Infiniti J30 production quantities (sales) by year

Found this info in the "Standard Catalog of Imported Cars".

1993 - 21498
1994 - 22777
1995 - 17899
1996 - 7564
1997 - 4594

For most years that the Q45 and J30 were both sold in the U.S., The J30 outsold the Q45.

It's easy to see why they quite making the J and why you don't see many 96 and 97s.

-- Ouch. Have to take it take it either way though, because you sure can dish it out. I feel you though, just last night, my VP used 'dominate' when he meant 'dominant', and it was on a slide! I seriously have issues with being told what to do by someone with sub par usage and grammar, but I somehow refrained myself from correcting his error. Biting my tongue was tough, but not having made a fool of my superior probably helped my career, albeit passively.

-- Seriously though, those #s are interesting. I was just thinking about how few 96 & 97s you see on here or elsewhere. Thanx OP.

My 97' must be one of the last made, after they ran out of anti-lock brake parts. Of all the info I can find, anti-lock brakes were standard, but mine does not have it.

Maybe thats why they cut the price of the 97 models? I believe the best J30 ever made was probably the 1994 J30T.

Okay,

So I think I may have upset Scott with my above post. It was just a joke and I wouldn't have posted it if I hadn't seen where he'd done the same to others. That said, I apologize.

Scott met 200,000 miles at 99.8 mph, replaced an injector and topped 1,000 posts and has left the building, or is now at least taking a very well-deserved break?

It takes much more than that to upset me. I've learned to be able to take it as much as I dish it out. No apology needed.

Just becuase I don't post all the time doesn't mean that I am not here.

Besides, this board has been SLOW the last week or so.

I frequent 5 forums along with trying to run my own business and have a baby on the way. Life is full for me. (Come on hurricanes.)

Where ever this huricane hits, I'll be there soon after with my stump grinder so y'all will probably see me on here even less.

On a side note, my Durango now out pulls my truck even tho the truck has 100 ci (7.5L vs. 5.9L) MORE than the Durango. I just got the rear gears swapped from 3.55:1 to 4.56:1, had a leaf spring added, and have a rebuilt tranny with beefy guts and a shift kit. It now barks 2nd HARD. It's a towing machine and it sure is nice to be back in a vehicle with A/C.

This board is usually pretty slow and VERY slow without your input, wit and observations, but that's a good sign too that we all have lives apart from the forum.

What with having a job/working late again and with my J30 now running like it oughtta, the forum is an easy way of giving back or at least helping others take their's apart!

And then there's this to read about: http://www.plasmaboyracing.com/reviews.php Talk about pullin'! Check out some of those Datsun 1/8 mile times.

Can some one please give some hint on why it dropped on 95 and then took a big slump in 96 97.
What is the difference....any best kept secrets ?

I'd say it was a combination of many factors; J30s were comparitively expensive to make and buy new, were expensive to maintain after the warranty period expired, didn't exactly fit the needs/body size of many people, the styling didn't appeal to everyone, they aren't great on gas, they are rear-wheel drive. And word probably got out/they may have announced that the model would be discontinued in late '95 or '96. The later years don't have the HICAS system either, but that could also be just one less thing that can eventually fail.

Infiniti wasn't nearly as popular and as well known then as it is now and many of their models later earned the reputation of being a good used car value, at bargin prices on the used car market.

I'd like to know the mechanical details of why a timing belt change is less expensive on the later year engines and can theose of earlier years be updated?

Full size sedan with NO truck room, NO rear seat head room, NO rear seat leg room, and TERRIBLE gas mileage to name a few.

The Lexus GS was tearing up the J's sales too.

How would they have made it bigger? By reducing the size of the fuel tank? If anything had to be sacrificed, I'm glad it was trunk space.

By not designing a car with the tank between the seat and trunk?

(Like every one else does and does just fine too.)

But then it would be more like every other car, and probably longer, wider, higher in the rear and heavier too, or front wheel drive and not as crash-worthy.

Location-wise, I like the MR2 tank location, until you need to work on it.

It's the hard front seats and limited head room that miss the mark for me.

I'm 5' 11", 195 on a good day with shoe size about 10 1/2. I ONCE gave my boss a lift (he asked for it) in my J30. He's about 6' 5" and 340 lbs, and has ridden in smaller cars, but...

And I don't know if he could fit behind the wheel to actually drive one.

The turd never moves it back when he gets out either. LMAO
