Hi guys,

I've been browsing around this forum for a while now... Posting here and there...But finally I have the excuse to become more active.

Here are some pics of the 300zx I just bought. It's a 93 TT model with 50k miles...

As you can see, it is bone stock... And as much as I can tell, as good as new...

Hope you like it! For now, I want to sleep in it... :P

More better photos to follow... Stay tuned...

So, after driving it for 300 miles or so were are the first impressions...

From bad to good:- brakes - what brakes?! Yes, they are that bad... Too much pedal travel without much effect... When braking as hard as I could, could not manage to lock any wheel... Not good... First cause already popped on the dash board... Brake light when turning right... Level should be low...- Suspension - it must be tired... it allows too much body movement over depressions and so on... Not very confidence inspiring...- consumption - well, nothing new here... just hopped for something somewhat better... stock car... drove it for 200 miles in highway with cruise control locked to 88 (140Km/h) and still yield 17 miles / gallon (13.75L/100Km)...- comfort - great interior... every thing works perfectly (except the radio that is not hocked to the antenna so no reception)... If it wasn't for the wheels to need calibration... I drove 200 miles sitting on a vibrator... from 90 up, it was unbearable... At least that is already sorted...- engine - what a engine... it feels like a locomotive... Still a little bit muted (it is all stock) but very nice pull all the way to 7.000... And from 4.000 onwards, the hell breaks loose...

So, all in all, very happy with the car... Some obvious niggles that must be tackled but nothing too serious for a 15 years old car... I'm going to keep it until my wheels fell off...

By the way, since the manual is in Germain (shissa), where do I turn on the front fog lights!? Or just point me to a english owner manual...

Thanks so much... Hope you enjoyed the reading... If someone have some hints for me, let it roll...

Cheers,Vítor

the fog light switch is on the left column. its the third button down. right above the brightness adjust and below cruise control

nice Z, I like the color! By "sitting on a vibrator" do you mean you literally felt like it was under you? or the steering wheel was shaking? A wheel balance/alignment might take care of steering wheel shake- along with tie rod bushings if they are worn. If you feel the vibration under you it might be the driveshaft in which case a wheel calibration probably wont do the trick

sorry- I just reread your post and realized you said you got that sorted out already. What was the problem?

Regarding the fog light, I tried that switch but to no effect... Something might be disconnected or the lamps are bad... Need to check that further...

Regarding the car vibrating, both calibration and alignment were off... Mainly calibration...

Also the tires aren't as round as they should be because the car sited for couple of months in a garage without moving...

I did a laser alignment and wheel calibration and now it is almost perfect... The tires might get better with the usage or eventually they will be replaced...

I was also worried about the drive shaft but apparently that's ok...

Thanks!

Ok then...So now that I have the zed for a couple of weeks I'm now having a better feeling of what I bought...Remember my list from bad to good on this thread?Well, the brakes improved a little bit with a flush of the system with DOT 5.1 oil.Still, this is clearly a upgrade in the list. The suspension was wobbly. Well, more than that. It is really a broken shock in the right rear corner. There is also the noise coming from the clutch/transmission that goes away when I press the clutch... And now, a hammering noise from the engine when cold... At idle it is barely audible but around 2 - 2.5k it is really bad... Tomorrow it goes to the shop... Fingers crossed, hope it is nothing too serious.

But before that, time for a couple of pics snapped today with a friend of mine that also just bought a nice "toy"....

Enjoy!

Cheers,Vítor

Yes, everything stock... I don't like the rear red lights... But I'm not going to touch the looks of the car for the time being...

Other priorities at the moment...

Thanks for the feedback!

Even bigger OUCH when you see that translates roughly into a years salary of a well paid man over here... Average is more like 15k...

Enjoy your money wiselly... :P

Regardless, it is worth it... Really great car... Shame it costs me $60 per 100 miles to run on gas alone... I have to stop with this maths otherwise I'll just go nuts...

2+0 are rare around here. I would say that all 2+0 are imported and most from the US...

Ok... New update regarding the noises...

Apparently the metallic noise when cold comes from the hydraulic lifters... Nothing serious so I've been told. What do you think? What would be your next step? Clean up the lifters? Oil change and new filter to help build up the pressure quicker? New oem lifters? Solid lifters?

The clutch noise... It seams to be the coming from the throw-out bearing... Again, nothing serious so I've been told...

So, should I let it be like this until the noises become more persistent? Would I be risking a more catastrophic failure?

Thanks for your input!

Totally new to this... Thanks.

Ok, sorry for posting without much searching before...

It seams that this is a common issue... And I've just found this nice tutorial of how to get it fixed:http://www.twinturbo.net/net/v...17346

Still, nothing on the throw-out bearing... So any help on this item is still welcome!

Thanks for your time folks!Regards,Vítor

Hi guys,

some updates after a 1st year of ownership.

Some photos after this morning Sun (the weather is getting really good around here):ItInterior - thinking about renewing it but it will wait a whileSame it...Power house Best seat in the house... At least according to my daughter. Details on the new IAV and fuel lines...

What changed since new? Well, a lot (although it doesn't show):a blown shock was replacedApexi cone intakeIn a quest to solve a power cut, the PTU, the fuel dampener and pressure regulator and spark plugs were replaced. In the end, it was the TPS (it was replaced as well).New Z1 shortshifter (after a ebay one that was rubish)New front 6'' speakers+twitters from Infinity

And that is it so far. To bring it to sort of new mechanically, I still have to solve a vibration at speed (probably the trans shaft) and the brakes, oh the brakes... Those are hopeless... Need a complete overhault on that department.

Very happy with the car.

I bought/ordered my new Z in 1990 and have kept it this long because it's a pleasure to drive. Enjoy your new ride. There's so many mods you can do to customize her.

Enjoy

"Fuel Line Kit"+"Replacement IAA Valve Feed Pipe"

That's probably the only shop that has anything that is worth it this side of the lake and still, a very limited offer. It's a shame really that I have to order everything from the states implying high transport and customs costs.

Hi guys,

just a quick update on current status...

A while back I had to do something about the braking. It was appalling.Started with the master cylinder rebuild kit and bracing.

That fixed a oil leak and improved a lot the brake pedal feeling.

However, when braking (not even too hard) the steering continue to vibrate a lot...

Ordered the EBC replacement front disks (same dimensions as original) and again overall feeling improved but the vibration was again there...

So after talking to a z32 expert, he pointed out that the car bushing is probably destroyed by now and that is probably what is causing the vibrations.

So, the car is now at the shop for a major overhaul.

Part list is:120k timing kit (CPZ) - don't know for sure then last timing belt was replaced so although the car only reads 65k miles, I went for the most complete kit.JWC VTC harder springs (CPZ) - trying to eliminate the annoying VTC noise (currently I can only hear it when cold)CRANKSHAFT seal (CPZ) - believe this is not part of the 120k kit and since we will be near by...Unorthodox driving pulley and overdrive water pump pulley (CPZ) - with all the money spent, couldn't resist chasing after a couple more ponies Energy Suspension master kit (CPZ) - lets see if the vibration goes away (and if the car overall feeling gets more precise)aluminum drive shaft (Shaftmasters) + OEM transmission seal (CPZ) - current one is off balance (or the bearing is out) causing another annoying vibration.OEM motor mounts + NISMO transmission mount (CPZ) - current ones are just old...Cooling fan clutch (CPZ) - current one is about ceased making the fan going loud even with the car cold.

So far this is it... Should be picking the car up in the next couple of weeks...

Hoping all this effort pays off because although I love the car, specially the vibrations spoil the experience.

I'll let you know once I get it back!
