Hey guys, im new here and really like this website. Im ordering the navigation upgrade 7.4 through Navteq for my 2006 M45, I just want to know when i get the DVD, is it just plug and play or i need to do some modifications on the system like voice commands and basically everything else. Also, does anyone know if there is going to be a new upgraded version coming out soon? I would really appreciate if I could get some info before purchasing. Thanks in advance.

I'm new here too, but I hear that the next version should be available next month or so. As far as I know you simply pop in the new disk and you're good to go.

The 7.4 upgrade is a plug & play. Just remove the old DVD, stick in the new and it will automaticaly load. The 2006 reads the maps from the dvd. I think the newer models actually have a hard drive which requires an insxtall. I haven't heard about any updates beyond 7.4.

I just got the 7.4 disc a few weeks ago. It is definitely as easy as replacing the disc in the glove compartment. There is not a newer version at this point and I don't think that a new one is coming out any time soon.

If you want, you can program voice tags for things you choose to store in your address book, but other than that, you don't have to program any voice commands. They're already built-in. It does a fairly good job of "understanding" you, given you don't have an accent any funnier than "dis here suthern boy."

Sorry for the misinformation. The indian woman I spoke with said it was just released last week. I called back today and spoke with a gentelmen named Matthew and he stated that there was no official release date for the 7.5 version. He also stated that they update every 12 to 14 months and that he would put my name on the mail list to be notified when its available.

7.4 is $190 US plus shipping, tax etc. Cost me about $212.00 last year. I can't imagine the new one is any more expensive-we'll see. There will be a bunch of perfectly operating 7.4's available on E-Bay (mine too) after 7.5 comes out. They will go for about 1/2 price of a new one.

Just got this email from NAVTEQ....

Hello David,

Thank you for contacting Infiniti. The 7.5 has been projected to release sometime this month of November. We do not have a specific day but we do expect it any day now.

If you need additional assistance, please send us your feedback by replying to this email or by speaking with one of our agents at the number provided below, Monday through Friday.

Kind regards,

Is the 06 nav a touchscreen display? I recently rented an 09 from Hertz, and I am wondering if I buy an 06, get the new DVD version of the maps, will the GPS be essentially the same as the one in my rental? It was touchscreen (or via the controls on the dash), it announced street names, and it would split screen when approaching a turn. Does this all sound the same as 7.4 on an 06?

thanks!

No, the NAVTEQ cd only updates the map data on the GPS (such as: new road construction, new interstate exits, etc.) and will not actually change the console interface. While the 2006 M45 does not have a touchscreen, it does have all the other features you mentioned that were on the 2009 version.

If you choose to get a 2006 M, good luck on the buying adventure!

Thanks for the info. Yeah - I love the adventure. Trying to decide if I should wait until the release of '11 model to see the prices on the 07-09 come down a bit. I'd like to be under $20k. It's been fun watching - after a long weekend in LA drivin the 09 M35, I am HOOKED. GOTTA have one!!! (I'd kinda like the 45 - I drove one and the sound of that bad boy was SWEET)

Has anyone tried making a backup copy of their DVD for future use? I'm curious if the DVD is able to be backed-up.

apparently we can back up the navigation DVD in case we loose it or scratch it.

I've read on the web and it looks like DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0 will do the job. then we need to use a dual layer DVD disk and burn it with a specific DVD-Rom book-type option.

I'll try to backup my Infiniti navigation v 7.5 that I just receive...

Backup works fine....As stated you need DL disks and burner and a progam like Image burn or NERO to do the trick.
