Ok so I have a vg30de out of a 94 j30 in my 240 now, it has starting smoking and leaking oil headgasket could be gone. I was planing on putting a vg30det motor in it but am having to much trouble with the wiring so I have decided to take a vg30dett block that has been balanced to rev to 8500+ and put the de head on it and then use the det exhaust manifolds to turbo it. I have just read that the detts and de's have the oval exahaust ports where the det's have round or vise versa. So will the det's exhaust manifolds work? I have heard of dett guys using them when they get to high hp numbers to convert to one turbo, didn't know if this is true or if machining would be nessecary.

Providing all the above fit together mechanically I need to know a good system to tune my j30 ecu, or maybe a place that does good chip tunes.

Feel free to ad pointers to things not mentioned. Thank you very much for your imput and advice.

also going back to another post I seen: what are the differences in the heads eg will they flow simalar?

I don't believe you will be able to cross the manifolds like that. The DET ports are indeed round and I just don't think it would seal or at least flow very well on an oval port head. If you have the DET already you can just put the DET heads on the DETT block and use the DET manifolds (both intake and exhaust as I believe the intake head ports are larger).

Wiring wise though... you could just stick with the DET and put all of the J30's VG sensor and such on it then just tune accordingly. The only difference in the ECU's is the fuel and ignition maps really. For tuning though, I recommend the Nistune. Its probably the best tuning tool for Nissan's at the moment.

First off thank you for your input. I see one big problem using the det heads in that if I use them I will have to use the det wiring wich seems to be alot different than the j30's, also I don't have an ecu for the det though I have the wiring harness for it.

I do understand what you are saying about the exhaust port issue though.

What all is on the DET heads that are different from the DE? If its stuff like the VTC solenoids and such just swap the DE stuff to the DET heads and use the DE ecu and wiring and, with a proper tune, you shouldn't have any issues.

Why not pick up some DETT heads and be done with it? Alternately if you have the lower compression DETT pistons in there already you can use std VG30DE heads....just a thought

Well basically the reason for not using the dett heads is because I think the de heads are basically the same.

For the DET heads there is a lot of things different, one big thing is the fuel injectors in that they don't make aftermarket one for it. Also location of most sensors are completley different but swapping them MAY still work but I will have to lengthen and shorten the j's wiring harness. I will look into that next time I'm at the shop but until then keep the ideas comming. ultimitly I want a single turbo VG to replace the n/a I have now.

Thanks
