does everyone like to get their oil changed?

Thanks

Seeing you have a M45, there will be some oil consumption issues (and synthetic will not help). So, between 1500-2000 miles, you would need to add 1 qt of oil to bring it to top. So, I normally change the oil when it get close to low again. So, it would be between 3-4k miles, sometimes, it will go to 5k miles, which would still be OK, as long as the change interval is less than 6 month.

If you do not drive much, then, I would change it at least every 6 month - even using Synthetic.

I do not have oil consumption issues. I try to have the oil changed around every 3500 miles (non synthetic).

Lucky you (About oil consumption)!

3500 miles sounds about right, but it won't hurt to extend it to 4-4.5k miles.

Lots of threads on this topic.

My suggestion: change the oil and filter every 3750 miles or less ... whether you use synthetic or dino oil is not a factor then. If you can afford using synthetic for this OCI, then fine! Otherwise stick with a good dino oil and you will be good too.

I use Mobil 1 0W-40 every 3750 miles, but there are other equally good or better synthetics available too.

If I were going to use dino, I would use either Castrol GTX 5W-30 or Chevron Supreme 5W-30. But, again, any good reputable dino oil will be perfectly fine with a short change interval like 3750 miles!

So, you think the oil change should be strictly based on miles driven - even if that means change oil every 2.5 month or every 2 month, consider some of us drives a bit more?

Changing a full synthetic oil before 5000 miles or 90 days{whichever comes first} buys you nothing in extended engine life- and the above numbers are extremely conservative.

Mobil 1 10w 30 every 3k.

Yup! "Clean oil is the best oil".

now people on the other thread under "oil filters" are saying they change their oil every 7,500 or 15,000 miles which just seems nuts! But I do think the change every 3,000 miles thing is kinda bs! just for quick lubes and jiffy lubes to get more business! just my opinion tho. I live in Iowa and the winters suck here, so Im going to go with Mibil 1 0w-30

Actually - the dumpy dino oils kinda do need to be changed especially in extreme conditions cars today are put under. It's not a bad idea if that's the case. Once you start using oils with different additives packs you can essentally not have to change the oil till it wears out and that is determined by oil analysis. I think mcrews has an oil analysis sheet posted in the Q45 forum
