DO NOT GO TO JIFFY LUBE!!!- they did not install my drain plug properly which caused it to come off while I was driving. <- for me trusting JIFFY LUBE

I have a 2007 350z that lost most of its oil while driving(good thing i was running synthetic-minimized the damage) dealer checked the car out said no bad codes-so hopefully everything is fine

added-Nov 16 got an oil change

just wanted to post pics of my storyNov 23 after an hour drive, car started smoking while on the freeway -made it home

turned off car to see all this oil underneath my car being pulled from my parking spotNov 25 brought car to dealer by tow truck

This is why I change my own oil on all of my vehicles.

Jiffy Lube = fail. It never fails to amaze me how they seem to find an endless supply of employees who dont know thier a$s from a hole in the ground.

Do your own oil changes. Not only will it save you money, you won't have to worry about something like that happening. I've heard many horror stories about those guys!!

Not as bad as firestone, a few years ago i brought my lancer there to have them do something with my passenger side rear wheel, and they told me that everything was completely fine. 2 Blocks after leaving my wheel cylinder exploded. Exploded. The only shop that hasnt royally fisted me was Midas, surprisingly.

Do your own oil changes, I dont trust anyone with my cars, I personally have never had a shop mess up one of my cars, though it helps that my car has never been in a shop, unless Im the one working on it. I am a mechanic for Tires Plus, oddly enough, it only reinforces my fear of leaving my car with someone else, one of our lube techs is actually getting fired tomorrow for incompetence, he should not be allowed under the hood of a car. If you havnt gone back to jiffy lube yet, do that, you may not have engine codes, but even 1 minute without lubrication can cause permanent engine damage, and you may not notice it for months.

JiffyLube is like a pyramid scheme, most people know they're bad news but they still get some of the people some of the time and manage to stay in business that way.

To the original poster: Did you get on the phone w/ their corporate office yet? And why don't you take your car to the dealer for oil changes? They're not expensive for that (just everything else).

Idk your situation or anything but why would you take a nice car like a 350z to a cheap oil change place like that? Especially with the reputation they have....

That's a good name.I used to call them "oil change monkeys" but that wasn't very fair to the monkeys.

There's a place I used to go to during winter or when I didn't have time to change my oil myself (I think it's a Q-lube). The last couple times I went they underfilled the car (only by about 3/8 quart, so nothing disastrous). Last time I even corrected them and the "technician" just looked at me for a couple seconds and went back to what he was doing. Freaking idiots. One of the younger kids asked me what year my Camry was one time.

I hate not changing my own oil, but I hate crawling under the car in sub-30-degree temperatures even more.

WINTER IS TO BLAME FOR IT ALL!

Yeah, synthetic or not, the cylinder walls could have been scored because of heat. Not something I want to happen to a vehicle I'm going to keep for a few years.

I would be very concerned about something like this....Something of this nature can definetely take some hours of lifetime from your engine.

I know this sounds bad....but depending on how long the car ran without oil....I'd think about maybe selling that 350Z.

If it started to leak, then you shut it off, and then all the oil poured out, maybe not. But if you were running for a minute or two unlubricated, then I'd be trying to sell that car.

honestly...some dealerships have jackasses like that too.

I prefer to change it myself.

I need to get a good jack and some more stands...my floor jack took a dump on me...don't must feel like trying to jack the car up while it slowing creeps down.

I know a few guys that work at quick lube style shops. I wouldn't want them working on car. But that stuff does happen quite often, even at dealerships. Mechanics just get in a rush and don't check over their work. I always like to double check the bolts at work, i don't feel right if i don't.

Let me know once you read this message I will delete lol. Go drain the oil in a new container. Wear gloves which is a must just in case . Drive the car close to your house till something goes, pour oil back in. How many miles on the car? I'd be demanding a new car or a signed commitment to the dealer for a full engine swap plus rental cost for when the engine goes. BUT if they keep doing this then they may go brankrupt and it would blow as soon as it happens lol.I'd go make a problem Because no doubt that the engine has lost life.
