Has anyone upgraded their seats to make them heated? I found a link to this company and I am considering adding heat to the driver and passenger seat but would like to hear from those that have modified the stock seats.

How difficult is it to remove the leather from the seat frame? Does it require any special tools?

you just need snips to cut the hog rings, and then hog ring pliers to reinstall http://www.amazon.com/KD-Tools...P2SAC

I cheated and swapped in the entire seat, computers and switches from a Q45t. Are you planning on using the switches in the kit or trying to wire up OEM switches?

I looked at the website and I sure like the idea of of heated rear seats. Same kit as for the front seat. If you're not familar with a hog ring or how the leather cushion is attached to the seat frame it's pretty easy to pull out the rear seat bottom, flip it over and see how a seat is put together and what you'll be faced with pulling the front seat apart.

I really enjoy my heated seats. Good luck.

Hey I thought of that first but I can't find heated seats around here .

Using OEM heated seats is a better solution because after all its Ebay and OEM lasted this long.

Some day I will have 4 heated seats on a 1993 Q45.

Mike I have some extra heated seat switches that you can have to do the rear seats what would be slick is to take a piece of plastic(or wood to match the front (old center console)) and mount the switches in the rear ashtray. then each person in the back could control thier seat.

Actually I am considering using the hardware that comes with the kit and mount the controller in an inconspicuous place not to bugger up the console or dash.

Does anyone have a picture of the heated seat controls that are OEM in the Q. I would like to see them at least to get an idea on the factory location.

Mike, good idea about pulling out the rear seat bottom as this project will be my first pulling the leather off.

So this project would work better by pulling the seat out of the car the install the heat pad versus trying to do it in the car?

Bad News: The seat has to come out to remove the individual cushions.Good news: After removing the front and rear trim from below the seat (phillips screws) it's only 4 bolts and 1 electrical connection and the seat is out.

About 10 minutes for this old man with help from the daughter (got to slip her a $20 bill) when it comes time to pull the seat out.

Mike:

How do you remove the back seat to see how the hog clips attach to the leather?

I think you have to remove the rear seat belts to completely remove the rear seat.

Pull both black tabs at the base of the bottom cushion at the same time and lift. It will pull right out.

You'll need to unbolt seat belts to remove the seat back, not the seat bottom.

I did take a look at my spare seat back that's been removed from the seat frame and it's a 2 piece assembly- A semi-stiff foam frame and a padded leather cover. The heating element you're installing will easily slide between the two pieces.

I was just dreaming out loud but it would be a great mod for someone in a cold weather state who uses the back seat.

The problem I'm having right now is picture hosting since Q45.org hosting has gone away along with every pic I ever posted on this forum. I'll take a pic and email it to you. I was pretty comfortable at Q45.org but need to be retrained on how to use a different picture hosting site.

Thanks Paul for hosting these pics for me. I'm going to see if I can work my way through starting up a Picasa gmail account soon so I can start posting pics again.

The reason I wanted to show these is because I don't think you can seperate the leather from the foam backing without completely ruining both pieces. The 3 ribs of the leather cushion are imbedded into the foam seat base. The pics are of my spare 94 seat back, the seat bottom and the 90-93 cushions are a similar design. In the pics I've pulled back the leather pad about as far as it will go without doing permanent damage to the seat.

I think what this means is that the full size heating element will not fit between the seat cushion and foam frame. Unless you can puchase elements that are about 3" wide and wire them together I don't think it's going to work.

This heated seat thing is on my to-do list as well. Since the company that 96'er posted is no longer in buisness I am looking for some sugestions from people. Normally I would go with 1994-2001 Q45 seat heaters but I figure if I am going to do this I am going all out, Heated/Massaged seats (just like the Nissan President).

Sadly I am not even sure where to look for the massage buttons in English, Japanese buttons would be weird (Ricey) (I am talking about the Nissan President switches.

I found this site bad part is they only make them for domestic cars, yet they list almost all the brands. http://www.pfyc.com/pc/GN2009/....html and http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/seatheatac.html
