2007 G 35 brake job finished!

Started about 10am - had one rotor left at 12:30 went to OB appointment with wife, shopped at the mall. Came home and finished. Took about 2 hours to swap all pads and rotors. The G is a piece of cake to work on I LOVE THIS CAR!

I'll do a walk through for anyone considering doing a brake job

1> loosen all the lug nuts 21mm2> Put the car on Jacks and Jack stands... if you don't have enough jacks use jack stands and wood blocks. Or you can just do one wheel at a time.Never just use jacks its not safe.3> Remove the tires and sit them out of the way. Put some cardboard or newspaper under the rotors. Spray down everything with brake parts cleaner.4> Remove the 14mm bolts on the back of the caliper that that hold it to the mounting plate. The rear calipers bottom bolt will not clear the trailing link until you remove the caliper mounting plate.5> Suspend the caliper with wire coat hangers from the coil springs. never let the caliper hang by the brake line.6> Remove the bolts that hold the mounting plate for the calipers to the spindle. The front bolts are 22 mm the rear are 19 mm.7> Remove the old rotors, you may have to pound on them cause they will rust to the hub. Mine were rusted to the hub in PHOENIX. A couple hits from the dead blow hammer and they slid right off.8> Install the new rotors9> Install the new caliper mounting plates. Remember to leave the bottom bolt out on the rears so you can get the bottom bolt for the caliper started.10> Install your new brake pads. I wipe a little white lithium grease on the back of the pads. This is optional and possibly contriversal but I don't like squeally brakes. Be very very careful to not get any grease on the rotors or your pads will never bed.11> Use a D clamp to compress the calipers so they will fit over the new pads. 12> Install the calipers, Once all the calipers are installed pump the brake pedal a few times to build up the pressure.13> Install the tires, put on the lug nuts as tight as you can with the car on jacks.14> take the car off the jacks and jack stands15> Check your brake fluid level. My brake fluid looks brand new?16> Torque your lug nuts17> Break in the brakes... the way I do it.3-4 trips from 20 mph - 5 mph3-4 trips from 40 mph - 20 mph3-4 trips from 60 mph - 20 mph

Use steady light pressure to start use moderate pressure in the end.

Drive carefully for the next 100-200 miles using light - moderate brake pressure for every stop. Try to avoid holding the pedal down at lights ect.

G nice job! I know you race quite a bit is that the reason for the new brakes or are the factory ones faulty/worn?? Just wondering since you have a 2007.

Don't get me wrong I think the new brakes are pimp. I'm just asking from the cost/maint point of view as a future owner.

Yeah I have a 07 with 26k miles on it.

The front brakes got hot enough to glaze the rotors. That forced the rear brakes to take over most of the braking. So the rear brakes just wore out.

My cost for the new brakes was $330. If they last a year I'll be very happy. The dealership wanted $530 just to turn my old rotors and replace my pads with factory semi metallic. So I saved $200 doing it myself.

The drilled rotors should cool faster and the ceramic/kelvar pads should have a higher heat range before they start to transfer pad material to rotor. So hopefully these brakes survive a trip to the track.

I'm going again in May so that should be the test!

Nice write up, always thought the G sedan brakes were a bit flimsy.

The front brakes are nice. Dual piston calipers. Decent sized pads and rotors. The rear brakes are a joke... I bet they are the same size as a base sentra.

I would love to find a way to put the front brakes calipers and pads on the rear. the rotors are close enough to the same size so there is room for larger pads.

Nice work Jeff! The rotors look HOT on the G... Now I'm going to have to go out and do some serious power stops to wear down my brakes to that I can justify buying these! Love the look and can't wait to see in person. Keep us posted on how they perform.

Thanks man, one thing I noticed driving to work is the brakes seem to grab a lot earlier? Light pressure stops the car just fine.

When do you think you'll be home? I can help you reinstall the spoiler if you want too. I can leave work as early as 3:30 that would put me out to your place about 4:30?

Very nice and easy write up...brakes are easy to do for anybody specially with replacing a rotor....i think most individuals don't really realize how easy it is.

I do brake jobs throughout the spring/summer/fall for people and charge something like 35-45 bucks a wheel (not including pads, that's just labor). Easy way to make a couple hundred bucks on a weekend for only an hour worth of work on each car.

I love working on cars and sometimes trade work for other things. I did a radiator on a girls Neon in trade for her watching my son for a 10 days last summer while my wife was in Domonica (the island not the country).

And I'm happy to help people. but I never do it for money. When you do a brake job if the water pump fails within 2 week they will usually try to blame you for that cause you were the last person to work on the car. If you don't take any money its easy to offer them a refund.

Quick question,

How do I adjust my hand break? Even if I pull it up as hard as I can my wheels will not lock up... it seems rather weak.

If your 04 is like my 07.

Remove the black rubber cap in the center of the rear disc between the bolts. Use a screw driver to move the adjustment wheel.

You shouldn't have to take the wheels off to do it.

Some brakes are self adjusting and you can just drive in reverse 15 mph and slam on the brakes a few times and they will adjust.

Why did you chose cross drilled and slotted? They wear out your pads faster and cause more break dust!! Bad choice for a daily driver. They look cooler I guess if you were going for more of a look than what will work best.

Since he does track the car, the rotors are a perfect choice.
