Right, I am sure you're perfect and have always worn seatbelt, always signaled, never sped and never operated a phone while driving.

let's not turn this into your personal quest for self empowerment over the internet. I am just curious as to what others have experienced

I know... that's what otto asked.

Honestly what do you want from us? Why not ask the people who wrote the bill.. call the number on the ticket or the local PD and ask them.

And wear your seat belt... not only is it safer, and the law...
Its just better. I remember once my mom was being a mom and making sure I always wear my seat belt. I basically told her if anything I want more seatbelt, like a harness... Stock seats do a bad enough job of holding you still with out getting rid of the belt too.

BTW, did you SN used to be loveless?

Holy crap $132. Maybe they screwed something up processing the fine? Go to the court and find out.

Exactly. I can't stand driving without a seatbelt on. It bothers me so much that, yes, I am perfect and always use it. Unless I'm on some horrible rough dirt road that causes it to lock up too much.

yeah I feel awkward if the car is on and I'm not wearing a seatbelt.

I would call the local PD and find out why.

Yeah, I was in NH not too long ago and there are no seat belt laws. Being from California we were kinda amazed and took ours off some what as a novelty.

After that short trip I noticed everyone in our van went back to wearing them all the time. They are not that inconvenient.

I even like when mine locks, other then when I have to reach something. The car just feels better when you are strapped into it.

^^^ LOL.

Seriously though, they just instituted the seatbelt thing here in florida.

I think they said it's like $20, but up to $150 including court costs. I dunno..

Call the court house or whatever number is on the ticket.

Just because it's a law, doesn't make it right. The state doesn't have to threaten me with a $120+ ticket for me to realize that not wearing my seat
belt is dangerous(for me). I wear my seat belt because I want to, not because I have to.

I enjoy my life so I've always worn a seatbelt. I like when it locks in my Miata. It's like I have a harness. Like others have said, either call the number on the ticket or go to the court. Find out if there are any other circumstances that lead to the higher ticket.

Doesn't nessisarily make it right... but it does make it the best thing to do if you don't want to get a ticket.

Besides, read whats around those words and realize that my whole point was that it being the law is definitely not the only reason.

No not really. It does open the door for some potential abuse but that is supposed to be what the courts are their for.

BAC is just how much alcohol is in your blood, not how drunk you are. The guys who write the laws found .08 to be where most people are starting to become a danger, but what if some light weight little girl is obviously drunk but under the limit? Just let her go drive drunk because the number wasn't right?

Actually not wearing your seatbelt isn't just for your own safety. People being ejected out of their seat in a collision and causing other drivers to dodge your fat a** flying at them causes other accidents.

My ticket for not wearing a seat belt was $80. It was total BS though because I always wear a seat belt. It's programmed into me so well, that I'll even put it on when knowing my sole purpose of hopping into the car is to get laid.

You should see this girl I (unfortunately) work with. No license or permit, always speeding/reckless driving, frequent pot user, frequently driving while intoxicated, and never wears a seat belt. I sometimes inform her of how absurdly stupid she is. She says she doesn't wear it cause one of her (long since shot to death) friends once got in a horrendous accident in which she claims he would have died if he had been wearing his seat belt. How in God's name people like this are alive is beyond me. The only thing I can come up with is the Law of Inverse Value

I ALWAYS wear my seat belts, But I am freinds with some one who goes off roading a lot. he once flipped his truck over and it rolled down the hill. He claims had he had a seat belt on he would have been dead, So he never EVER wears one since that.

Question: How do you prove you were wearing your seatbelt?

I mean, If an officer needs to generate revenue couldn't he pull over anyone and claim they weren't wearing their seatbelt. It's the officer's word against your's, and the officer's would is usually accepted.

I know when I was stupid enough not to wear my seat belt, when I got pulled over for speeding I slipped it on quickly. If the officer comes to the window and you are wearing your seatbelt how can the officer still write you a ticket for no seatbelt?

Just hoping there isn't any abuse

Every officer I've ever heard comment on that question has said that they can usually see when you put your seatbelt on after they've stopped you. I'm sure it varies depending on the design (stupid GM on-the-seat shoulder belts are probably easier to hide...and I imagine you could stealthily put on your lap belt if you're in a car with power shoulder belts).

I know guys who hate seatbelts passionately and will do all manner of awkward things to make it appear that they are wearing the belt when they're not (sit on it, pull it across but not buckle it...all of which beg the question...if you're bothering with that, why not just wear the damn thing anyway?)

It is a bit pricey given the offense, but it's surprising that it takes a law to get people to excercise common sense. But what really strikes me odd that there are states that will ticket automobile drivers without seatbelts yet don't require motorcyclists to wear crash helmets, which seems more dangerous. I won't name names but one state that does that begins with the letter PENNSYLVANIA.
