Arnt you the same kid who only had 2K to spend for the car, with nothing left over for routine maintenance/restoration?

Dreaming is fine, but dont you have collision damage to hood, fender, bumper, etc that you are posting about needing parts for?

What about chain guides so you dont lose your entire investment?

Geez, gotta have them rims though, huh??

I see a worn mid 90's civic or accord in your near future with those priorities!!!

No way you buy wheels when your car isn't even ready for it.

This is a perfect example of what I was saying in another thread about how strange it is that people on extremely tight budgets putting big shiny wheels on their cars, even though they have no leftover to fix collision damage and perform routine/preventative maintenance.

This dude just got his wrinkled old Q less than 1 week ago....besides needing collision repair, who knows what mechanical wise including guides....he is already focused on dubs......Has anyone else noticed how many of the recent{last year or so} new Q owners come here, ask a bunch of questions.....then disappear and presumably dump their new toy when the economics of it all become reality?

This is why it is almost foolish to even think of buying a 12-18 year old Q without really knowing its entire history...so many have exchanged hands many times due to the reality of costs, and therefor are neglected, old tired cars disguised by shiny paint and wheels

Yep, addressing all the wrong things.

What can he not understand about timing chain guides?

Look, we're into real world performance here, which includes reliability and safety. Our cars tend to be runners, not poseurs. If you want to live in the la la cartoon world, go to the Very Impaired Performance Forum where teenies can satisfy their cartoon fantasies.

To anser your question, you did not post size, hubcentricity, weight, offset nor strength data. How can we tell? It's not appearance but function which is most important.

unknown007 - The chain guides are important. If you don't take care of the issue, you should plan on starting threads looking to buy engines. You're going to need it. If you do trash your current engine, you're pissing all of your money away buying body parts.

And. Those wheels look like crap. Seriously. Go with BBS or a basketweave pattern. Or at least an 8-spoke wheel.

If you'll ignore the bickering going on in the thread, you'll see that the question was raised twice about those guides.

I was lucky enough to last a year before changing them. Can't say the same for thou. Valve covers are good? If they're not in need of resealing now, it could be coming up soon. I'd like to say "F" the bodyshop at the moment if the guides need to be done. How many miles are on your Q again?

But then again, what the hell do I know? I've only just been through the experience.

Depends on who does them. Cheapest I've heard the complete job go for is $1200. I paid $1400 because I had my valve covers resealed and some hoses inspected and replaced.

Boy do you got alot to learn! NOBODY does any maintenance to a car they are selling other than emergency repairs to allow it to roll and possibly pass a state inspection. The fact that they never bothered to open their wallet to repair all the body damage should be your first CLUE.

Why dont you list what "maintenance" was done, since you say you have "A RECEIPT"....another hint.....you should have A BIG FAT STACK of receipts if car was well maintained, covering routine/preventative fluids and filters exchanges, parts replacements, etc

If you really are sharp, do your homework here, you will quickly learn intakes and exhausts are not cost effective on the Q, and chainguides are a terminal problem if not attended to{something a SMART person would have gathered, and priced out BEFORE buying the hooptie}

True.

From what I've seen though, the chain guide issue isn't really discussed outside of NICO. I tried explaining it to someone and they looked at me like I had two heads. Mind you, he was a "mechanic".

NICO is a valuable asset to the Q owner. If I cared more, I'd print up business cards with the NICO logo and URL and hand them out to Q owners or leave them under the wiper.

ok here's what happened.his son was driving this car before he moved to san fransisco(cant spell it).his son was at a grave yard and i guess they closed so he had to run through the fence to get out.thats how the fender, hood, and driver side mirror got damaged.the car sounds great smells new and handles great.heres what was done at that body shop.

(summary)PLC Fuel Pump Modulator $538.95 Gasoline $14.12JAP Electric Fuel Pump $474.90PLC Fuel Filter $22.16PLC Remove & Replace Fuel Filter $57.00JAP Remove & Replace Fuel Pump $171.00PLC Check And Advise (Diagnostics) $228.00

(recipt)Parts-Garage $900.00Labor $456.00Parts-Garage $136.00Non-Taxable $14.12Total $1591.60

the reason why i didnt get all the recipets is because like i said his son drove it and he moved to san francisco.this weekend hopefully me and my dad are going to put in a new oil filter and drain the old one.new air filter, new bulbs, check brakes, etc.it has new tires and the reason why he sold it for his son was because in the city theres no room to park a car really especially when going to college over there.i maybe getting the fender and mirror tomorrow.im getting my tags done and then driving it friday then saturday doing what i said me and my dad will.remember this though any car you buy used you'll spend money on repairing.

This new owner actually found Nico before he jumped in and bought the car...many people warned him of the pitfalls, obviously he didnt do enough reading here before buying the Q if he is still asking about costs to do chain guides,intakes/exhausts, etc....it will come back to bite him since he is obviously on a tight budget.....wrong car for someone in his current financial status and probobly will end up being a very expensive lesson when he dumps it a few months down the road when he figures out what he got himself into. Another example of people confusing price of car with true cost to own.

Haitian Peon, the VIP forums is calling you with chrome mirror nacelles and 7 working injectors.

Look, restore your car first. otherwise you will just have a doorstop. Lipstick on a pig is still a pig. All longtime owners know that.
Ouch...

Does anyone else see a problem here? Forget about MAINTENANCE, let's talk about ABUSE.

I thought the same thing why not call for help instead of smashing through the gate.

What inocent person smashes through a gate with a Q45 or for that matter even another car?

True.

Then again, if it was really dark, and I was freaked out, I'd just bite the bullet at the body shop. Or if there were clowns present.

I don't like clowns.

Did you ever stop just for a second and wonder if the entire "graveyard" story was completely made up? A lie? I find it hard to understand why a young kid would be in a boneyard at 2am. Even if true, you dont smash up your car{in reality his parents car} to get out, unless it is a P.O.S. With the popularity of mobile phones, one with any brains would have just called for help......Good luck, I have a feeling you are going to need it!

P.S.where can i possibly buy new chain guides, metal ones?

I felt that story was kind of crazy also. Back to helpful info, I don't know where you can purchase it. I'm quite sure you can call your local Infiniti dealer and price it or you can call Justin (some say Joe but Justin always help me) at http://www.everythinginfiniti.com 1-888-216-5328 and price them. Also Haitian King purchased some awhile back so he would know more than I. Good luck. Oh, those rims are ugly. I love chrome wheels but they look like hubcaps.
