First of all, I would remove the Bose sub if you are not using it (which you shouldn't be if you have 2 12" subs, get that P.O.S. out of there). That will allow more sound to pass through from the trunk to the cabin. Secondly, Dynamat alone will not fix the rattling. I used dynamat to dampen all of the components on top of steel parcel shelf, but the carpeted panel vibrates up and down on its own. I used some pieces of plastic from my work to jam them between the rear window and the carpeted panel. They were like 3/4" square by 2" long. I used 4 of them and like I said, wedge them between the panel and the base of the rear window. That's how I did it. At the time I figured it was temporary, but after Dynamating I had to put them back in. The plastic pieces make the biggest difference. Dynamating is expensive and labor intensive. I bought Dynamat because I needed it that day. Give yourself a few days to get it ordered through the internet and buy some of the less expensive alternatives...

i would actually use some commericial insulation, i took out the stock sub on my 01 I30 and i used soem generic insulation and no more rattling. I have a 12 jl w6v2 fully powered so it can def push some air, and rattle some trunks. the insulation will fill the gaps between your rear deck and the panel better than dynomat.

I agree that filling the gap would do a better job than deadening the metal. Most of the noise from the rear deck comes from the carpeted panel vibrating up and down.

take a look here:

most of the rattling in the rear comes from the panel that the Bose sub is bolted to, the seatbelt housings, the trunk, and the pillar plastics next to the rear window.

Use Peel-N-Seal. You can purchase it from Lowes or Home Depot. It's $14.97 for a 6"X25' roll....or u can purchase a 36" X 33.5' roll for around $90 at your local roofing supplier!
